This is the port of the VB 3.5.X version (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=114149)

Function
The vbgooglemap Hotspot Edition is a design from StonyArc (http://www.stonyarc.com). It allows you to create and maintain a whole range of elements like landmarks, places to visit or even people. The application is fully manageable from the control panels. Each specific category can have a specific colour code. The configuration is done by the administrator. He or she can edit/approve/add catogories name it, it's there.
Clicking on a marker will open a small balloon with some essential elements for that spot and an image in the second tab. For each marker on the map there is also a full details page including support for the vbulletin full editor (wysiwyg) so additional information and images can be added.

Use the menus to navigate through all the functions.

Vbgooglemap Hotspot Edition is ideal for handling landmarks, travel, events or even giving your users their own page.

- Set the file permissions on the spotmarkers.xml file to 777
- usergroup permissions are available in the backend
- First time loading of the map may take a few seconds longer because of Google API hosting

Make sure you all read the pdf included.

There is an auto approve function you need to activate and you also need to set the usergroup permissions

What other hacks are you running?

You can try a full reinstall. Make sure after an install you do a full refresh of the page.

Did you get the bitfields in the usergroups manager?

I upgraded to 3.6.0. My hse didn't recognize my key. Then I clicked on "update" under "General Settings". Then I went to see if it would would work and it did.

Also, I added an element. I then created a category. I tried to edit the element to add it into my new category but there is no text box to enter it into.

Also, is it possible that a user type in an address to show the location on the map?

same Prob, but only if the vbgooglemapmember edition xml files in the includes/xml dir.

Because there is a bug in the template file. One condition is too much. Just compare it with the other (member-edition) template and remove it.

Stonyarc, well done on a great mod. It installed easily and seems to work perfectly. However, now that I'm using it, there are a few features which it could do with. I'm not sure if you are planning on adding any features to this mod, or where you would take feature suggestions, but I figured this would be as good a place as any.

1. Have the ability to customise fields used. For example, I would like to have a few more fields available than “marker title, marker text, special date, URLs and full text”. I would like to add 2 or 3 custom fields which are relevant to the purpose for which they are used for (user submitted biodiesel retailers – blend strength sold, consumer confidence rating, price per L, supplied by, etc). I can currently ask that people put these in the “full text” field, but then they are not prompted for specifics and the data can get hard to manage that way.
2. When editing a marker placed by another user, the name of the person editing the marker replaces the original username who set it. It would be good if the name of the original submitter stayed on it and if a forum moderator (who has permission to edit) changes anything, then their name would not replace the original submitter.
3. When displaying a username on a marker, it would be nice if it linked to the member profile.
4. The ability to change the default names that are currently hardcoded: Example, the name of the link that displays on the navbar is "google map HSE" and the name on the main page says "Googlemap Hotspot Edition - Welcome to the vbgooglemap Hotspot Edition.". I’ve changed some of mine manually through template edits, but it would be more elegant to simply allow a field for a variable in the Admin CP.

I'll probably have loads more suggestions, but I won't place any more unless there is a want for them. Stonyarc, if you do want to develop/improve this mod further, please say so and I'll maybe come back with a few more. If not, then I'll just hack a bit myself as I need. I'm grateful for the mod as it is 90% exactly what I needed already.

Normally i log in with my Username Manny which it's also an admin but the UserID is 2.
Then i tried to log in to the ACP as Admin (UserID 1) and it works. Back as Manny and it also works.
That solved my problem with missing in ACP. Try login as the adminuser with the id1. Hope this helps. :)

Hey Stonyarc, good to see you are still working on this one. I will make a donation on your next revision.

I've already mentioned a few suggestions in my last post in here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1087447&postcount=60). But since then, geocoding is really the main feature that I desperately need. I notice that the current api (v2) supports geocoding, so I'd hope this makes it simple to implement here. So, here is a summary of the features that I think would be good (apart from my original suggestions):


Geocoding would have to be my #1 most useful feature, as my users are far less likely to submit locations on the map if they have to go to a 3rd party site to get the lat/log first. If they could simply use an address and look it up in my site directly, then they will actually start to use the map. With the geocoding, it would be nice to have the option to "add this as a location" from within the API. What I mean is, when a user has searched and found the location they want via geocoding, they can simply click on a link to add that location as a marker. They would then get the option to choose the category add extra fields, etc. This would save the user having to cut & paste the lat/long from the geocode when they wanted to enter a location. Lastly, geocoding would only be available to registered members (or possibly definable user groups).

