You can edit the registered user group to suit your needs.
I once had a groups called registered2 where it was the same as registered.
I changed registered to moderate all posts. After x days or x posts I set a promotion to registered2 so they can post as they pleased.

What are you looking to do?

I want when people join to go into a usergroup where they cannot post for the first day, after 24 hours they will be promoted to the normal registered users group.

Make sense?

Cheers

Sure. That is sort of what I did.
Add a new usergroup copying the registered usergroup.
At the bottom of the create a new usergroup you will see
Create Permissions Based off of Usergroup: Registered
Name it registered2 (or whatever you want)

Edit the registered usergroup.
Post / Thread Permissions: NO.

Set up a promotion greater or equal to, days registered to 1.
Promotion Type Primary Usergroup to Registered2.

Now someone can view the board but can't post for 1 day.

EDIT: Are you going to let guests view your board?
