Tried it after the update and this is the same error as usual:

Loading data aiml file: C.aiml
XML error: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 36

All of this: éëá etc. will stop the aiml with an error.

Also the amount of data shuts down our database for one hour because the limit is exceeded. I hope this will be fixed.

this worth having?Not really in my humble opinion..........he talks a bunch of jibberish, and end's coversations with . and / etc........
Plus the thing doesn't learn........If you read in here that it does, then it's b.s.........I worked with this mod for a long time, and you can make certain changes in your aiml files, but as far as a bot that can actually have an intellegent coversation, no no no no.........Read back on some of my post's on this bot, in the beginning it was a great idea, but the fact that it can't learn how to post correctly, it's a waste of bandwidth..........


I still have it installed and have been trying to get the original coder's code to work as far as actually learning........but no go as of yet.. ExtremeTim claims to have it so it will learn, but i have yet to see a working version of that code. You can even check my post's at his site on this subject.

Ok did you upload the files as they are in the zip in this thread, If you did then you are pointing your browser to the wrong place.

And it may be easier to help with a proper url (unless you have something to hide) ;)

steveoh uk, are you using cpanel? If you are, go to your botloader.php file and click on it, over on the right handside of the page, it will show the address to the botloader.php file, just click on the link and it should take you to the botloader upload.......

If you do it by address, is your forum id, www.xxxxxx.com/forum or www.xxxxx.com/forums? if it is www.xxxxxxx.com/forum, you will need to type in www.xxxxxx.com/forum/alice/source/aiml/botloader.php or www.xxxxxx.com/forums/alice/source/aiml/botloader.php

The bot id needs adjusting to 0 from 1.. in my php by admin I see:

If you are seeing this then you're probably frustrated. :mad: This message is a generic message given by the Bot when there is no pattern in the post he can recognize (IE he can't find your words in his database.

The bot's database is created by building tables in your database during the botloader.php execution. If you're like me then you got it to start loading and then it would stall out. Mine showed loading different .aiml files and then would stop.

If it completes properly it should take a LONG time.... maybe 30 minutes or so. And then after a successful load of all the .aiml files (which build his databse of patterns) the script will return a colored message on your screen and you wil be prompted to try the talkerbot out. If you didn't get this message, then your .aiml files did not completely load.

My problem was timeouts on my server at the host. I even tried breaking up the .aiml files into smaller chunks but still after a minute or so of transfer and maybe a few files, it would quit.

What I ended up doing was editing the botloader.php file and taking out instances of "deletebot" which were basically clearing the tables each time a load started. I thought I was smart at first and I'll simply delete the files it showed that it loaded and then rerun botloader.php......

This was when I found out it was clearing the tables each time it executed. After editing the botloader.php file I was able to do the above method (running, deleteing files, re-running) and the mySQL table named "pattern" finally started growing like it should.

Now my bot actually answers posts instead of saying he doesn't feel well or can't connect to his database.

I hesitate to actually post the modded botloader.php file because I am sure that I did a terrible hack job on it code wise. Also, when the botloader would run, I wondered how muchof the last file it showed actually loaded into the table. So what I did was to delete all but the last one it was working on, that way when I re-ran it , it would start on the last one it was doing (to be sure it gets it all) I believe that this method probably creates redundant entries in the patterns table, but as I said, thsi was a hack-job, quick fix.

Anyway, I exported the "patterns" table from mine into a .sql file from the server and will attempt to post it here. maybe those with "Dumb bot syndrome" can import it via phpmyadmin directly into your dbase and give him an instant education.

Again: this is to solve the problem where the bot responds, but never really says anything except he can't connect with his database. If there is interest, I will also post the modded botloader.php file that prevents it from clearing the tables on each load.

(just noticed max file size prevents me attaching the zipped sql file. I will upload it to my server and try linking it.):D

Alright I think it uploaded OK. The zipped file is about 600K and it will unzip to about 6 Megs. It is in .SQL format and you should be able to import it into the "patterns" table. Click here to download. (http://www.extremeownage.com/patterns.zip)

I still get a huge long error when i try to change the rate of posting... and i thought it was because i didnt chmod. But now folder alice is set to 777 and its still not working..

could it be because my tables are prefixed with vb_?

Correct. Using this botloader file will allow you to upload files until it stalls, delete the ones it did, then urun again to upload more without clearing the patterns table each time.

Is it possible to solve the problem with the signs: é,á,ë,ä etc.? When these are present in the aiml the botloader dies with an error.

Also...when certain amount of aiml data is installed, the database goes down for one hour because of a limit set on mysql.

Is this problem solved when there are sql files for all tables as the patterns.sql from falcon 65?

