Yes, it covers all the server costs, and a few competitions as well.

I have it and plan on using it whenever I get a new site opened up.
No. I used to, but some ********* clicked on my ads thousands of times in one day, leading the lovely Google to ban me. :(

its overrated. CTR on my forums was so horrible i just removed them cause it wasnt even worth listening to members complain about seeing two advertisements

I just put some on my site and I have made a whopping $0.49 LOL
I am honestly not sure about it yet. Still trying to figure it all out, like how to make the advertising match my site, colors, styles, etc. My members haven't had any bad comments about it yet, although I only have a few of them on there.

Same happened to me. :(
Since then I've tried a couple of other schemes but in the end have reverted to no ads.

When you see an extra increase in the clicks, you must send an e-mail to adsense support (or smt like that), stating this sudden increase. That will help avoiding you from banning

You'd think so.
Not so in my case. I got back from visiting relatives to find that it had happened a few days prior. Too late I guess.

Yes, I am sorry for that.
But possible future bannings might be avoided like that. Just in case, you should immediately report the sudden increase in your adsense clicks, including that you have no idea about that. Before getting banned.
And about the subject of this thread, I used to have adsense in my forum but now I removed them. Cos I am running a Turkish language information security forum, and everybody uses adblockers. And Turkish language doesnt make much money in adsense. I used adsense for 7-8 months and never saw more than 1 cent per click. So I removed them.

I have ads in a few places. I use a plugin for ads in randoms spots between posts. Nobody has complained yet. It more than pays for my dedicated server expense.
Most of my adsense clicks come from an adsense leaderboard centered under the navbar viewable to guests only. My adsense revenue more than doubled after I added it.

Using it. Making enough money to cover my server expenses. Might aswell think about going dedicated if things continue like this. :)

I use them in a few different spots on my forums... showthread, forum home and forumdisplay (towards the bottom on all of them). It doesn't bring in much, but it brings in a few bucks here and there that goes towards helping me pay for hosting. I have them set up so only guests and nonpaid members see them. Membership on the forums is $20 a year and buys you ad-free plus several other perks. :) I do try to make the ads as least obtrusive as possible. I have found that putting them towards the bottom of the thread by quick reply helps a good bit. People see it when they reply and it's relevant to the thread content. :)

Yup, I've got it and have been using it for a long time. Very good if you have lots of traffic and need to generate revenue.

I also used to use em, but like others, also for me some members started to macro click (gave a nice revenue for a few days, sadly they didn't pay it out), but resulted into a ban as well.
Haven't been able to find a programme that pays as good as Google's since then, using Clicksor for a while now, but they require 50% English traffic, so I've got to block them from a big part of my visitors.

I have the ads on my site/forums but none of them are geared to what the pages contain (like google says it should) they're all generic to hosting. I'm using vb 3.0.14. Any ideas why this is happening?

IF you place them in a better location, clicks and revenue should go up, the footer is probably the worst place to have the ads displayed.

but if you have them in a more obvious location you might lose member or you won't get some since quite a lot of people are annoyed by ads imho

I'm just doing text ads, no image ads. Ive got ads on the main vbadvanced page and one on forum view and thread view. I also recently added one to the footer (which oddly enough is properly displaying relevant ads to the site).
I don't have to worry too much about losing potential members to my site because the site is not the only service that's offered to my community; there's also a community clan as well as game server(s).

I use them, never had anyone complain about them. It's a decent income...
I believe if your forum is based around a product, your CTR should be higher.... as ive heard forums ctr's are horrible...
Fatal.

I am doing fairly well after I changed around my positioning. I am not ashamed to admit it, I snatched my positioning from that vBwebmaster site cause I thought it looks amazing blended in over the top like that..and I love it :). It even seems to get alot more clicks because of it as well. Thanks Joey ;).

I had adsense on my server, but since have taken it off. I find that although it may be harder, trying to sell space on your site is better. I also recommend CJ.com if you have a site that is more focused. I have a sports card forum and ebay advertising through adsense is paying for my hosting easily.
hmm had in my site to...
google said...invalid cliks of the adds..so finally they terminate our account..but as i found theres no invalid clic being generate by any of us...
i appeal against it & browse there blog..finally i found they only give pryority to the TOP Top publisher.

It brings me in $30-$40 a month, it's enough to cover my costs and have enough left over for 4 Jack-in-The-Box Tacos!

This is only my opinion, but it is garbage. Why force your member's to see advertisement from google? If people wanted to know if something was for sale, they would do a google search themselve's. The only one's that are really making any money off of this type of sale's tactic, is google.
I for one think this is a terrible thing that has happened to our board's and wish it would stop. Money or no money.......
