View Full Version : Administrative and Maintenance Tools - Zoints Forumban - Ban members from a single forum

Zoints
10-02-2006, 10:00 PM
This modification allows staff to ban users from a single forum for a specified time period. Once banned, the user is automatically notified via private message. When the time period is up, the user is automatically unbanned from the forum and sent a PM notifying them of this fact.

A simple "forumban user" link is added to the user options in the admincp.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2006/10/7.png.

And there you are presented with the forumban system. From that point, it's all automated :cool:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

And in vbulletin options > Zoints forumban options:

Official support for this modification will be at http://network.zoints.com in this specific forum (http://network.zoints.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58).

Q. I have a ton of moderators I want to allow to use the automated forumban. Is there a query I can run to do this automatically?

A.
UPDATE tableprefixmoderator set canforumban = 1

Q. How is this different from using access mask permissions?

A. This is an automated system. It automatically messages the person upon banning, automatically releases them at a time you specify, and automatically PM's them when they are released.

Is this usergroup controlled? Can I allow mods of forums to ban users themselves? Great hack. The Zoints factory is on full scale production. I'm thinking I'll join soon!

Oops, I totally forgot to upload screenshots of the admincp > vBulletin options > Zoints forumban options. I'll do that now, please recheck the first post (which should answer your questions).

Great hack. The Zoints factory is on full scale production. I'm thinking I'll join soon!

Yes *installed*. Thank you very much. :)

I wish me such a hack to ban users from a thread too. Like the hack for 3.5.4, but much better. Usable optionally for thread starter, moderators, super moderators, admins and with comments why the user is banned. The banned user should know who banned the user, so the banned user can step into contact with the user which banned the user.

IMHO it's more diplomatically.

Installed and works like a charm :D

One thing I would love to see is a banlist like the one on LWS - maybe minus the coloured bannings (eg a banned members row in the table is blue). All banlists I have installed don't work too well :(

Thanks!

Definitely one of my favorite mods from the Zoints crew. My second favorite, in fact.

This removed the need for about 50 "banned from XXXX" usergroups, so on behalf of my aching server, I thank you.

so does this work even if we're not using zoints?

And does it limit a mod to only banning a user in a forum of which they are a moderator? I've been looking for such a mod for a long time. (So like admins can ban anyone, globally or per forum, and moderators can only ban users in the forums that they moderate)

Yes and yes.

You can set mod forumban permissions on a forum by forum basis, so a moderator may be able to ban users from one forum, and not from another. Supermods and admins can ban from all.

AHHHH, where can I see who has been banned using this feature that is installed on my site?

After you ban the first person, it will be listed above the forum ban options on admincp > users > forumban user

Can this feature also allow us to put the IP on ban also. I assume right now this is driven off of user name only? What is to stop them to come back and get back in the forum with another user name???

It doesn't support that, sorry.

I didn't find phrases ? How can I translate language to our language ?

Search the phrase variables for: forumban_

RELEASE DATE makes no sense to me. Mine say a MIN ago, but were banned DAYS ago. Can enyone explain?

Release date is when the person is set to have the forumban automatically expire.

I need that....

You have been banned from {forum}!

and

Dear {user},

You have been banned from the following forum:
{forum}

Release: {release}
Reason:
{reason}

-{admin}

And of course unbanned message,because users only see this messages in his/her PM.Many forum use more than 3-4 language,and nobody knows english %100

Thanks

Note: Plugin translated no problem,my main problem in above.

Zoints
10-20-2006, 07:12 AM
Ah, I see :)

Search for those in the .xml file and edit them there as desired :)

Example:

Line 284 <defaultvalue>You have been forumbanned from {forum}!</defaultvalue>

Bulent Tekcan

Still confused...

I need phrases...If user use EN language this message must be EN,if user use FR language this message must be FR,or TR or whatever.

Maybe you put a phrarses in XML file.

Like that maybe...

$vbphrase[zointsforum_ban_pmtitle]
$vbphrase[zointsforum_ban_pmmessage]
$vbphrase[zointsforum_unban_pmtitle]
$vbphrase[zointsforum_unban_pmmessage]

I think now very clear :) it is only need 4 phrases.

Thanks

Can this mod be extended with an option that you can ban the user from the thread for x posts? This would be really handy.

So let's say I give him a 20 posts ban means that he can't enter this forum before he has made 20 posts in other forums.

could you do somthing like this for threads too? Would be great to first ban them from a thread, then maybe if neccesary that certain forum.. and if that does not help: the whole forum.

And add someting allowing moderators to ban from the thread, not having to go all the way into modCP or adminCP.

Thanks! looks great!

Are you going to add a link in the postbit or something, allowing this moderating to be alot easier?

You could use something like this if you can find yourself a suitable button image:

<if condition="can_moderate()"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/forumban.png" onmouseover="this.style.cursor='hand';" onClick="window.open('modcp/forumban.php?do=ban&userid=$post[userid]&forumid=$forum[forumid]','ban','width=700,height=400,scrollbars=yes')" /></if>

If you don't want to use a button:

<if condition="can_moderate()"><a href="window.open('modcp/forumban.php?do=ban&userid=$post[userid]&forumid=$forum[forumid]','ban','width=700,height=400,scrollbars=yes')">Ban User</a></if>

If you do the latter, I suggest you change "Ban User" to a phrase for uniformity.

I'm not familiar with this mod, seems like I remember it lol so probably used it before but long story short I may not know what I speak of (lol) buttttt that's never stopped me before so regardless of how it works, you can work around it!

How? Make one new usergroup for this member, now in admincp you can add secondary usergroups to accounts, add them to the secondary usergroup then make sure that usergroup is not allowed to view said forum and done. Not the best solution but the point is when you're stumped, work with what you have and think outside the box ;).