I feel the same way webdude........ He tried to help me load what he called a learner bot at my site almost 10 months ago, and it never worked. I have been waiting almost a year to see if the learner bot script could be made functional. It used to work on the original talkerbot, and there is a chat program that uses the same exact files......I haven't really messed with the chat alice program yet, that may be something worth looking into.

Is it now possible to install large aiml files? So if there is a limit on mysql and when passing this limit mysql will be rendered useless for one hour.

Yup, all seems to be there fine.......I have installed the aiml files into the database as well.

I have added him to a testing forum section but he only ever says "I was not able to connect to my database. Please try again later." to every single statement. What exactly makes him say that? I can see that it is in the ewt_talkerbot file, but this comment is said when he cant access the database or what?

I also had this problem and the same error when I installed it tonight , the problem was simply I installed it in to the wrong directory. My forum is www.austech.info , not www.austech.info/forums.
I installed it in to a old folder called forum which I used to run before I got a dedicated server , so I would say you havent installed it to your actual root directory. Re-check where you have actually installed it.

It's working great, but I had to disable it. It gave me a no database connect error and also gave me a time out soon as i hit the post button. I then checked back, it made a post, but said could not connect to data base. I disabled it for now and yes, everything is 777. What is causing this? It seems like it can't hook to my database.

I just had to reinstall one of my forums and was having that issue of her responding before my post. When I had it use the % post, then changed it to 100% on the forum she posts in, that seems to have slowed down her response enough to make her response show up "after" my post. Basically added another querie for talkerbot, which gives that additional fraction of a second difference that you need..

I've followed the instructions to the letter for this one, botloader.php worked fine and I can chat to the bot, but if I try to get it to reply to a thread in the forum I get a message saying "I was not able to connect to my database. She can't even remember names from one day to the next, or anything else you tell her for that matter. I don't understand this...really I don't. Everything that is said to her is stored in the database so how can she forget *anything*? I tell her my name, she associates it with my User ID, and that should be that. I shouldn't have to keep repeating it over and over. What's causing this?

You change the name in the database. Just log in to phpmyadmin (or whatever you are using to manage your database) and you will see fields there to change everything.

I am pretty sure he will create fields for this to be changed via the admin panel eventually.

If you got a 404 error page, make sure your files are uploaded and in the right spot. That's not a hack / mod problem, it's operator error. (No offense). It just means that you did not do something right.

Your dbprefs.php edits were not done correctly. Some servers have different paths to the folders. As you can see in the fatal error I posted above, mine is much longer than what other have used.

Simply any post saying " I am still working on it " would suffice. There have been quite a few " abandoned projects " , where members have been left hanging ,if that is the case , thats all we want to know.

If it still is an active project , thats great , people just want to know either way.

Its taken me 3 minutes to post this. That is all thats required to let people know either way. Its not that hard is it ? :)

Yes , it is a great mod , but DONT upgrade !

We all have bots that wont learn anything , if yours is working fine and you upgrade you will end up with a bot with no learning ability.

As long as you are aware of this , feel free to upgrade.

I uploaded all of the bits to the right place. I think it may have something to do with the names of my folders? the full name of the alice folder is /public_html/alice/src/admin/ but when i try this it also doesn't work.

Try it, it will work.

IF some one could just tell me the files that need editing to get this to work right, I'm sure I can figure out the codeing (hint hint @ the developer ) If i can get this to work right, I'd be glad to share the code changes needed.

Triple checked the CHMOD on all the files and folders.

I used to be now I am using hastyhost.com and loving it. Dreamhost is a scam anyways - try and near their so called limits and they shut down your site

Next, in phpadmin, I located and dropped the following table created and that resolved my problems. Hope this helps!

This is a fun hack, but like so many people here are saying its not very useful since it can't learn.

It would be an excellent automated help bot if you could make it learn stuff. Even if it was a manual process to add things it would be better then it is now.

At the moment its just a novelty thing that keeps people amused for about 5 minutes.
I've got it installed still, but I think I'll disable it until we can make it learn a few things.

Tim if you're there mate, please give people access to the learning system. Even if its hard to install, it will be better then nothing at all. I think you'll find people will be happier with your hack even if its hard to install then to have a bot that just doesn't learn or do anything useful.

Tim aint got nothin to teach that allows the bot to learn, i have been along the ride with this mod for almost a year now, and he doesn't have anything for it..........seem's what he is doing is sparking interest on certian (easily built mods), then tries to redirect all of the vborg peeps to his site listed above, hoping to get you to buy his um, mods.....

I personally had given him access to my system and he tried messing around with code he said should work, and it didn't do anything...........All this bot does at this point is take up space..........

