As many of you may have noticed already, there are a lot of changes going on lately. And here is the next one: I will leave the vbulletin.org Staff as Administrator.

Some of you have already noticed, that i didn't spend much time here during the last month, as i got very busy with RL. vb.org was my hobby, my heart was deeply in this site, but you have noticed, that changes are proceeding. There is a thread on vb.com's site feedback, where someone posted that the whole volunteer aspect doesn't work anymore. That might be correct, the site has deeply changed it's clients, from coders only to a big community which wants professional support and takes a lot of administrative effort...

Unfortunatelly i do not have the time anymore to do those big changes which are requested by a lot, and additionally i don't want to do so anyways. I have been a visitor of vb.org since the day it was founded (and i was even a visitor of the old vb.org before Chen was here...). Since that day a lot has changed on this site, i won't say it got better or worse, just different. It's not the old community anymore, and i don't think it will ever be anymore. I don't want to sound negative. It can be a possitive change as well, but i am a fossil, i miss the old times quite a lot, and i don't want to change vb.org into a direction i won't like it anymore.

I always wanted to be a coder, and i took over the Admin job by Chen to be able to make vb.org a worthwile stay for coders like myself, but i am browsing sites on the internet since a long time now, and i know that no site will stay what it was... Each site evolves with users joingin and leaving.

It would be nice to see vb.org evolving further, but regarding to personal issues at university and the rest of the real life (yeah i have such a thing as well ^^) i cannot continue to do so as an administrator, because that would mean a lot of time spending into coding and everything, hey you know the things ;)

With those changes in progress now i think it is the best time for a leave, thanks to all of you, who have worked with me in the past or made my job here as worthy as possible!

I'm sure you'll be missed Xenon. Hope everything works out for the best. To be honest, this is neither Jelsoft's nor Chen's site, it's yours, Erwin's, etc. for putting so much time in! I'm sure this will impact vb.org a great deal.

Chris
Ya Chris, I'm sure most of the actual members do not know how good used to be vb.org... those are the days I miss the most.
There used to be days when I slept only 2-3 hours/day just write code and post tutorials... that much I was in love with the community.
And I was not the only one. We were a family.
Now, vB.org is a business almost, not a hobby anymore...

In the old times, if you asked money for your code, people used to look at you like an outsider. Now, you can have forums where people pay to have code that used to be free.
This is one of many reasons why the "dying breed" of coders left.
The passion for helping others is all gone. There is no warm atmosphere in any of the forums anymore.
Look at the newbies, they ask a question and they never get an answer in any area. People are simply lazy to help anyone, coder or no coder.
In the old times, you used to post a question and get an answer withing 30minutes...

EXHB, do you know who is Neo... for example?
He is not the Matrix guy... but a pretty good coder who left also the community, a while ago.

That's the type of attitude that made all the heavy guys leave.
Keep on going guys with those questions, you manage to ruin it all... pretty good and pretty fast.

In the old times, if you asked money for your code, people used to look at you like an outsider. Now, you can have forums where people pay to have code that used to be free.
This can potentially be dangerous in that certain people who use vBulletin are attracted to additional code at no cost, but once hacks start becoming pay-only, you might see people sway from VB and in the end this could hurt VB's income.

Look at the newbies, they ask a question and they never get an answer in any area. People are simply lazy to help anyone, coder or no coder.
In the old times, you used to post a question and get an answer withing 30minutes...
I agree 100% with this. I can't tell you how many times I've seen posts go unanswered and of course since I'm not very experienced with code by any means, I can only do so much myself but it kind of bums me out when I see people struggling for help without getting any answers.

On a final note - take care, Xenon, and best of luck to you.

i take a few days away and this happens, curse my unauthorised absense and the effect it has on all things good in the world. Stefan i really respected you and you will be tremendously missed. to me this just doesn't seem to be a positive change for the site. losing two admins such as yourself and erwin in such quick succession is bound to be stifling, i'm utterly utterly shocked and dismayed.

06-18-2006, 05:02 PM
aww, I've just noticed this thread! How sad you also step down right after Erwin! It is a huge loss on vb.org end too but my only consolation is that I know you very well that you can not stay away from this community no matter what. So your getting rid of admin responsibilities might give you some more space and time to be more active in your vb.org activites and hacks. This is what I truly wish too. All volunteers who devoted their time to vb.org deserve best kudos and they are the main cores of this website but among all of them "Xenon" is and will always be "the legend".

My best wishes for you pal..
