Hey, before i install this i have a question. I'm sorry if this been asked already, but what if i just want to apply this to a certain forum? I have a classified section and before my members create a classified, i want them to understand the rules. Can this mod do that?
Thanks!!

I would suggest the ability to keep the user from viewing the forums until the rules are accepted. Thanks for this, it has been a big help!

This product raises the page generation time by 0.3~, which is quite a lot, with 3 new queries everytime a page is loaded.
I might install it again if this is optimized.

Great Hack, installed.
The Line:
$cyb_frules_link = '<td class=\"vbmenu_control\"><a href=\"misc.php?do=cfrules\">$vbphrase[cybfrules_rules]</a></td>';
Need to replace with:
$cyb_frules_link = "<td class=\"vbmenu_control\"><a href=\"misc.php?do=cfrules\">$vbphrase[cybfrules_rules]</a></td>";

Yes, when i did the test with a new user it was ok. But current members cannot send PMs due to no "Accept" button at the bottom of the rules. I had to put they're usergroups to exempt from confirming. This should be fixed as it's been reported from several members here.

Hi! I'm Zoints SEO user, and I need to report that this hack is't compatibile with this SEO software yet. When a user who has not accepted the rules before is beeing redirected to the rules page, it just continues to redirect to the same redirection page.
Hope you're going to fix it.
I'm not clicking installed yet :)

Good job Cybernetec, but I have a comment.
This problem I have reported it for you in your "Cyb - Advanced Forum Statistics" hack.
This problem is when using the align left or right and instead it's better to use $stylevar[left] or $stylevar[right]. this has a great effect on Arabic forums which has text with direction right to left.

v3.4 - Apr 22. 2007.
-Fixed bug where PMs can not be sent even Rules are accepted
-Fixed bug where Quick Reply does not work even Rules are accepted
-Improved counter and added ability to completely disable it (tested and worked on IE, Firefox, and Opera)
-Improved compatibility with right-to-left styles (note: in Rules use [right] tags anyway)
-Fixed navbar link
To upgrade: Import XML, allow overwrite.

Hmmm. I updated and reset acceptance status in my dev forum. Now if I have the View Forums option set to YES when accepting the rules, the screen reloads and takes me right back to the rules acceptance screen. It's in a loop, no way out if the rules have not been accepted yet. I uninstalled, reinstalled and still no different. I'm on VB 3.6.4, MY SQL 5.0.16 and PHP 5.2. Any suggestions?

When I install the product, without making any of the optional changes that are in the instructions, there's a link installed in my Quick Links that is both off to the side and the wrong color. How would I remedy this? I'd like it to just be in line with the rest of the links I have in the dropdown menu.
(I'd include a printscreen right now, but there's no photo editor on my work computer. If need be, I can post one when I get home in the morning.)
Edit: I hadn't looked at the admin options before. My apologies.
Very nice mod.

It's vBulletin phrase.
You can ask vBulletin why that happened.
You can add this phrase manually if you wish:
Email Body Text Phrases
warning_received_post
Dear $infraction[username], You have received a warning at $vboptions[bbtitle]. Reason: ------- $infraction[reason] $infraction[message] ------- Original Post: $infraction[post] $postinfo[pagetext] Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow. Hi,
I've the problem that I'm using a portal system where I have an overview of my forums, like a little Index. vBSeo rewrites the links in that index like this:
http://www.portugalforum.de/rechtliche-fragen-rund-um-portugal/
If you now use this link to look into the forum you have to accept the rules - but you don't want to write a posting in this moment.
Google tried to use this links and now in the search index the're a lot of "...please accept the rules ..." entries to my page ...
Any ideas?

So to post in forum number 8 the user must have agreed to the rules. However if they first try to post in forum 5 there will be no problem.

Hi,
Great idea but as many have asked does this allow you too add rules to certain forums. I only want to activated on my News and Politics forum. It has a seperate set of guidelines.
I saw the hack that did allow this has been sent to the graveyard.
Does anyone know or know of a hack that does have the funtionality I require.