Also, the ability to zoom in and out with the scroll wheel of the mouse would be cool, but again, I guess that's probably included with the current API?

What I mean is that currently, there are coloured markers on the map for each category and the coloured flags are displayed along the top in the "HSE Dashboard". It would be great if clicking on one of these categories would highlight only the items matching that category on the map and hide the others. Perhaps you could add a "show" label to the front of these the also include another category for "show all", which would possibly be the default display.

The ability to rate a location, or for users to provide extra comments. In my case, I list biodiesel suppliers, so it would be good if members could rate (say from 1 to 5) how well they trusted the quality of the supplier at that location. If this is too hard, then at least the ability for the original submitter of that location to be able to have a field to provide that data (already in my original suggestion).

The ability to link directly to a marker. I'd like to be able to post a link in a forum thread to a marker on the map with a defined zoom. For example when a link gets put to the component, it will start at the default view, which is zoomed out. It would be nice if when a link was posted to the marker, it could zoom in as well as centering the marker on the map.

The ability for a user to edit their own entries. Currently, permissions are only set for add, edit delete etc. This means that generally registered users can add, moderators can edit and admins delete (or something like that). What happens when a user adds a marker and gets it wrong? They have to ask a mod or an admin to fix it for them.

Link to the calendar for events, This comes with my first point. But it would also allow the link to expire when the calendar listing does and better synch with the calendar system.

I have imagetabs with dynamic images, and noticed that everytime page is loaded, all the images has to be loaded first, before they are displayed... any suggestions, how to reduce this load, and only load images when marker is clicked? Right now I have 200 markers, and loading 200 images is kind of waste of bandwith....

Loaded it, and it worked first time out of the box! Very impressed, and very easy to use. Now is it possible to reduce the width of the map very slightly? You know what us designer types are we like it all to line up nicely. Its not desporate but it would be nice.

Just an FYI, your version # didn't change in the xml...I edited it from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 so it displays right.

One question though, is there a way to have multiple starting maps?

Perhaps map categories with different zooms etc?

Some of the maps I need are VERY local, and some are very far apart. It would be nice to have separate maps or, at least separate lat/long with zooms.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not but I would love to have the ability to create URL paths to different Map Marker setups. There are multiple ways I can use this great mod on my site but it would be a mess to show them all at once. My site is limited to the state of North Carolina and currently I am showing the location of site "blog reports". I'd like to be able to show boat ramp locations also and then be able to create a html link to both of those map marker configurations ("Blog Reports" link/"Boat Ramp" link). I hope I'm making sense here. Thanks again for a great vb addon!

I agree, but I would also like to make a marker a member of multiple categories.

Okay I just did a test and confirmed that the "Opt Out" link in the invitation email results in the You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1. You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again.
2. You may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
3. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
How can I get rid of this message so non-members can actually opt out?

I just upgraded to 3.6.4 and now it says my API key is registered for a different web site. Do I need to download and and install 1.0.4 again? If so, I've already got a lot of content on the map...how do i go about installing but not overwriting all of the info? the instructions say to make sure "overwrite" is set to yes, but that was for an upgrade to 1.0.4...just a little confused. I see that it does not sanitise the input of the coordinates before inserting into the database. Here I just copied and pasted the coordintes from google earth, which contain ' and ".

This is a great mod, many thanks to the author.

I installed it successfully on my 3.6.4 version, but I have problems inserting markers with greek characters. I use Googlemaps for my job as well, and have made quite a few applications with it. The only thing that's needed for other languages with weird character (like Greek) to work, is to declare the encoding in the XML file. For example Greek is ISO-8859-7 . Problem is, everytime a user inserts a marker in the map, the XML file is automatically re-generated (I suppose), and the encoding value returns to ISO-8859-1.

