I know a few people are going to give me some dirty glances for this one but...
To prevent people from artificially rating their hack/mod/whatever higher then it would be naturally by the community a suggestion is to prevent users from rating their own threads.

Rating or clicking Install?
I doubt many people are looking at the ratings. I think most of my hacks where never rated by anyone (or the occsional joker that already gave the lowest rating within 5 minutes from release, with still no installs)

Remember, your personal experiences with the ratings system isn't necessarily the same as everybody elses. ;)

Does anyone actually use the ratings as a guide ? - all you actually get is a few stars - no comments or anything useful. I think people look at the install count, author, and read the thread for potential problems. I seriously doubt anyone makes a decision based on the rating.
Just an example - but "FlashChat - Who is in the chat" has no ratings at all, yet 700 installs, rising daily. :)

<sigh>
Never mind this suggestion. There's obviously no point in going into it.

I, for one, always look at both the rating and install count...I think it's a good suggestion.

I do look at the rating, but disagree with not allowing the hack/thread creators to rate themselves -- I think they have just as much a right as anyone else.

Hmmm i doubt most authors would give their own work an honest rating.

I agree, I never look at the rating. As far as clicking install on your own hacks I think if you use it on your site you have every right to click install. ;)
