I haven't read through all of the thread, but I'm assuming that there is some sort of protection keeping admins from logging in as other admins...would I be correct in that assumption?

Still doesnt work. Updated to latest version. I dont have the option in Admin Usergroup permission. I see nothing related to this mod.

I give up.

Same here. Was running 2.1 which worked fine for me. vBulletin 3.68. Upgraded to 2.4 - no log-in links anywhere. Reverted back to 2.1. Working fine again.

It seems whatever you did between 2.1 and 2.4 broke it.

Hi, Abe.

I've installed the XML files, and have done the template modifications. I still do not see this option when I look at a user's profile -- even when I'm logged in as an administrator.

Is there an option I have to set in my control panel for this option to appear?

Thanks,

Chase

Same happened to me after the update, you have to edit your administrator permissions (Admincp > Usergroups > Administrator Permissions > Edit Permissions> Can Log in as Another User = yes) in order to be able to see the option.

Actually, you dont know how to read is more like it. A few post up from when you guys made a post said exactly how to do it. In my release info it says it mildly.

You guys asked me for a way to control who can use it, I gave it to you and seem like you dont even know how to use the vB back end.

No-one else sees you logged in. It is just the way vb works. it puts your username at the beg. of the list. If you look at the user after you log-out, you will see that they had not just logged in.

Thank you. In my defense, (1) the post that explained where to set the permissions came after my post; (2) the instructions included in the zip file make no mention of the settings; and (3) I expected to find options under Admin CP | vBulletin options as is customary.

You are correct. Once the permissions are set, it works as it did in previous versions.

You might want to update the instructions included in the zip file (the filename is mispelled as "insructions.txt" by the way).

I'm a super admin, yet for me it doesn't show up, while for the board's two admins it does (I'm actually a tech :-p) and that was even before one of them was made into a superadmin. So the question is - what is wrong with me then? Any ideas? As it would really help if I could log into random accounts to do testing and not having to create a separate account so then I could keep logging in an out...

Talk to your other admins. It sounds like they haven't given you permission to log in as another user, assuming you're using the latest version.

That's not where you should set your administrator permissions from. You are doing it via the usergroup manager, but it should be done via administrator permissions (the last option from the "usersgroups" menu. You have to set it individually, for each admin:

Hi there Abe1 .... this is one of my favourite MODs! My only suggestion is to include the above tip regarding changing permissions in your instructions and first post. That way, administrators won't need to trawl through all the posts to find out what to do when it doesn't work! Thanks again, twobob

Nice hack but I don't like to make template edits if not necessary.
There was once a hack, which allowed you to login as a user too, but only from within the ACP. It only placed a "login as user" piece under "users" in the ACP.
An admin could then fill in the username and click "go" or login or something like that.

I think this hack was maybe in a 2.x version I don't remember really.

Is your hack easy to adjust to only do this? And if yes, how is it done?

Two questions:

1 - When logged in as the user, can you read their PMs and post as them?
2 - Will this mess up the "view new posts" feature? Wont they notice someone has been in their account?

2) Do the template edits

in header:

but what if you dont have that then where do you place the command?

Found the answer

ok instead of <!-logo-> if you dont have it use <!-Header-> and place the edit there. I checked it and it works fine.

This option is in AdminCP -> Usergroups -> Administrator Permissions -> Can Log in as Another User yes/no

I find this tool to be incredibly useful. It seems I want to do things the admin panel does not yet provide, and this is a great work around. For example, I recently created a usergroup for which all members want to be subscribed to their own forum. Unless I just can't find it, there is no way to automatically subscribe members of a particular usergroup to a particular forum. Since many of the users are not familiar with vbulletin conventions, rather than wait for them to get up to speed, the fastest way to get this up and running was to login as each user in the group and subcribe them to their forum. A bit clunky, but without this mod, it would be even more difficult. Now they can immediately get daily digests and focus on creating content rather than having to learn how to subscribe to their forum.

Thanks for this mod!

Any reason you can think of why it would ask me to log off as the user more than once to clear the warning "bar" at the top? Clicking once appears to log me back into the admin account, but the bar doesn't clear until it's hit again.

Thanks for this mod, quite useful to help our members "fix" things in thier accounts.
