Server Load Spikes

Started a few days ago. Will just keep slowly climbing sometimes to as high as 20.0+ (2 cpus).

I have my vBulletin set to turn people away at 5.0 server load, yet it still keeps climbing.

Today I figured out that restarting the apache http server fixes the problems temporarily.

At first I thought I was getting slammed (still might be), but I'm starting to suspect something else maybe fubar.

Anyone seen this before?

On my old server this used to happen quite regularly towards the end. It would keep climbing until we would re-boot the server then it would start all over again. Never did stay on that server long enough after that to find out just what was causing it.
