View Full Version : Mini Mods - easyFeedback - How do your users rate your community?

Hello there!

I recently stumbled across a nice little script made by Ahmed Farooq
of www.iBegin.com (http://www.iBegin.com)

He had the idea to make a small floating layer in which users can easily rate a website. I had a quick look at it and decided to port it to vB3.6b1 (and I'll update it as soon as a new version of vBulletin comes out ;))

Here is what it does:

It adds a floating button to the lower right side of your forums which stays there even when you scroll down or up - cool, eh? ;)
49305

When you hover over that button a new layer comes up where you can select a number from 5 to 1 which reflects what you think about the community.
49306

After submitting the layer AND the button removes itself, a cookie saves that you have already gave your feedback and that button will never come up again.

Finally, on you frontpage you have a little message telling your users about the rating:
49307

The design of the popup can easily be changed using the provided CSS file. You can also use your own image as a button. I didn't try it but it should be possible. :)

Installation:
This one uses the plugin system. It comes as a product which does most of the work for you. However, you still have to edit the templates manually as well as copying 3 files to different folders.

The database manipulation is all done by the product manager. It will even uninstall all changes for you if you don't want to have this Add-on anymore. :)

Live demo:
See the script working here: http://www.ibegin.com/feedback/feedback-test.html
It works exactly the same as this Add-on. :)

Important:
As said above, the original script is by Ahmed Farooq
of www.iBegin.com (http://www.iBegin.com) but I will try to support the Javascript part of this Add-On as good as I can.

BACKUP:
Don't trust the German guy :D - ALWAYS do a BACKUP BEFORE you install an Add-on!

ENJOY!

does it disapear once a user has voted as you dont want them to multivote as that would be defeating the object ???

That is the reason, yes! :)

The Chief: Have you installed it? Don't forget to click 'install' as you'll get notified when I update the Add-on. :)

Good to see you here! :)

I've been here for ages - mostly just posting templates. We do a lot of stuff :)

So if they clear their cookies, will the feedback link come back up again, allowing multiple votes?

I'm getting that, too.
mcyates, which version of vB are you using?
I think this worked for vB 3.6.0 RC1, maybe not RC2 or RC3.

Sorry my license expired and I couldn't test it with RC2 or RC3.

I tested it on RC1 and it worked.. Give me some hours of sleep, I am just back home from vacation. I made a note on my screen just in case I forget to test it. :)

I think it would be more benficial if you had the same mod, but when you hover over the 'feedback' button, it gives you a text box to type your comments instead of a mere 1-5.

That, or both perhaps? I was just asking over at vBmodder about something like this MOD ( see http://tinyurl.com/o8fbt ) as I'm looking for one-liners about how our site is for the users. Is is possible this MOD could turn into what Brandon has suggested? Or are there any other MODs that would allow one to solicit feedback and get a short quip back as to what's right or wrong with the site?

Just tried the LIVE DEMO mentioned above. It's V-E-R-Y close to what I'm looking for, but from what I saw you can either supply a numerical grade -or- you can add a short comment, correct? Out of curiosity, is there anyway to do BOTH? And where do those comments go to?? Thanxx!

EDIT: I'm just SLOW, it will do BOTH. If you type a comment in, it doesn't go away until you've given a numerical grade. S-W-E-E-T!! This is what I've been wanting.:D

i am using IE7 and this script would not work... so i edited the .js to get it to work.. I am hoping the coder of this hack dont mind me reposting this hack.

i didnt take out anything that would take his credit, just thought this was a useful hack falling to the wayside.

also, if this hack does not work for your forum, and its not related to browser issues...... good luck....
