The updated version of this release (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=97386).
What's the difference?
Better placement of the information, it looked very odd after a few amendments in the old version.
How do I install?
Download the attached zip and follow the enclosed instructions.
Instructions for languages which do not use letters A-Z will be coming soon.
Screenshots attached, just in case you like to see before you start.

How would I make it a Choice between Male & Female only..
because if a user enters a different value.. the image doesn't show.
peterska2
06-17-2006, 04:39 PM
Make sure that you have set 'Allow users to enter own value' to NO

^Ah.. I realized what my problem was.. I chose the wrong type when I first added the field.

How could we tie this in so that when someone registers and they choose male/female that, this hacks shows their information in the postbit?
peterska2

Just set the profile field options to show at registration or required. :)

Images are uploaded but they do not show. Instead it outputs text (Male, Female). What could be wrong? :confused:
peterska2
06-24-2006, 12:48 AM
you may need to upload the images to the misc folder for other styles that have their own image sets
Bubble #5

At this time there are no other styles, just the default vB style.

What is the link to your site? I'd like to take a look to see what I can find out.
Bubble #5

This must be a new vB feature, as none of our images are showing up. They are all text incuding all of the posting buttons. For example; instead of the online image it says "member is online". We just have to find where to turn this feature off :(
peterska2

Please provide the link to your site. I cannot support a fault if I cannot see the fault in action.

The problem was two fold; first the path was wrong, and second the image supplied was not capitalized. All fixed now, thanks :bunny:

The instructions do not take newbies into account. :(
I would like to know where on the ACP these things are located that I need to edit.
I got lost at step 3, "add phrase". Where? Where is the postbit/legacy option? See what I mean? I am a total newbie to vb. (I've ran IPB and phpBB)
I guess I'll have to take a 10 minutes to go through each menu, and item until I find where I need to go.
peterska2

To add a phrase go to Language and Phrases > Search In Phrases > Add New Phrase
To find the postbit or postbit_legacy go to Styles & Templates > Style Manager > <<>> Next To the style that you want to edit > Postbit Templates > they are there.

That was certainly a fast responce!
I have done the postbit/template changes. I am still stumpted at the phrase.
When I follow your path, [ Lang. & Phrases >> Search in Phrases ] I don't get the [ add new phrase ] option.
EDIT: the correct path is
Languate and Phrases >> Phrase Manager > Add New Phrase.
EDIT2: I can't seem to get the fifth field to show up in the Profile edit screen. I have it set up like this:
Gender
Select your gender
Male
Female
None
5
Yes, at registration and profile updating
No
No
No

When I view the members list, it shows the word Gender and the wrong image url: "misc/.gif"
Therefore just a blank red X.
I'll turn it off for member list. Other than that, nice mod.
Neal-UK
08-07-2006, 01:46 AM
One thing, I can't turn it off still shows "Gender" and red X under their names.

Can you post what you have put in your memberlist_resultbit template?
It is showing the correct alt text, so it should pick up the image path correctly unless the actual coding you have used is incorrect.

working now, i'd not changed one of the "fieldx" in that template to the correct number. Just the first one.
Thanks.

Hello peterska2,
Great hack!
I would like to ask you if you can add more options like Mobile type/model, and IRC Nick name?

Hello peterska2,
Great hack!
I would like to ask you if you can add more options like Mobile type/model, and IRC Nick name?Use the same method, but use whatever you want instead of gender for the contents.

Great Hack... now how about having it display in the user's profile.
That would make it complete!

Is there an actual image anyone has that can be used for Undisclosed? If I use the one with the package, it looks weird cause it only shows "Gender: " - simply put, no image and just blank space where the image should be. I guess I just need a 12x12 icon for Undisclosed, right?
peterska2
08-15-2006, 03:41 AM
you could make a 12x12 image with a questionmark on it. I don't use the undisclosed option on my site so never made an image for it.

I'm having a hard time with this gender hack.
It's printing this: Gender: 1
, rather than displaying the image like it did on my other template.
any ideas?
peterska2
08-15-2006, 04:05 AM
It's either a problem with the profile field where you have set it to mulitple choice instead of single selection, or you haven't uploaded the images to the images directory for your style.

