Redirect to Forum after Posting
Version 1.0

What does this do?
This little mod will redirect you back to the forum when you post a New Thread. The default behaviour is to redirect you to the thread that you have just posted, which never made much sense to me - you've just posted it, why do you need to see it? :)

Sounds Great! How do I install?
Installation couldn't be easier. Unzip the attached ZIP file and import the Product XML to your AdminCP as normal. - it adds 1 plugin :)

Important: Unfortunately, my leased vBulletin licence has now expired, and I won't be renewing it until September which means I will be unable to reply to this thread, or update this mod until then. I'm hopeful that the great vBulletin.org community will step in to answer any questions in my absence though :) See you all in early September! :D

Why should the members bien redirected to another forum ? Don't they need to look at there threads or post after submitting it ! .

When I post a thread, I don't then re-read it after I've posted it :) I post it then go straight back to the forum again to continue reading/posting :)

Thanks,
Alan.

will this work on 3.5.4?

and thanks, this is the what ive been looking for. i see no reason to be redirected back to the post a user just made. i think the user should be redirected back to the forum they were posting in.

Edit: Sorry, this doesn't work on 3.5.4 - only 3.6 or above :)

Thanks,
Alan.

I think the idea of redirecting back to the thread itself is so you can see if you made any mistakes, i know thats come in handy for me plenty of times. Either or nice job :P.

*edit*

ok i got it. im tired today, lol.

thanks for doing this. a lot of users arent worried about a small spelling mistake or two. but this takes away one step the user has to go thru to get back to the forums.

Hi Patrickstar,

If you trying to install this mod, do the following:

1) Download and unzip the attached zip file ^^^
2) Open your AdminCP
3) Go to the Product Manager
4) Click on Add/Import Product
5) Click Browse and find the XML file that was unziped in Step 1
5) Click OK a few times and it will install it for you
6) All done! :)

Thanks,
Alan.

Patrickstar: If you can give me the link to your forum, I'll take a look.

Is it enabled? Check in the Plugin Manager for "Redirect to forum instead of thread" which uses the newthread_post_complete hook and make sure it's enabled.

Thanks,
Alan.

Are you certain your upload this hack? This hack doesn't touch the database at all :)

When you get that message, right click on the page and click View Source - it will show a details MySQL error in there - copy and paste that into this thread :)

Also, remove it from the Product Manager, and try installing it again

Thanks,
Alan.

im cursed! lol for some reason i have the hardest time doing the simplest tasks with vb.

ok i went to product manager--->add/import product--->browse---attached xml file--->import.

then i get that message and also this:

Database error in vBulletin 3.5.4:

Invalid SQL:

### INSERT QUERY GENERATED BY fetch_query_sql() ###
INSERT INTO plugin
(`active`, `executionorder`, `title`, `hookname`, `phpcode`, `product`)
VALUES
('1', '5', 'Redirect to forum instead of thread', 'newthread_post_complete', 'if ((!$newpost[\'postpoll\']) AND ($newpost[\'visible\']))\r\n{\r\n $vbulletin->url = \'forumdisplay.php?\' . $vbulletin->session->vars[\'sessionurl\'] . \"f=$foruminfo[forumid]\";\r\n eval(print_standard_redirect(\'redirect_postthanks \', true, true));\r\n}', 'cit_newpost_forum_redirec');

MySQL Error : Unknown column 'executionorder' in 'field list'
Error Number : 1054
Date : Sunday, June 18th 2006 @ 07:45:02 PM

Referrer : http://www.fitnessandbeyond.net/Forums/admincp/plugin.php?do=productadd

so i hit the refresh like it says. it is in the product manager and editable, but not in the plug in manager.

i know older versions of vb are doing this but i cant find any thread on it whatsoever.

thanks anyways.

oh and one last simple question thats been bother me and off topic, do i have to install something from ImageMagick onto my server if i want to use them for custom avatars? im thinking yes.

Nice hack, any chance on making it forum specific? I have a couple forums that would benifit but for the most part, my members like the redirect back to the thread..

Great idea though

When I post a thread, I don't then re-read it after I've posted it :) I post it then go straight back to the forum again to continue reading/posting :)

Thanks,
Alan.

Ive only tried one other install of an extra and it was awful. So I was quite nervous. Yours was LOVELY - so simple and it just does what it says on the tin!

Thank you so much that return to post thing was driving me bonkers!

Ok, I can get it to return me to the forum after posting a new thread, but not after I reply. I guess I have to look for that hack :p

Hi,

i know that Alan @ CIT's license has expired so i hope, that someone else can help.

I've tested this and it woks fine but it doesn't redirect after adding a vote, that doesn't make sense.

My Question: How do i get this thing redirect after adding a vote?

Greetings,
Florian

a lot of people may not appreciate this hack but i do. its convenient to the members. for me its annoying being redirected back to your own post. so what is there are spelling errors.

thanks for the hack.
