View Full Version : Question on Adding a Column for Icons

I've searched the board for an answer, but found nothing satisfactory....yet ;) .

There is a thread here with a link posted for a modification/plugin, unfortunately there seems to be some issues with 3.5.4

It would be my guess that the columns can be added to the forums home page using CSS. Although I'm not all that familiar with CSS, I am willing to give it a go (on my test site first of course).
My problem is finding the correct template(s) to edit.
Can someone direct me to the right template(s)?

Here is what I would like to do:

1. Add a column to show different icons for each of the forums found in the various catagories.... (i.e. earth icon for news section... clown icon for the jokes section ect..ect.)

2. Link those icons to it's respective forum.

Thank You in advance.
Respectfully,
WR

You're opening up a can of worms and it depends highly on what exactly you are trying to do (in your case where you're trying to add the column) but generally speaking you'll need to look at:

Forumhome
Forumdisplay
Forumbits (all)
Search results
threadbits

Sorry for not getting back here earlier m8, I've been looking on the wrong board. I thought I posted this on the .com site.

Anyway, What I'm trying to do is create a column for icons, a different icon for each forum. I've seen a hack for it, but I'm not entirely sure of it's stability. It appears to be working on some, and not others.
I figure I can add a column, and rows for each of the forums. Might as well give it a go, then to wish I had.

I have a test site set up, I'm installing the same hacks on it now. Just to keep things reading the same when I succeed.

I'll have a look at those templates you suggested.
Thank You Bubble #5....
*crosses fingers and heads for the text editor :D

No problem. Glad to help :) Just keep in mind that sometimes when you alter one template, it effects another, so do a thorough test of your forum afterward ;)
