ur hack is nice and its better than to put this code in the header

<meta http-equiv="Page-Enter" content="revealTrans(Duration=1.0,Transition=23)">
<meta http-equiv="Page-Exit" content="revealTrans(Duration=1.0,Transition=23)">

09-15-2006, 08:49 PM
This is very cool..

I can see a few more cool features to this... Allow certain usergroups to select their own effects. (not just in the admincp, but in the usercp).

Also, maybe a random effect setting?

utw-Mephisto
09-15-2006, 10:13 PM
As I said before there are way too many effects.

Ok, but how about at least one ? Ah well, nm anyway because according to my stats about 91% using FF anyway - nice idea though ..

Ziki
09-16-2006, 11:15 AM
PLease everybody be patient.I will set up a random effect on my demo site and also all the suggestions you posted.I just need to get home.

Gizmo5h1t3
09-16-2006, 07:42 PM
if its only a 3 second install, of ONE product file...why cant ppl just TRY it to see what it does, instead of mithering all the time?

if ya dont like it, get rid, its THAT simple.

Ski-Whiz
09-16-2006, 11:18 PM
That's what I did..

In a nutshell, it simply adds a transition to the way the page loads. Similar to any power point slide, just not as many effects (only 15 or so in this hack).

Ziki
09-17-2006, 05:36 AM
Oh just wait :),it won't be ONLY 15....hehe

09-17-2006, 05:46 AM
Damn shame, really nice hack, trouble is 100% of my members use either Safari or Firefox :(

Ziki
09-17-2006, 09:57 AM
Yeah firefox should really make a new version that supports active meta tags.

Or just tell your users to use the IE tab extension for FF :)

Gizmo5h1t3
09-19-2006, 07:25 AM

Wow - this is a way cool hack. Gonna have to pull you up on the install time though - it took 4 seconds to open the ACP, making 7 seconds in all :D lmao!

This is great work *Installed* - quick, easy, no probs.

A big thank you for this one, and eagerly looking forward to further additions.

*Nb: If anyone wants to see it working, follow the link in my signature - I'll be changing the effect every few days ;)

Pete C

Feedback? Okies - as I said it's an excellent idea, and it works. I upgraded to the last version (23 effects) . . . and they all work too. The only trade-off I've found - and sadly it's a big one - is the adverse effect on page loading times.

Once the transition kicks in, the effect (and durations) display correctly. The problem is with the delay before anything happens. With the hack disabled, the load times return to normal. I have reset the durations, but it doesn't help with the actual loading time, this only reduces the transition time.

For now, it's still installed, but I've had to turn it off in favour of acceptable load times. There are always faster servers (and faster computers) "just around the corner" so I'm hanging on to this in the hope I can put it to use in the future. If Ziki or anyone else has any thoughts on improving the speed, I'd love to turn it on again :)

Nice hack ....

Thanks

Ziki
09-23-2006, 05:31 PM
@Belder,

I will work on the load times.I have a fast PC and fast server so I don't see any difference :)

Ziki
09-26-2006, 05:56 PM
You know if you edit the template zh_load you have a part called duration in every meta tag.You can edit it.Default is 5 so I think that is what Belder means :D

Pete C
09-26-2006, 06:25 PM
Yes that's what I altered - the durations are all set at a default of 5. I've changed them to 3, but as I said, that only affects the duration of the transition effect. For some reason, there seems to be a further delay before anything happens at all.

Since that could be a server issue, I too would like to hear from anyone else using this, whether or not the durations have been edited.

Ziki
09-26-2006, 07:17 PM
I don't think it has any effect on the delay or anything because it are just simple meta tags.No hard codes :-/

Pete C
09-27-2006, 01:20 PM
Thanks for the replies Ziki. Now that we have Microstats installed, we've got the benefit of some facts. The effects add no queries, and appear to have a nominal (if any) effect on server load.

I've reset the durations as said b4, the ones we like best look better with the slightly shorter duration . . . and my host has been "tweaking" the server.

The result is an improvement in performance, and I've re-enabled the hack.

Once again, thanks for a great addition :)

Ziki
09-28-2006, 08:59 AM
I'm glad it went good :D.But you have a typo.It really adds one template query

whitetigergrowl
10-29-2006, 04:24 AM
I'm using IE7 and see no changes either. IE6 and IE 7 are not the same. There have been some fundmental changes between both that may be affecting this hack.

They are meta tags. They should work everywhere.Seems like the doesn't.If you read through the whole thread there are a few people that the new ones worked for.

How can I randomize this ?

i tried
$vboptions[zh_load_type]=rand(1,23) in the top of the template and it does not seem to work.

Ziki
01-14-2007, 06:57 AM
I still didn't think how to randomize it.

admin0
01-14-2007, 08:04 AM
You are storing the user selection in the database.

so my guess is your $vboptions[zh_load_type] = "select <somefield> from database where .. "
instead of that select, if you can tell me the page where its being called from

what we can do is something like

$vboptions[zh_load_type] = rand(1,23); or if I want say effect 1,2,,4,6,7 , then any random selection among this.

I really don't understand what you are saying.I am not selecting anything. This hack uses vboptions and that's all.

I know it's a bit late, but I think I've figured out why some of the effects don't display. This hack was working fine on my previous (3.5) board - all 23 effects.

Now I have 3.6 I've installed the patch version and only 15 effects are available.

Comparing the XML's for the original with the patched version, the XML for the patch only contains the first 15 effects.

Any chance of an update on the patch version for 3.6 & custom templates?

Ziki
04-18-2007, 12:27 PM
Sure maybe later I will also add the random effect

Pete C
04-18-2007, 12:52 PM
Thanks Ziki, I'll look forward to that. The majority of members on my previous site did use IE, and I don't think that's changed much with my new forum. This is a really nice hack . . . it'd be even better with all your effects working though ;)
