Hi,
I have just installed this on 3.7.1 PL and it is not working. I thought I read somewhere that it would work with this version? :o
I see the edit favorite smilies in the user control panel and I have gone into the Usergroups, clicked on "Go" and set it up in the Message Posting Interface Options section, but when I refreshed my page nothing shows up in the reply box. I have double checked everything and I don't see a Star and when I click on my smilie drop down box, it's still the default smilies I have.
I have enclosed two attachments so you can see what I am talking about :)
Thanks for any help you can give! My members are going to LOVE this!! :up:
It might be an issue with an edit in functions_editor.php. Re-check it again as it should work, unless there's a conflicting code from another mod.
Umm...What version did you install it again? 3.7.1 didn't come out at that time. :confused:

I don't seem to have ever thanked you for this mod...So um, thanks! I've been using this since October and my users love it. Its great for a forum where everyone is encouraged to submit their own smilies so our list just keeps growing, this way people can just put the smilies they like in their editor. :)

I don't know what I am doing wrong :( I have started over a couple of times and am still not getting it. I normally don't have this much trouble adding things to my site.
I am still not seeing any star or favorite smilies box like I first reported :( I followed the steps too. Any one have any ideas why it is not working for me?
djbaxter
01-06-2008, 01:29 AM
FLMom, have you made sure to do the final two steps?
STEP 6: In the AdminCP, go to 'Usergroup' -> 'Usergroup Manager' and click 'Go' to edit any of the usergroups (saving is not necessary, going to the page is all that's required).
STEP 7: Confirm and set (if necessary) the four new options in 'vBulletin Options' -> 'Message Posting Interface Options'.

FLMom, have you made sure to do the final two steps?
I have and then I even picked my 20 favorite smilies from the user control panel. Then when I go to make a post or even reply to a post I don't see any star or favorite smilies section :(
djbaxter

Then you've missed something in the edits to includes/functions_editor.php.
You might try uploading that file from the original vBulletin package and starting again - be careful though if you've installed other mods which may have affected that file.
Alternatively, go through that file step-by-step to ensure that all the required edits are there and in the correct places - there are several of them.

I do not see anything in the usercp to set up the favorite smileys. I re-checked the permissions and everyone that I want to be able to use this is checked to a "yes". I cautiously followed the install directions but there is nothing showing in my cp. I'm using 3.6.8 with patch. Any ideas?

At least for me the mod is working in vB 3.7 Beta 3 and Beta 4. I also had it on 3.6.8 PL2 and it only a couple minor glitches, one in which I had a fix for (somewhere in this thread) and the other a counting error.
For you both make sure that the file edits are applied again if you've upgraded. Remember there are PHP and template edits to do. If still a no go then there may be a conflict in another mod.

I did all the modifications and unistalled all my mods prior to the 3.7 upgrade. I will try again and see if it works.

I've been running it on Beta 4 so I don't see why it wouldn't work in Beta 5 and 6. Looking at what's changed between versions shouldn't conflict with Favorite Smilies. I could be wrong, though. :)

I agree. Sounds like an error in the functions_editor.php edit.
I suggest that you first, disable the Favorite Smiliies plugin. If your editor works as it should then the problem is with the installation of this mod. If the problem continues then there's something else going on.

since saving the fav smilies is done via a form, do we need new/extra edits for the required sercurity tokens from the lastest security release, perhaps?
i'm hoping to upgrade to gold soon myself, and this is a pretty big issue for me if so because my members are very fond of their favorite smilies. :D

I'm running 3.6.8 and this worked before but all of the sudden if anyone tries to change their favorites they get a pop up saying
Your Favorite Smilies List only has room for 0 selections.
If you would like to add this one, please uncheck one to make room.
You get the same message whether you're trying to add one or remove one.
Helps?

05-10-2008, 07:43 PM
Well I managed to find out why it was set to 0.
I think I found it. It looks to be pulling the value from the Smiliebox Total Smilies field in the Message Posting and Interface section of the Options.
I had to change that as it was set to 0 because I don't display smilies in a box on my editors. So I had to remove the code from the SmiliesBox template so it does not show up. Seems a silly way to set the amount of favorites you can have. Is there a way around this?

Hams:
That appears to be a showpost/threadview page. Favorite smilies isn't on either page (except quick reply if you've hacked it in). The only place you should see a reference to favorite smilies is in the editor toolbar, and User CP -> Favorite Smilies.

Well, since it uses the number of smilies set to display in your forums as the number of favorites, I doubt there is a way to work around it without adding a column to a table and recoding the product. since default vb installs only display smilies on the advanced editor and most people don't force them to not display at all, it sounds like your situation is unusual at least.

well, as long as you're running the token fix from a few posts up, it has been working for others on 3.7. i would check your file edts and your smilie settings in the vb backend to see if you can see anything out of the ordinary.
are you running any other hacks that would impact smilies or the text editor? and what happens when you try to save? do you get an error or does it just go through the process and not save?

