I know this keeps coming up, but, there was talk about changing how it all worked, and I believe it was promised that the new method would be made public. Any progress on this?
I want to be a Master Coder :P

Your title is based on Modification count and install count. If you want Master coder you need to release more mods and get installs like all the other Master coders. ;)
Concerning promising a new method? I don't recall that. But I do have some ideas that haven't been put to paper (or post)....

That's fine. I wasn't suggesting it be given to me. I was suggesting the numbers be made public so I have a goal to shoot for.

I seem to remember talk about not having it hack count related, but subjectively based on staff reviewing a coders work, and other contributions to the board like how-tos and such.

Yes, definitely basing it on other contributions is something I have in mind. I personally would still like Modification count related, but including other things into the algorithm is definitely something I agree with.

The titles we have are MUCH better than the post counts that were previously used. But, for what it's worth, I pay very little attention to them because I've seen the garbage some people release just to earn a title. (I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ANYBODY IN THIS THREAD. DO NOT LYNCH ME :D )
I think the best thing to do in a community like this is:
a) Share your work
b) Fill a request or two from time to time
I don't notice people for their titles. I notice them for their work and their ability to answer questions with intelligent clarity. I couldn't begin to tell you what title Andreas or Zero Tolerance have, but I know I respect the hell out of the work they do. And, no matter what title some people have under their name, I know that they are unoriginal hacks.

Then lets just get rid of titles if they don't matter :)

Well some Coders like to have a goal. These titles allow for that, and maybe also a little friendly competivity. Does it truly represent someone's abilities? That depends solely on everyone's personal opinions. Could there be improvements? Of course. :)
You could add like two coder titles more :p
And anyway hambil release 10 more hacks and you are master coder ;)

anyway hambil release 10 more hacks and you are master coder ;)Just to tease you even more, the exact number of mods needed is not fixed, nor is an exact amount of installs required ......

Or maybe he won't be. Like Paul said, it's very complex and is not as simple as releases and installs.

I think the 'mystery' is silly, but the staff seems bent on doing it that way, so, whatever I guess.
Yup I don't see the point of hiding it but it makes the more fun outta it :)

The problem with giving all the details is that some people will do whatever they have to in order to reach the numbers, which can make for a lot of spam type mods. I know this has been mentioned several times though, just thought I would throw it in here. Even then, a person must have the installs in order to get bumped to the next level, that part cannot be cheated.
And it isn't the fun when we don't know but still try :)

I'm not aware of any such promise, and as previously said, it's not as simple as a set of numbers anymore.
