Hey guys,

I have a pretty medium sized but full featured forum. I am switching from phpBB and am about to take it live.

The problem is, the site is SLOW. I don't remember it being like this before, but I did the big import today.

Check it out: http://community.190revolution.net

And check out the old phpbb forum running on the SAME server: http://www.190revolution.net
It is a lot faster!

I am running the following
VB 3.6 with vbStyles.com Aria theme
PhotoPost Pro
vbAdvanced CMPS
vbAdvanced Links Directory
FlashChat with Flash Chat Integration and "Who is chatting"
vbSEO 3.0 RC4 with standard configuration.

It seems like the page loads are quick, but it hangs hard before it can get going. The server load with just me tooling around and doing DB work are 1.0X ish. It is running on a shared server at A Small Orange. It is running on Linux with PHP 4.4.4

Does any one have any ideas on how I can trouble shoot or improve this problem? And also, I'd love to hear what you guys think of the site... I'd like suggestions and criticisms.

I would say the site is slow due to a server issue. Looks good though, good luck.

PS. Notice how 69.56.131.114 runs just as slow as the site.

it could be many things..
I've compiled a thread of some vBulletin Optimizing Tips (http://forum.vbulletinsetup.com/f7/vbulletin-optimisation-tips-2.html) here...
I suggest you checking it out, My site ( when my host isn't being a pain ) fly's, thanks to some of the suggestions in the thread..

Good luck, let me know if you have questions about different suggestions..

Thank you guys.

I followed all the tips and did some experiments that determined vbseo is NOT the bottleneck.

What is there to do, pack up and find a new host?

What is your server load? You can find it in the AdminCP index page

if its high, then wait to see if it drops some. If its constantly high, email your hosting company and ask why the server load is always high. I've not known ASO (asmallorange) hosting to be slow, and if it is its usually not for very long, maybe suggest a server move ;)

I have about 30 members online right with a good 8 in the chatroom and my loads are: 2.90 2.39 2.21

I saw them at 3.3 2.9, and 2.8 earlier today.

Seems high to me?

ASO responded by increasing the simultaneous connections to my server. But I am still seeing pages generate in .2 to .6 seconds.

Is it appropriate to ask for a move from one ASO shared server to another?

If its slow its most likely server. I use have a phpbb forum on Dot5hosting it was terribly slow! At first I thought it was something on my end but did some investigation and found out from other users on my forum that they had the same problem. I spoke to them about it but they never fixed it. The best advice lol I left and went to Al-in (http://www.al-in.nl/) and I use hostgator.com. They have good fast servers never had a problem with them.

it's more then likely your server.
I have a VPS with www.fluidhosting.com and have had 130+ users on at once, and the server loads haven't gone over .02

I agree on this comment. I have a board with 200+ online members and server load never goes above .02 or .03

As someone said, go to vb.com forum and ask for a server optimization. And consider moving to a better server.
Good luck!
