As a number of you have already noticed, I have decided to step down from being a staff member.

I have been reassessing my personal life recently and the truth is that I need to spend more energy on both that and my own site which I cannot do with the amount of time that I find myself on here.

Stefan was the main reason that I became a mod here, and has been a source of encouragement throughout my time as staff, especially as it has been tough with issues in my personal life which have greatly affected me. Without him here as my rock, I cannot continue to keep the faith and use my time and energy on something that has no pleasure any longer for myself.

Like Stefan, this is a decision that did not happen overnight. But I have to admit, the final straw came when Stefan stepped down. As he was the only reason I ever accepted the Mod-ship (is that even a word?) and the only reason I stayed as long as I did, with his departure, I really don't feel I can contribute anything more to the org as the present time. Without him, all the fun and desire is gone out of it now for me.

While it has been fun and I have enjoyed my time as staff here, it has been gradually building to this decision for a number of weeks now. It is not a decision that I have come to lightly as I know that it will have an impact not just on the coding team, or the staff, but on the site as a whole. I've been staff for so long that I feel like part of the furniture now.

I leave with no regrets or anger, just relief and a much needed vacation.

Thanks old man for hanging in there with us youngsters all this time and showing us what it means to walk up hill, both ways, in the snow, with no shoes, and only a glass milk bottle for company. :)

Boofo, you will be missed here as you know. You were a big part of the site for me. I got out of coding a long time ago, but enjoyed the company of many here. I consider you as good of a friend as anyone can be on the internet. ( it's a long trip to go hunting with you ) I hope you stay in touch. You have my contact info and of course if there is anything I can ever do to help, you know it is here.

Sorry to see you go Booby, but I'm sure that we will talk lots on IM and stuff so you can't escape :p ;)

Seriously though, it's not going to be the same without you on staff. :( You're like the comfy sofa, always there and apart from getting a bit older and frayed round the edges, the type you never want to get rid of.

Okay, short post for a laugh is done; but knowing you a bit better than I used to I think this is a positive step for you. vB.org has become a place that takes more than it gives and with your need to focus on other things, well, it's natural to cast off the negative so that it doesn't hold you back.

When I think of work, it's mostly about having control over your destiny, as opposed to being at the mercy of what's out there.

Try not to become a man of success but a man of value.

You're not getting rid of me that quickly, Boofo! #^^$%^$@@@!!!!

In any case, for myself, you were the bridge between the staff and members. You've stuck to your principles with dignity, tact and of course humor. It was your humor that kept people grounded even in the most controversial of discussions. When the people look back at your off-topic and lighter posts I hope they begin to realize it served a purpose of keeping the community together. :)

As a member of this community, I thank you. As a friend, your lack of understanding what music is... Catch ya on the flipside. :D

Trust me, people who step down is because they plan to never show up here, or maybe to do it like I was doing it for years... in invisible mode and only once a month.
Many coders asked me why I left the community 2 years ago, including Stefan and Boofo.
I guess we all have the answer now.

I recently decided to come back and see if it's worth to stay.
I even made one of my popular mods, MicroStats, just to see how people will respond.
It touched my heart to see my old buddies how happy they were when they saw me back to post... I was feeling like I found my family again and hoped things changed. They did not... and the answer to this I get it from the resignations we all see now.

Believe me, there will be others like "our dying breed" (Chris said it well) who will step down.