The new 3.5.2 seems to have a bug in it - using a test account, I found that after the forum rules are accepted it doesn't redirect properly. I believe it's adding an extra amp; in the URL between the & and the subforum number for some reason, so you get an error saying 'invalid forum specified' when it tries to redirect.
/EDIT: When I searched for and removed the first five occurrences of amp; in the .xml file, and reimported it, it seems to work fine now. However I'm not sure if this opens up the exploit again or not.
/EDIT 2: This is on a VB 3.6.0 forum, so it may just be my VB version perhaps.

We changed the $vbphrase[cybfrules_not_agreed] Phrase and retested, now it works. maybe there was a hidden char in it which caused the error.

Love the hake HATE the green button. I just couldn't find the phrase mentioned so I went around it.
I turned off the link and added my own.
This one you can change the color to whatever you want. Not sure it it works with the other features of this hake but if you just want the link then try this.
I moved this over to the center right past the calendar but you can put it anywhere you want.
<td class="vb menu_control"><a href="LINK"><font color="#ff0000">Forum Rules</font>
</a></td>
This link is colored red but you can swap that for anything or just remove the color tags and you will get the standard button.

You could separate registration rules from posting/general rules for members.
For example leave default vBulletin rules to be accepted during registration, and uset this hack to list all important rules to be accepted before user start posting/sending PMs etc...

Good idea!
I leave the basic site rules on registration form (disclaim responsibility for messages, no double accounts etc ) and I use the Advanced Forum Rules System for the rules about Posting ;)

This modification only works with Internet Explorer. Members using Firefox will never see this modification. I'm not sure which part of the mod differs between the two browsers, but I've done extensive testing, and IE seems to be the only compatible browser. An update to encompass both browsers would be excellent.

In case others don't use the combination I'll post the same thing I did in the other thread. I ran a test on two different machines with identical results. Then I had someone on the other side of the globe (I'm in the U.S. and my tester is in Sweden) get identical results. If we used FF on the forums the modifications didn't work. If we used IE the modifications worked just fine.
I forced one of my moderators to read the rules and he could login and go about his business as long as he was using FF. As soon as he launched the forums in IE and logged in he was forced to read the rules. That's a pretty uncanny coincidence.

It is displayed to Mods & Admins. <if condition="can_moderate()"> used.
Only usergroups 5,6,7 (SuperMods, Admins, Mods) are able to reset acceptance status.
Please can you create temp admin account for me so I can check your forums. I need access to options/styles/products. Send me info via PMs.
It is not accurate, becouse only usergroups 5,6,7 (SuperMods, Admins, Mods) with setting "Can Moderate All Forums" set to Yes are able to reset acceptance status.
I have one usergroup of mods (without permissions to all forums - they have permissions only for specific forums) and they are not able to reset acceptance status for other users :-(.
If user X is in usergroup 5 (SuperMods, mentioned setting in admincp set to Yes), he has the option to reset. If I transfer him to usergroup 7 (Mods, mentioned setting to No), he has not the option to reset and if I set the mentioned setting to Yes (and he is still in usergroup 7), he has the option to reset suddenly. So I verified that mentioned setting make difference in this.
Is it possible to change it somehow? I would like to give to mods option to reset acceptance status too (but I don't want to give them permission to all forums, becouse in that case they will be SuperMods too).
BTW: I like your mods and especially your support to them over time!

This sounds similar to my problem, except that my tests have shown that only IE users get the message. However, I have not seen other people mention that they haven't received the notice.
One thing to do in order to test the mod is to create a test user, force the user to accept the rules, then login as the user. You should be able to see it in action this way.

Cybernetec, can you move, please,
$cyb_frules_link = "<td class=\"vbmenu_control\"><a href=\"misc.php?do=cfrules\">".$vbphrase['cybfrules_rules']."</a></td>";
to a separate template, for example cybfrules_navbar_link
For example as it was done in vBulletin's Blogs.
Template blog_navbar_link
This will allow as to modify cybfrules_navbar_link for each style separately! For example some styles will have image before words "Forum Rules" and others not.

