Replacing keywords with links

WHen certain words are used, I want them to become links automaticly. Problem is if I tell it to replace 'word' with '<a href="">word</a>', then when it gets quoted by the next poster it becomes '<a href=""><a href>word</a></a>' and compounds itself, is there way to work around this?

I use the geek link thingamaboobie. Find it at vbgeek.com. It isn't free but it works very well.