Great mod!
Now what I think would be usefull is a query to set every profile to "Male" because most of my users are male and so it doesn't take mutch time to notify the female users to change it back to Female.
Any idea what that query would be?
Thanks
peterska2
08-21-2006, 06:40 PM
the easiest way is to have male as the first item in the list and set it to default first option.
dutchbb
08-21-2006, 10:49 PM
Yes I have done that. But members registered before this hack still need to update their profile to make it show in the postbit, I noticed.
A query could update all the old profiles.

1. There is no need to use that modification as full instructions are provided to get it to show.
2. Right click on the missing image and it will tell you where it is looking for it. You may need to reupload the images to additional locations for your styles.

According to your page source, you are not using any image code in the postbit template.
Can you post the exact code you are using in your postbit template please.

According to your page source you have <div class="smallfont">$vbphrase[gender]: $post[field5]
</div>
There is nothing I can suggest as the code which you are saying you have used is not the code which is being processed in your postbit, and the code that is being processed is being processed correctly with no errors.
It's probably linked to that other modification that you installed. You should UNINSTALL that as I have previously advised that it is not required for this modification.
I cannot support any problems arising from any other modifications being installed that may interfere with a modification. Therefore, I am afraid that I cannot provide any further support for your issue as the instructions provided do NOT cause your error and the code is simply not being processed in your postbit due to some other modification that you have installed.

You are using postbit, not postbit_legacy so you need to add the code to your postbit template.

Do you know how to add along with gender number of infractions to be shown?
like:
Infractions points: XXX
I don't know what variable is responsible for infraction points - everything else is like adding a gender...
peterska2
10-26-2006, 09:29 PM
That is already in the postbit template and will show only for users who have infractions. If you require modifications for anything other than what this particular modification does, please post in an appropraite thread or create a modification request in the appropraite forum.

Nice mod! Thanks
I'm looking forward for an improvement for this one:
would it be possible to specify a phrase instead plain male/female in the user profile field form? I know it would mean to change the code of this mod, but whould be quite useful for multi-language forums.
Is there any mod that already do this?
peterska2
12-28-2006, 06:00 PM
It's not possible to use a phrase I'm afraid. I suggest using just M and F or something similar for forums where more than one language is used.
Thanks Peter, simple yet effective. :D
I have noticed a problem with your hack.
This is what my memberlist looks like:

Hi Guys,
How can I add this option onto my registration ? So that a user will have to specify on reg whether he is a male or female. It should be editable in profile too.
.
Kiros72
02-12-2007, 01:53 AM
Hi Shaolin :)
To make it display upon registration go into the User Profile Field Manager and edit the gender field. Look down to the "Field Required" selection. It contains a list of options that will allow you to require that field and/or show it at registration and/or to require it upon each profile edit or not.
Peace :D

I used this but tweaked it. We have a crafting forum and I wanted to, instead of gender, reflect the type of craft the user did. So I uploaded different icons to represent the crafts. :) I tried to do it multiple item, but that didn't work so I just make the .gifs to represent more than one item as needed. I also moved it to have it show up underneath the username/title area.
It worked. Awesome.
'Been wanting something like this for a while. It was a bit of a struggle for me to get it to where I wanted, but I learned a bit in the process. Thanks so much for sharing this mod.

My forum's in Russian. Installed plugin. Few bugs: I had to give Man and Woman english names, how would I change them to Russian? I could only change word 'Gender' to russian.
But I still have to display 'man' or 'woman', because if I change to Russian - gender image won't display at all.
Also, when I click on profiles fo the users - I see 'Gender: Male' or 'Gender: Female' instead of 'Gender - image'.

I have just went through the installation of this hack but it doesn't seem to show up on the posts or in the edit profile section in the user cp.
Did I do something wrong or missed something out. I was a little confused with weather to edit the postbit or the postbit_legacy so I did both.
Apart from that I did everything in the install instructions.

For a gimmick I just added another "gender" called "Transvestite" or "Transe" as I called it. Here is the the pictures I used for this "gender". The install-instructions are the same. You just add a value called "trans" besides "male" and "female" and upload the images to the same place as the other. No other modifications are needed.

It didn't work for me..., using vbulletin 3.6.7
In MSIE or Firefox you right click on the red X (the placeholder that displays when any image on a web page is broken or missing) then left click PROPERTIES.
You'll see information such as the image name and it's full URL. Use that information to debug the issue. Check the path from the URL, check for typos or missing characters and so on.