Cybernetec,
1.
Why you don't replace (I checked it works in this way)
value=\"Reset Acceptance Status For All Members\"
with this one
value=\"$vbphrase[cybfrules_resetall]\"
+
<phrase name="cybfrules_resetall" username="Cybernetec"><![CDATA[Reset Acceptance Status For All Members]]></phrase>
2.
This one code:
<optioncode><![CDATA[
<a href=\"../misc.php?do=cfrresetall\"><input type=\"submit\" name=\"cyb_reset_all\" value=\"Reset Acceptance Status For All Members\" /></a>]]></optioncode>
Doesn't work in IE 7.*.
Works in Opera 9.* and in FireFox 2.*
Why you not to use something like:
<optioncode><![CDATA[
<form method=\"GET\" action=\"misc.php\">
<input type=\"submit\" name=\"cyb_reset_all\" value=\"$vbphrase[cybfrules_resetall]\"><input type=\"hidden\" name=\"do\" value=\"cfrresetall\">
</form>]]></optioncode>
This one works everywhere, I checked.
3.
Also when I press this button in Opera or Firefox an "empty" page is opened (with out any information).
71405
When to open URL by hands I get the same "empty" page.
http://my.forum.123/admincp/misc.php?do=cfrresetall

1. Should be changed.
2. Confirmed (does not work in bloody IE)
3. No bug here. It seems you have tested it using your custom code.
It's:

NOT:
FORUM/admincp/misc.php?do=cfrresetall
With original code it works fine.

Here are the code changes we made to make this work. Feel free to use this cyb if you have something better always appreciated. We are not javascript pros.

function Cafr_checkAgree(){
cafr_agree = fetch_object('cafr_agree');
if (cafr_agree.checked == false) {
alert("$vbphrase[cybfrules_not_agreed]");
return false;
} else {

}
Change to
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
function Cafr_checkAgree(){
if (document.getElementById('cafr_agree').checked == false) {
alert("$vbphrase[cybfrules_not_agreed]");
return false;
} else {
return true;

When I installed this in 3.6.8 I didn't get Note 1 or Note 2 appearing. Also, your instructions for the navbar insert need to be more detailed. Once I activated the mass forum reacceptance of the rules everyone was redirected to the rules page but no ACCEPT button was visible. I found that it interfered with cyb-advanced forum statistics, so I disabled that.
I had to uninstall this product.
Can you please provide me with a link to version 3.1 which seemed to be working fine for me?

Mate you're welcome to use mine and modify to suit your board. I think we all have done that when first starting up a board. Just click the forum rules in the side column. :)

It returned an JS error when you've already agreed the rules that said that Carf_buttonCounter was not found. To fix this, just edit in template cyb_frules:
Replace
<body onload="Cafr_buttonCounter();">
with
<body<if condition="(!$cfrulesagreed AND $cfrshowaccform)"> onload="Cafr_buttonCounter();"</if>>

This works well in vb 3.7 B4.
Cancel that the Forum Rules link does not appear in the navbar automatically nor does it appear in the members profile...
You need to insert $cyb_frules_force in the MEMBERINFO template just like before.When you do that it will work fine.
For some reason it stopped working in Firefox.
It works fine in IE and Opera.
I'll fix this later...
Has this been fixed?
I want to implement a forum rules force with every infraction or warning given. Can you please advise on what code I can use to do this? This would really help lessen the workload for my staff. Would you be willing to implement this function into your addon?

Because it took me nearly 2 hours to parse through the old posts and figure out which ones were out of date and finally resolve this issue (why the creator doesn't just remove the code from the install himself is any body's guess, or spent 5 mins creating a simple outline like this to include in the install notes), I created a simple fix for this.
This was done for a vBulletin 3.6.8 install and using Cyb Advanced Forum Rules 3.6
1. After install, click on "Languages & Phrases" in the left nav of AdminCP
Click "Search in Phrases"
In Search for Test enter "font"
in Product Drop down: select "Cyb - Advanced Forum Rules"
Click Find
Search results will spit out the following:
"cybfrules_rules Standard Phrase <font color="#66ff00">Forum Rules</font>"
Click Edit button
Click Copy Default Text button, remove font tags, so only "Forum Rules" is left, click save
Alternatively you could just copy and paste "Forum Rules" (without the quotes) into the English (US) Translation text box.
Click Save
Done.

