vbulletin 3.6 has the facility to specify a version checking url in a products settings which allows admins to compare the version number they have installed with the latest version number defined by the Author.

The facility to use this system to check the version number of any modification released at vbulletin.org has now been added.

To enable this for your modifications you need to do the following ;

1. Edit the mods details to add the product id (a new field).

2. Make sure your version number is correct.

3. Add the version checking url to your product.

The version check url you specify is ;

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/misc.php?do=checkversion&t=121884

Where 121884 is the threadid of your modification.

Nice and useful! Hope coders will start using this soon. ;)

Paul M,

I just tried to add to your Reputation but discovered that it's disabled here. :D

This facility is also planned to be upgraded in the near future to allow checking by the product id rather than the thread id, and also the facility for a help url (by product id) that will redirect to the modifications thread. These will allow the urls to be added to a product when the threadid is not yet known.

When you're in the Product Manager - in the Dropdown bar that has Export, Uninstall, Disable, etc... there's a Version Check option.

vbulletin 3.6 has the facility to specify a version checking url in a products settings which allows admins to compare the version number they have installed with the latest version number defined by the Author.this shall be a great addon for all the modifications/products installed on forums..

The system has been updated to add two new options ;

../misc.php?do=producthelp&pid=xxxxxx
../misc.php?do=productcheck&pid=xxxxxx

The first does a product/thread lookup and then performs a re-direct to the appropriate thread.

The second does a product/thread lookup and then performs a version check based on the productid.

The original version check remains untouched.

These two new options allow you to add the urls to a product without needing to know the threadid at vb.org.

As a result, the product id in our database needs to be unique, so when entering/updating the productid in the mod edit screen, a duplicate check is performed, if a duplicate is detected an error screen is displayed.

everytime i want this info i have to come to this thread, i'd rather just be able to copy and paste it from within the actual release thread.

I've added the information to an annoucement in the 3.6 section.

Any plans to have a list of the product id's used to avoid potential conflicts?

No such plan exists atm, interesting idea though. Duplicates will cause an error message when you try and add them, or you could just try the help url with your product id and see if it redirects to a thread.