I had it previously installed on 3.6.0, but once I upgraded to 3.6.7, it stopped working. Now, if I manually select my information via AdminCP, the gender option shows up, HOWEVER, users cannot see it in "Edit Profile" nor do they have a field for it during registration.
The postbit hack does allow the field to show up, however, I cannot seem to edit the postbit hack divs to make it streamlined with postbit_legacy. Please help me troubleshoot this issue. Thanks!

Hi I tried and install it but it doesn't show the images of the genders. I install it on
Greenfox and Element Blue skin btw but didn't work ;x only option is there to select male or female but to show the small icon of the gender inside threads it doesn't show up .
Can someone help plz?
STEP ONE
Create the following new profile field.
Type: Single-Selection Menu
Title: Gender
Description: Select your gender
Options: Male
Female
Set Default: None
Allow user to input own value: No
Display page: Edit Profile
===========================
It works... but I think there's something to be changed here. Either to change:
Male -> male (because image was named as male.gif)
Female -> female (because image was named as female.gif)
or
rename male.gif to Male.gif
rename female.gif to Female.gif
Thanks. It works on 3.6.7 pl1.

Make sure your gif files match the option names.
If you give options Male/Female, the gifs should be named Male.gif/Female.gif

Hi guys,
I've just made an hack.
in the same way as described in the install instructions I added a new Phrase called computer and text Computer.
Then I've created a field that has exactly the same checks but the options are mac and pc.
Then I've created the icons that I attache to this post.
Finally copy and paste:
</br>
<if condition="$userinfo[fieldx]"><div class="smallfont">$vbphrase[gender]<img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$userinfo[fieldx].gif" alt="$userinfo[fieldx]" /></div></if>
in your postbit after the cod of the original mod.
Hope you enjoy it :p

Funky weird problem.
I "installed" this mod per the instructions and it worked great for me (using IE). Then users reported that they were seeing the wrong postbit information with the wrong posts. In otherwords, the username/avatar would be one person, but the post content would be a different person.
I finally figured out that it was only screwed up when viewing the site through Firefox. IE displayed everything correctly.
I removed the template edit, and refreshed the screen in firefox - and everything was fixed.
Here's my template edit. Any clues?
<!-- GENDER DISPLAY ----------->
<if condition="$post[field14]"><div class="postdata">$vbphrase[gender]: <img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$post[field14].gif" alt="$post[field14]" /></div></if>
<!-- /GENDER DISPLAY ------------>

I had the same problem but solved it by adding step 4 to POSTBIT and POSTBIT_LEGACY rather than POSTBIT or POSTBIT_LEGACY as suggested.
Also make sure that you change all instances of [fieldx] in steps 4 & 5 so that x = the field number of your gender field.
Hope that helps

Don't know if this has been brought up, but can someone take a look at the code and make it so the images are recognized by like male, female, boy girl. Right now it only displays the image if it says "Male" or "Female" and members hate to capitalize. :p
jeriddian
10-15-2007, 03:46 PM
I think that would be solved by making sure your options of "male" and female" are not capitalized, and the GIF files are also named exactly the same, without capitalization.
I've installed this Mod and it works just fine on my board, so my hats off to Kerry-Anne for this nice work. I only have one question. If a member brings up the memberlist, the word "Male" or "Female" shows instead of the GIF symbol. Was that the way it's supposed to be? If so, what do I have to do to make the symbol show up there as well? Thanks.

Figured it out: I right-clicked on the text, chose to "View Image", noticed that the location assigned the icons to the root directory, and so uploaded the icons to the root directory, and now it's working.
Odd that it would do that despite the code specifically instructing the images to be fetched from the images misc. directory, but it's fixed so whatever.

If I look at the registration form as if I were to register, There is no Gender option. However, when I look at add a new user in my ACP - the drop down box with the options are there.
I would appreciate your help on this, Please.
With your permission, I will PM you my details.
Many Thanks,
Welshy2008.