Is there any way around this? Has anyone else had a similar characters encoding problem? I believe that the problem lies not only in changing this value in the markers XML file, but also in some way when the module is "inserting" a marker's info in the XML, it does so through ISO-8859-1.

Can anyone elaborate on this?

Ok, so what is better then?

I actually want to be able to control what members might post as a hot spot or pin or whatever you want to call it.

So lets say a particular business in the world caters to a particular type of traveler on my board. I approach the particular business, and for a fee, they pay for us to put a destination pin on the Google map. If any user can do the same thing, they can override our ability to charge a fee for the service we offer to the particular business to be listed on the map.

1. Put the data table (List Elements) in-line below the map, not on another page. In addition, as the filters are applied, update the map that would show above them.

2. Attachments. Allow for a third Tab to include attachments. I need the ability to allow a member the option of uploading a GPS file and would like to provide access to the GPS file along with the photos and such.

I had the same problem with the version number..I downloaded 1.0.4 update, yet the install said 1.0.3. The solution is in the xml.

Edit the xml in your favorite text editor and change the version to 1.0.4. Do a find on 1.0.3 to find the wrong code. Not surprisingly, the text you're looking for is just below that.

Edit the xml, save it, then reinstall the xml.

Very simple fix for those who are having probs seeing the menu in the admin cp.

1) Login to your FTP account and download your config.php file. You should find it in your includes directory.

2) Find the following:

Where is has the ID of the users allowed to view all admin areas make sure your user ID is there. If it not then add it like this:

See the difference?

Save the file and upload it into your includes directory after you delete the other config.php file. You should now see the menu right at the top of the menu now.

Installed and looking good.
Just one problem - No Markers!

I can add markers and they are listed in View Elements page fine.
Nothing is showing on the map.
All files are uploaded to the correct place and permissions are set correctly
The dashboard always says Current Markers 0 no matter how many are listed in View Elements.
We have the Members Edition which works no problem.

Any ideas?

We have the Members Edition which runs fine.
I notice that the members edition the markers don't show until the cron job runs.
The Hotspot edition has No Cron job to run. Is that right?

It's behaving like the Members edition if the cron job is not run.

Neither myne has cron job and works fine so i suppose it doesnt needed..... have you tried to make a new style with no parent and test there is Hotspot works? if yes then some addon does the trick to you.... if it works try to disable 1 by 1 the addons and see what causes the trouble... most of the times other addon code does the trouble in googlemap. Imagine that if i use any caching except memcache (i tried Xcache, Apc) googlemap in both editions when i click go to marker of something always goes to center of the map.... both stonyarc addons are great just need little adjustment to be more stable.

I have a problem now. I installed the googlemaps on a trial basis for a little while to see if it is what we like and need. Well we do like it a lot. However now I go to view the maps. And I get the page with the links at the top to add a marker and the about VBgooglemap, but the map itself does not show up.

I have tried to renew my key from google and that still didn't help. Even reinstalled VBgooglemaps and nothin.

Any suggestions?

Yes, you can setup group permissions from the admin console. This mod adds an extra section into the group editing page that allows you to switch the mod on/off for each group to allow or deny access, as well as many other settings such as the ability to add and edit markers.

Folks, I found in my custom skin, it was not working because there was a missing closed HTML tag... Take a close look at header and footer (good start point) and make sure for every starting tag there is a closed one.

Once you get them fixed, it will work. HTML Validators may help but may not catch everything.

Just by accident I figured out what happened. For some reason bitfields were updated when I checked one of the usergroups.

When you FTP into your vb dir using a ftp package then right click on spotmarkers.xml and set this to 777 (change file attributes or properties)

If you using multibyte language.
You can try this.
You can try iso-8859-7 or utf-8...etc.

1. vbgooglemaphse.php

find :

Just open and save as for ISO-8859-7 in your computer.

5. You need Verify spotmarkers.xml from your ftp account.

Just open spotmarkers.xml and find:
