Info:
This plugin is useful when you have big number of sub-forums. It arranges them into columns. You can easily choose number of columns (1 to 7) to arange sub-forums into. There are options to enable/disable hack, exclude forums, enlarge font for sub-forums titles, hide commas, hide "Sub-Forums" phrase, show thread/reply counts, and more...


Installation:
-Import XML file (as product): AdminCP > Plugin System > Manage Products > [Add/Import Product]


Notes:
-To get this hack working you must set "Depth of Sub-Forums" to "1" in vBulletin Options > Forum Listings Display Options
-To set hack options go to: AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Cyb - Sub-Forum Manager

This hack is great, but I see one problem.

When I chose numbers of colmns, for example 4, if I have 6 items to show, second row has only two (6-4=2) td tags and layout on IE acts weird. If you could add the rest cells filled with  , your hack will be perfect.

This is a great hack. Cleaned up my ever-growing forum nicely.

I'd like to suggest an addition to this hack that I think would be nice. Allow the number of threads to be visible next to each sub forum.

rather than:
sub-forum A
sub-forum B

have:
sub-forum A (45)
sub-forum B (37)

I tried v1.8. The new features works but it increased the vertical space between the subforums in a column even with the thread and reply count off which it did not do in the previous version.

Wow, thanks for including my suggestion! However the upgrade isn't working properly. The only setting that works is the "Custom attributes - Enable" setting. Everything else is unresponsive. I can't change table rows, enable thread #s, etc. (edit) Never mind, it works. I just realized that the color you chose for the thread/replies is very very close to my background color. It was just hidden.

Installed the update, and it works very well, other then number of columns doesn't seem to work if you choose 2. If I choose 1, I get 1, if I choose 2, I get 1, and if I choose 3, I get 3. So something doesn't appear to be correct with the columns = 2.

Thats exact what I wanted to say. Tha would be great, I have a lot of Links, but many more Subforums. ;)

And I found a Bug.

If I enter some Forum in Exclude, this Subforums were not shown in Columns, but also the extra Style is used and the Thread/Post Count is also shown up.

I know this says for forum home, but on forumdisplay it arranges them in subcolumns as well. However, on forumdisplay it bunches them more closely together even though there is room for the subforums to be listed more organized (like on forumhome)

With commas enabled, it looks like there is both a trailing and a leading space ( text_,_icon ). The initial space should not be there.

Thanks for an excellent hack. This was by far the best hack I've installed out of the 73 I currently have! Keep up the good work!

I do have one slight problem, though. If you look at my test forums, http://test2.prophecy.co.za, you'll see that there is this weird line break after the first subforum, if I have the settings set to use more than one column. On the settings set to use only one column, all the subforums has line breaks after them, which I think is also wrong, looking at your live demo.

I also attach a screenshot of the line break in 3 column mode, as well as single column mode.

hey klaymen I had the same problem. I fixed it by making the forum name longer (I just added a bunch of nonbreaking spaces, &nbsp;, to make the forum name long and then it extends the subforums accordingly.)

Yes, it's another modification (not released here). It means 10 latest updated threads.

I would release it but it's little tricky to set it up. For every forum with sub-forums I've created separate product where you set target forum (where last x threads will be shown instead of last post info) and subforums IDs from where latest threads are listed.

OK, everything seems to work fine in this mod, except for the fact that it doesn't put it in columns. Any ideas ? I set the subforum depth to 1. Check it out here (http://www.orchidboard.com/community/). No matter what I do, I get one column, with the bullets. How do I ditch the bullets ?

I could not unstuff/unzip the download file using my Macintosh, however. (I get an error message.) I had to use my PC for this instead.

hey klaymen I had the same problem. I fixed it by making the forum name longer (I just added a bunch of nonbreaking spaces, &nbsp;, to make the forum name long and then it extends the subforums accordingly.)

