My website is currently using phpbb and I have found it so hard to install mods with the fear of messing something up so I have hired a mod installer (who had a hard time making mods compatible with each other and so therefore my site has been bugged and the edit button unable to be used).

Anyways, I heard of a way to install mods by using a plugin that simplifies the process. I have a few questions reguarding mods that I would like to have answered if you have the time to answer them.

1) Are mods hard to install if you have no experience with http, php, etc?

2) Can mods ruin your website and the software or void your updates/tech support?

3) Are steps to install mods clear and come with screenshots to verify correct installation?

4) Are the popular phpbb mods also vbulletin mods?

5) Like in phpbb, if I were to update the software do I have to reinstall all of the mods all over again?

6) If I mess up on something will this board try to help me fix the problem?

7) Can I get this icon for my message board? ^ ^ :bunny:

1.) As of version 3.5 and newer most mods are made as "plugins" and these plugins are just uploaded through a web interface and it works. No editing files just a few clicks of a button and maybe a couple file uploads.
2.) No mods don't invalidate support, you'll be told to turn off the plugin system so those mods don't interfere with basic vBulletin product if you request support through offical channels at vbulletin.com
3.) Most installation instructions are straight forward and simple some of the bigger modifactions are a bit trickier sometimes, and most people do provide screenshots of their modifactions.
4.) Not sure, I haven't used phpBB in ages but I'm going to guess most mods are already here and if not they can probably easily be coded for vBulletin.
5.) As long as all the mods are plugins you won't have to reinstall them.
6.) Yes we will be to help you'll just have to buy vBulletin and you'll be able to post anywhere here and we'll try our best to help you.
7.) Sure?

Also, what are some examples of the larger mods and mods that require the editing of files?

Really I can't think of any off the top of my head that need file edits.

Examples are a bit pointless if you aren't going to actually use them. However, at the moment, 3.5 mods that require file edits are in a seperate Extentions forum from mods that just use plugins.

Dan is slightly off, vBulletin (vBulletin.com/Jelsoft) does not provide any support for third party coding, and if you do need support you will be asked to disable the plugin system and reupload original files etc.
