Adding-to and Reading User Cookie Data

I am trying to create a mod that plugs into a 3rd party API. This API requires user login details and then returns a SID code for you to includ in all future requests. I was wondering if its possible to put and later retrieve this SID code from the users vBulletin cookie so they only have to login into the service once?
