I have my forum running vB 3.6.1 and am very happy with it as well as the mods and plugins that are available for it. I have never done any research on vBadvaced and am clueless as to why it is supposedly better.

What are the pros and cons of running vBadvanced instead of normal vB?
Is there really that big of a difference over vB 3.6.1 that would make me drool over having vBadvanced instead?

People that have run on both please reply. Im not looking for a long detailed answer but more of what people like or dislike about each kind of vB.

Thanks guys.

Uh you dont run one or the other, vBadvanced is a portal, nothing more.

Ok, that doesn't tell me much, but thanks.

My question is obviously a n00b question, so the "Uh's" aren't necessary.

If you don't want to tell me what the vBadvanced portal does then a link to a thread that does would be more helpful.

vBAdvanced is like a home page for a forums. You can see stats, news, links, latest threads, latest poll, etc, and many others if you add modules. You run vBA on top of vB. It's just another addition to vB.

The Top X stats mod does most of those things. So there's really no reason to get it then.

I've also seen people with vBadvanced having a harder time installing mods or plugins then it seems to be for vB without vBadvanced.

Uh, not really, vBadvanced doesnt effect other modifications at all.

Uh, everybody is a n00b at some point. Yes, even you Zachery the l33t God coder who has knowledge beyond compare, were a n00b at some point.

For someone who is a Customer Team Moderator, you would think that your job would be to be helpful to new members. Quite the contrary, you are a sarcastic, unhelpful, snobish, unprofessional example of what a Moderator should NOT be.

I will do my best to ignore any so-called "helpful" posts you make from this point.

Please close this thread. I now know I need to search google or spend time reading endless threads before I ask questions here.

Some people want to have a frontpage giving some usefull information in a short form as the homepage for their site. You can see something similar here on vBulletin.org, where our homepage is what we call our portal, from there you can link to the actual forum, which is ofcourse vBulletin.

The frontpage can be used for example to bring some announcements under the attention of the visitors.

vBAdvanced is one of the products that you can use to make such a portal.