I have made my own image for this and this is how you do it
POSTBIT TEMPLATE EDIT
-----------
POSTBIT OR POSTBIT_LEGACY
-------
FIND
<if condition="$post['age']"><div>$vbphrase[age]: $post[age]</div></if>
ADD BELOW
<if condition="$post[fieldx]">$vbphrase[gender]: <img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$post[fieldx].png" alt="$post[fieldx]" /></if>
in MEMBERS LIST TEMPLATE EDIT
In Template memberlist_resultsbit
FIND
<if condition="$show['usertitlecol']"><div class="smallfont">$userinfo[usertitle]</div></if>
AFTER ADD
<if condition="$userinfo[fieldx]"><div class="smallfont">$vbphrase[gender]<img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$userinfo[fieldx].png" alt="$userinfo[fieldx]" /></div></if>
And i added couple if there are couples on your board :)
and to get it work on vb 3.7.2 in mini stats then you have to find <dd>$prepared[posts]</dd>
and below add
<if condition="$userinfo[fieldx]"><div class="smallfont"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$userinfo[fieldx].png" alt="$userinfo[fieldx]" /></div></if>
remember to change X for your field number mine is 6
but i hope you like my version of this

work perfect on 3.73 thank you
This hack is mod is working fine on vb 3.7 pl1.
But I like to place gender in a seperate row. If I add another column according to these instructions, the colors of all columns are not correct any more. I mean the alternating table cells (first col dark color, second col light color, third col dark color, etc).
I have used this code in memberlist_resultsbit:
<if condition="$userinfo[field5] AND exec_switch_bg()"><td class="$bgclass"><div class="smallfont"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$userinfo[field5].gif" alt="$userinfo[field5]" /></div></td>
</if>
<if condition="$userinfo[field6] AND exec_switch_bg()"><td class="$bgclass"><div class="smallfont"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$userinfo[field6].png" alt="$userinfo[field6]" /></div></td>
</if>
Besides the fact that the gender column (field5) has the wrong color (but columns to the right are alternating), there are also problems with empty fields. If a user has not filled in field5 or field6, that row will have up to 2 columns less that the other rows.
You can avoid missing columns by not using the if condition, but the alternating color problem remains. Hard coding the color (<td class="alt1"> and <td class="alt2") does not help either, because you will have the alternating color problem on the other custom profile fields.
Do you have any solution for this problem?
Problem fixed!
I solved the problem. I also changed the order of other columns and that caused the problem. To avoid missing column cells when a user did not fill in that field, I just added <if condition="exec_switch_bg()"> to the code. For the gender field it looks like this:
<if condition="exec_switch_bg()"><td class="$bgclass"><div class="smallfont"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$userinfo[field5].png" alt="$userinfo[field5]" /></div></td>
</if>
Obviously you need to change the memberlist header, too. I added the following to memberlist template:
<td class="thead" nowrap="nowrap">$vbphrase[gender]</td>

For vB3.7.x I have now got this modification to show on the mini statistics box of a users profile page.
For this you need to do a small template edit.
IN memberinfo_block_ministats
FIND:
<dd>$prepared[posts]</dd>
BELOW ADD:
<!-- gender in mini stats -->
<if condition="$userinfo[fieldx]">
<dt class="shade">$vbphrase[gender]</dt>
<dd><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/$userinfo[fieldx].gif" alt="$userinfo[fieldx]" /></if></dd>
<!-- / gender in mini stats -->
Remember to change the x to your relative profile field number!!
ADD PHRASE __ where is it ????? Phrase Manager----Add New Phrase
and not show image for me
vb 3.7.3

Your image names have to be the same names as you put in the box.
So if your names are
Male.gif --> Male
Female.gif --> Female
male.gif -->male
female.gif --> female
marble.gif --> marble
HELLO.gif --> HELLO

You changed BOTH the image name and the call in the field? And also made sure the field number was correct?

I just installed and it's working fine. ;)
But now the font from the gender and post count are bigger than the others.
How can I have all the size font the same? What did I do wrong?

Strange thing is happening for me : the gender icon shows in the members list, but nowhere else. I checked 3 times if I properly edited the postbit_legacy and the memberlist_resultsbit, and it seems to be ok. I also checked the .gif names (if the matched with the profile field), and it's also fine. That's weird... :D
Edit : problem fixed. I had to put avatars/usernames/age/... to the left :
Admin CP > vBulletin Options > Style & Language Settings; and set the "Use Legacy (Vertical) Postbit Template" to Yes (and save)
And now the gender icons show up. ;)