I haven't planned to do any function upgrades in the near future because I'm very busy. Atm I'm only ready to fix bugs if any of them are found in my hacks.

Thank you for the reply - I did change the settings yes - everything except for the columns is working, the post count/reply count shows if enabled, the sub forums is hidden if enabled, everything but the columns.

I think you had to go to :
-Vbulletin Options
-Forums listing display options
-And the setting for that should be:
+Depth of Forums - Forum Home = 2

As I see your sreen shot ..your depth of sub-forums is 1 ...you should change it to 2 ...then it's should work fine .

Check all that options ...It's may fix your problem .

You should consider adding icon control as well for the sub-forums, would be kewl to have the ability to change the icons for each sub-folder as well as the ability to change how they're listed/shown.

Yeah I have never been able to get this to work either, I have posted multiple times but no matter what I change, if I disable, I enable, I change the settings, there are absolutely no changes to the forum output.

For those wanting it in forumdisplay.. Just change the "Depth of Forums - Forum Display" option to 1.

However, This doesn't quite display correctly if you have "Act as a Forum" set to "No" for the subforum when you have:

Parent Forum -> Child Forum -> Subforum (that only acts as a category) -> More Subforums -> Threads.

If you have a setup like this, adding the $forumid to "Exclude Forum" in the Subforum Manager doesn't work either... and I'm not sure why.

I included an image of how it doesn't display correctly. 61912
Notice that it uses the "tcat" class, and also has the collapse button which is not needed since nothing will be displaying under it.

Fixing these few things is simple:

Open forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost and find:<tbody>

Note: If you ever change your Forumdisplay depth back to 2, you should delete this conditional, or you won't be able to collapse/expand your Subforums.

It should now look like this:61913

Not done yet! If you want to fix that column spacing, add the $forumid of that subforum to the "Forum Exclude" in the Subforum Manager. The columns will now space the same as Subforum (Act as forum) in the attached pictures.

I haven't tested this thoroughly, but I haven't had problems either.

If it's not working, make sure the $forumid's you are using are the actual $forumid's of the subforum.. i.e. "Test Subforum (Category Only)" in the images.

Also, if ALL of the subforums you have are "Category Only" you may want to get rid of the table with the Forum, Last Post, Threads, and Posts for that forum, since it won't display post counts, etc.

Edit: For some reason "Exclude Forums" doesn't work at all on my forum... It just makes the columns closer together.. does this happen for anyone else?

Edit: Nevermind. I understand what the Exclude is for now. I thought it HID the subforums entirely. It just gets rid of the column formatting. :)

I have over 140 forums tightly organized to keep each category index from scrolling for miles. I could shrink it back to Cat-Forum-Subforum, but the index would be ungodly long.

Subcategories currently look hideous no matter what I do. I've been forced to change some subcategory levels (alternating) into closed forums with open subforums so that at least some of the indexes look as intended. I end up with the following:

I know it looks strange, and I don't like it either, but the result is that only every other level looks messed up (the "bad" levels do not display in columns as expected). It's the best I can do to make it partially presentable. It's almost like there needs to be a way to set the display such that subcategories receive subforum style treatment when they are beneath the current view level instead of category styles, and to be able to force the beautiful column format at every level, no matter how deep.

I've tried tinkering with various combinations of the following settings:
Depth of Forums - Forum Home: 2
Depth of Forums - Forum Display: 2
Depth of Sub-Forums: 1

Anything but this breaks everything and looks even worse.

I guess my question is, has anyone else found a fix for this. I tried the hacks above, and they didn't help. The problem got worse. Will the upcoming update fix these issues? If so, please tell me it's coming soon. I'd be happy to beta test it... :D

If I mark a forum to be left alone, it's adding cybernetec after the forum name now.

It looks like:

-Fixed bug where excluded forums shows "Cybernetec" between sub-forums

Please all upgrade to v2.4 as this is bug from v2.2 and two important bugs was fixed in v2.3.