On 3.7.0 this code is no longer included in functions_editor.php
else
{
$vBeditJs['smilie_options_array']["$smilie[category]"][] = "\t\t'more' : '" . addslashes_js($vbphrase['show_all_smilies']) . "'\n";
break;
}

$prevcategory = $smilie['category'];
}
Following that, I have this:
############### FAVORITE SMILIES #################
if ($show['favsmilies']) {
$vBeditJs['smilie_options_array']["$smilie[category]"][] = "\t\t'more' : '" . addslashes_js($vbphrase['show_all_smilies']) . "'\n";
}
############### /FAVORITE SMILIES ################
And it works very nicely...
I've attached my version in case it might help - Good Luck!!
Oh awesome! Thank you!!! I will try this out later tonight and see if I can get it to work. :D

I just upgraded to 3.7.1 and I just had to go in and re-enter info into custom template since I updated my template and fav smilies seems to be working fine still
Doesn't work for me @ vbulletin 3.7.0,
I'm getting the following error when i press "Save" button.

I got that once I think. I had to visit my Usergroups pages and set a couple up.
(Seems there was a rebuild process I could do too)

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I also tried your edited function_editor file (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=1535743#post1535743) but no luck.

The fix for this was posted by a user several pages back.
Open template favoritesmilies:
Find:
<input class="button" type="reset" value="$vbphrase[reset]" name="resetfavs"><input class="button" type="submit" value="$vbphrase[clear_list]" name="clearfavs">
Below it add:

thanks, both for the specifics and especially for attaching your version. i had grabbed it at the time, and it came in handy when i had to do a quickie update becasue, through some inattentiveness, i broke my forum with the wrong version of the security patch...LOL.
Anyway, your file worked perfectly and i upgraded without breaking my fav. smilies! thank you.

I'm using this hack on 3.7 and appearently everything was OK.
But I noticed on advanced editor options (just like when you use quote or go advaced) some editor functions are messed up like font color.
Probably there is a conflict between 3.6.8 and 3.7 functions_editor.php file when edited to have this hack working.
I just can't figure it out what on this file.
Has any one here found the same ?

when you use that addon, there is a different template for your user control panel menu being accessed. you'll need to add the link to edit the favorite smilies in the template for your alternative cp menu...

for something like this, often you can find the fix by browsing backward from the end of the thread; if a mod doesn't work with a recent update, there's a good chance other people have discussed it, after all. :p

That happens on my forum every time I run an upgrade and includes/functions_editor.php gets overwritten with a fresh copy. Make SURE you have made the edits to includes/functions_editor.php, and that they have not been overwritten, such as in a forum upgrade etc.
(Also make sure you have set each usergroup to be able to use the favorite smilies. :) But it's usually the includes/functions_editor.php edits that mess me up.)

That's weird...you don't even have like, WordPad? That's what I generally use. You must have SOME kind of text editor on your computer, and if not, I'm sure you can download one.

When I upgraded from 3.6.8 to 3.7.0 I had this issue just like you.
You'll have to revert all templetes used by this mod and edit them manually again, just like if you want to unistall it and re-install it.
Try this and I'm sure it's gonna work for you.

This modification is not compatible with this one:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=135336
I'm guessing only one or the other will work, because I've noticed both want to go in the same location under the Smilie icon of the editor and My Favorite Smilies aren't showing up, it just says my smilies, which is annoying because what if I want My Smilies to be some of the defaults?
Might be recommended to add that to the front page of your mod.

Can anyone please help me? I'm almost there!
No matter what I do, I can't get the smilies to save!
I see the yellow star, I have the link in the User CP, I get the list of smilies to chose from, but when I click on "save", the selections won't hold. I have redone steps over and over again (with the instructions in post #329 and the security token fix as well) and can't get it to work to save my own life. :confused:

In the very first part of step 1 of the installation instructions, look at the 'replace with' code. In this part:
else {
$smilies = $vbulletin->db->query_read_slave("
SELECT smilieid, smilietext, smiliepath, smilie.title,
imagecategory.title AS category
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "smilie AS smilie
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "imagecategory AS imagecategory USING(imagecategoryid)
ORDER BY imagecategory.displayorder, imagecategory.title, smilie.displayorder
");
$totalsmilies = $vbulletin->db->num_rows($smilies);
}
You would replace the...
ORDER BY imagecategory.displayorder, imagecategory.title, smilie.displayorder
line with...
ORDER BY rand()
The result would be random smilies in the smilie box when the user has not selected a favorite smilies list.
Darwinist,
Does your above changes make my Smilies Cloud remain random and not show the fave smilies?
Our goal: we have the fave smilies show in the drop down menu of the Smilies button on the editor, and we want the Smilies cloud to remain random and not show the faved smilies there.
If the above change does not work, please advise on how to make the Smilies Cloud remain random.
