Hi all,

Art here. New to the forum and loaded with questions.

I am running a forum based on 3.5. I like 3.6.1, but upgrading over top of my 3.5 system sounds like a nightmare, as I have lots of hacks that would take lots of work to revert, etc. I'd rather install a fresh copy of 3.6.1 on a brand new server with all of the latest bits and import all of my fourms, users, posts, etc., into a clean environment.

Anyone ever do this? Impex seems like the right tool but it also appears to be very complex.

Any pointers would be appreciated...TIA!

You can't use impex if you are moving your forum to a new server.
Impex needs to connect to an existing database in order to transfer threads / posts etc

I've used impex on several occasions and it works well :)

I have quite a few hacks and stuff myself when I went from 3.5.4 to 3.6.x. It's really not that much work reverting and redoing all edits. I'd just uninstall my mods, upgrade and revert, then make all my changes.