OK i think i understand my problems now. It seems for that error you need "allow_url_fopen=on" some where...ive read both in .htaccess and php.ini

But on my website there are lot of .htaccess files and i cant find any php.ini file

As far as the "I cannot connect to the the database" thing, it seems that i need that allow_url_fopen=on added for it to work. Im talking to my provider to see if he can change that. Ill post back if i have any news.

The only way to make TalkerBot smarter is by more aiml files. They can be found at http://www.alicebot.org/downloads/sets.html

Then, you have to re-run alice\src\admin\botloader.php to update the database.

I installed this about 2 months ago and made absolutely no changes to any of the files, and it works exceptionally well. It now has the ability to associate my members with what vehicles they drive. I recently had a regular member just say hello to the bot and it replied by asking her about her cobra mustang. (which is what she drives)

I think what the problem is that you guys don't give it enough time to learn. It has to have frequent interaction with other members in order for it to learn. It learns very slowly, but it does learn quite well with no modifications made to any of the provided files. Also, if you isolate it to one forum it seems to work better.

This is a fun hack, but like so many people here are saying its not very useful since it can't learn.

It would be an excellent automated help bot if you could make it learn stuff. Even if it was a manual process to add things it would be better then it is now.

That would be truly awesome.

Are there any coders who could work with Tim and make the learning system and split the rights to it or something.

An automated help bot, and being able to remember normal conversations would make the addition of it being able to learn and fantastic hack which I'm sure would bring both parties a great deal of business.

Sorry , you are wrong. I run it on a 60,000 member site and it has had plenty of time to learn. It does learn , but not for long. You can come back the next day and it wont recognize you or anything you have taught it.

it learns and retains the data from day to day. and you can see where it adds responses to it's file.

I know when i completey redid my forum that's when she started giving me that message as I deleted all the info on all the threads that she was selected to learn from. could this be why she is not working.

I tried to install the bot, but the Instruction / Howto, I do not understand, I tried the steps, but I guess Im to stupid to get it work.

So here is what I did :

1. Uploaded the files
2. CHMOD 777
3. Created a user "Sharon"
4. Run the /alice/src/admin/botloader.php
5. Got no errors

Then I made the test, but I get a BLANK screen.

Finally I do not understand where I have to configure the bot ?

no there isn't....

From what I've gathered, Tim is supposed to be working on a new version of this hack (to be released on HIS site) that will fix a number of such issues, as well as actually having a "learning" ability, which he mislead us into believing this one had....."This bot will learn overtime slowly from your users posts."- this is completely false!!.... However there is no knowing when, or even if, this new version will be completed. I've been waiting for 2 months for it now:(.

I've done a lot a research into the ALICE system since downloading this hack (never did get it to run on my server, but runs from my computer fine) The bot will learn, on a "short term" basis, by using cookies stored on each users computer. You can teach the bot on a more "long term" level, but you need to learn how the aiml files are set up, and how to create more. This is a fairly easy language to learn, and there is a lot of support on how to do so, available from the 'ALICE foundation' is self. I have successfully created several of my own aiml files, as well as located many through the foundation.

Would LOVE if some one would pick up this hack, and develop it more. I'm not very good at designing hacks, other wise I would do it myself hehe. If some one did decide to pick this up though, I'd be more than happy to help supply more AIML files, as well as custom ones I've done myself, including a VBulletin "how to/support" file, allowing the bot to run basically as a tech support personality for forum users (coping mostly the FAQ, and adding several more complicated questions as well) :)

If I didnt already suggest it or ask about it, is there one straight text file we can go in to to set all the basics of the bot,like it's name, fav color, gender, fav food., etc, without having to edit tables in the database. Like just an aiml file we could later and upload

I think if your post sis too long it gives this answer. If you ask it one short question, like "How are you?" or "What is your name?" it will respond. (should - lol )

Unofficial Uninstallation Instructions: (first make a backup of your database!)

1. Uninstall the product in Product Manager (won't do much since no uninstall instructions are in the xml file, but still recommended)

2. Drop these tables from your database (for example using PhpMyAdmin):

bots
conversationlog
dstore
gmcache
gossip
patterns
templates
thatindex
thatstack3. Delete the "alice" folder from your forum root directory and the "ewt_talkerbot.php" file from your forum root directory.

4. Delete the user you created for the bot. You can also delete the bot's posts if you want to.

I have tried this on my own forum after making a backup and everything still works fine.

Great post OS Master, i wish vbulletin.org would lock this thread so other's will stop trying to use it. It doesn't learn and it take's alot of bandwidth from your server. This is just my .02 on closing this dead modification.

Those that insist on trying to use this mod, please follow OS Master's step's when you go to uninstall it from your site.
