Upradging and reverting templates

Hi peeps

I upgraded last night and all was well, most if not all haks installed appeared to be working..

I then went through all the templates that needed reverting, did them and lost most if not all hacks...

1. Is it imperative to revert the templates?
2. What woud happen if i didnt revert them?


look forward to your replies as i have lots and lots of hacks and addons as i
am sure your all aware and reinstalling them could take an age and a half and some :(

Congrats on the successful upgrade :) I was wondering how you would go on.

Anyway, back to business, most if not all of the new 3.6 features require quite a number of edits to the templates, and as more edits have been added on every beta and RC (including Gold) it's not actually easy to even make a list, without the fact that the templates are heavily modified to begin with.

If you don't edit the templates, then most of the new features won't work.

I feel your pain though, It's certainly not my idea of a day or two's fun having to redo them all.

thanks and erm.....I gone back to 3.5.5 :)
I got no end of DB errors obviously these are due to installed hacks that are not working as they should be :(

Anyway, since going back and restoring the db i get a blank page when trying to create a new thread, also in the forumdisplay there should be a newthread button but its just showing the Post New Thread link as is....

I aint sure whats going on as i have upgrade and restored about 3 times now since last night, the other 2 times went well, this time i have this issue creating a new thread...

When i click on the Post New Thread link it takes me to http://www.bashys-place.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=90 notice the forums/ aint there and gives a 404 not found error, not sure why this is either.....

so if one was to upgrade to 3.6,and then not do the template edits/reverts all previuos hacks installed under 3.5 would be ok? just the new 3.6 features wont work?? thats something i could live with.

I must confess bashy i'm a sucker for hacks too,thats why i'm not game enough to upgrade,I dont like fixing whats not broken

Anyway, i have just upgraded again to 3.6.0 this was the only way i could get the newthread to work....gutted, eveything elses seems to work as well, me not gonna do any reverting me thinks :) leave it as it is now!!!

Unless i get advised to do so....hope not mind lol

so every hack is running fine Bashy??? so you didnt revert any templates at all just left the as is??? let me know if you get any errors,i might be tempted to take the plunge lol

The 3.6 features will not work without the templates being reverted, so it is advisable to first prepare your style on a 3.6 testboard, and make sure you do a test upgrade a few times to make sure you know exactly what problems you may encounter when you do it live.

I have a few things that aint working, creating a new thread, theres hardly any bbcodes there and it looks like i have to put the smiley box back under the text box.....

Main issue atm is the newreply, newthread, editpost (advanced edit)

Anyway, got to go work....

My advice....pay someone to do it lol

So that's why my smiley more link isn't working? :surprised: Now what do I do? I tried reverting the new reply template, no luck? I am at the end of my perverbial rope. Everthing else seems ok? Can one of you take a look at my forum and tell me what you think?
