Upper limit for number of forums?

Hi all. I own a vBulletin site about travel and I want to greatly expand the number of forums and subforums I'm currently offering.

Is there an upper limit to the number of forums vBulletin can handle before performance becomes an issue? How many forums do some other sites have? 100? 1,000? 10,000?

I wouldn't go more than 1000 in total as it tends to get into dodgy teritory after this. You would be best asking at vB.com as there you will be able to get the official answer.