Thanks, done. I didn't mind the green too much until I finally settled on a default forum skin for a new vb and only later found out the colors clashed.

All text added with any of my hacks is stored in phrases. So if you want to remove/translate/change anything just search for it in Phrase Manager.
For example you want to change "Forum Rules" color:
-Go to "Phrase Manager"
-Search for "Forum Rules"
-Open for editing phrase where you see FONT tags (phrase name: "cybfrules_rules")
-Remove tags, or change color, or make translations, then save...
This has been explained a million of times.
Videx
02-16-2008, 09:25 AM
I'm sure it has, but if that's the case, why not put that paragraph up in the initial post right next to the installation instructions where it's easy to find? Be lots easier than re-explaining it a million times. You could remove the long version history to make room.
Then again, I wonder how difficult it might be to add an option to change the link color?
MdrNate
02-16-2008, 11:23 AM
I totally agree. Anytime someone says they've explained it a million times it makes me wonder why. Usually it's because the explanations are either hard to find or are difficult to understand. In this situation it's both. I'm new to vBulletin, but I've installed over 10 hacks in 4 days, this was the first hack that I needed to use the Phrase Manager.
I'd vote to have the "stupid simple" instructions put in the downloaded instructions txt file or on the front page, it's one of the most asked questions what's the resistance to adding it early so you never have to answer it again?

If you need this extension and want to get it running like normal
open misc.php
get to line 18
change define('CSRF_PROTECTION', true);
to define('CSRF_PROTECTION', false);
BUT,this will turn the security for this script off, so think twice about it

OK...I don't think you understood quite what I was asking. I have many different forums on my vBulletin, and I want to set something up where I can have separate rules for each forum, so that when they go to that forum they have to click through the permissions page, which is separate per forum.
Example:
Forum 1 has rules A, B, C, and D. I want users accessing this forum have to "accept" rules A, B, C, and D when they try to enter that forum.
Forum 2 has rules E, F, and G. I want users accessing THIS forum to have to "accept" these rules, which are specific to FORUM 2.
Make sense??

Quick answer. NO it does not do what you are asking.
Videx
04-28-2008, 09:13 PM
We're getting confused by semantics here. If you have completely different forums as in separate vBulletin licenses, installed to different locations, then yes, each forum can have it's own set of rules.
If it's the same forum (you only have one vBulletin license), then you only get one set of rules, and you just have to word them to specify different regulations for different locations. In this case, this mod will not allow you to force acceptance of more than one set of rules.

Total sense! :up: THAT would be something I would like to have too!
I run a board with several different sub-forums, where the rules are quite different from each-other. So this would be the best 'upgrade' for this hack...! ;)

Yep, my case is ONLY ONE vbulletin licence with several sub-forums that have different rules.
This Mod would be JUST PERFECT if we could specify what forums do we want to users accept the rules, with different text for sub-forums "A" and sub-forums "B".
:eek: Also, the perfect 'mod' to this mod, would be the possibility for us to choose the rules text from a previous post inside our forums. :) That would just be PERFECT! :up:
I guess that this would be just easy for the author to code, as each post has a specific and individual URL inside vbulletin, so this specific URL would be the text to show up when the users try to post messages and must accept the rules. How about this idea? :rolleyes:

I run a board with several different sub-forums, where the rules are quite different from each-other.Somehow I doubt that, but being the inquisitive type, please tell me how.
And tell me why you would go to the trouble of coding separate rules, rather than just including them all in the main rules e.g.:
"Don't post porn anywhere but in Category xxx", "No flaming in any subforum except Flamez", etc.
