View Full Version : 18 and over ONLY
I'm running vb 3.54 soon 3.6. I'm interested in a hack so that a new user has to enter a birthday which makes them at least 18 years at time of signup. I had one that worked for 3.09, but it does not work with the latest release of vb.

I know theres a age hack, this hack prevents what ever age you set to enter the forums, not sure about registering though
You have my curiosity up. How could it work then if not figureing out the age when registering?
Thanks for the reply!

wouldnt really work IMO, they could just press back and change their date of birth to show theyre 18
But, at least they are 'saying' they are 18. That is all I'm after. I understand the work arounds. Now I police it manually and that's no fun.

ORP, which modification are you using on 3.0.9? Is it the one where the COPPA System is changed to 18 instead of 13 and deny all registrations under 18 set that way? If so, it should be a nice easy port.

Yes, that is the one. I asked about having it ported for 3.5 but never thought it was done. I don't know how ....but willing to learn if you want to tell me ....
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that it could have been one of mine, so I'll rumble it up for you later. I'll just do a basic one though as I've never got all the bells and whistles of it to work in 3.5 and upwards
Awesome! Thanks peterska2!!!!!!!
Please post a link here and I'll be glad to try it out and report back. Basic is fine. Sure better than manually doing it.
edit ....I should have said thanks Kerry-Anne. I didn't notice your name until just now. :o

At the moment it is only tested on 3.5.4 and I haven't released it here.
Feel free to drop me a PM about it though.

I'm curious about this as well. I've been wanting one that will not let anyone under 18 Register on my site. The only hacks I find either dno't work 100% or allow registration but they can't view the forum. Neither which I want :|

I have got a 3.6.0 version in development although it has been out on hold due to some other work which I want to get completed first.
For more details about the 3.5.4 version (free, don't worry ;)) drop me a PM.

If he's changing to 3.6.x the cookie feature used to ensure this doesn't happen for the COPPA could be used in preventing under 18s.

Hence why I'm still developing the 3.6.0 version. I want to make sure it works perfectly in my test environment before even declaring it a beta.
