Moderation Auto-PM
Version 2.0.1
What is it?
Moderation Auto-PM will automaticly send a Private Message to the user whenever their thread, post or attachment is moderated using the Thread Tools or Inline Moderation Tools.
It has support for the following types of moderation:
Thread: Move
Thread: Delete
Thread: Undelete
Thread: Stick
Thread: Unstick
Thread: Open
Thread: Close
Thread: Approve
Thread: Unapprove
Thread: Title Edit
Post: Edit
Post: Move
Post: Delete
Post: Undelete
Post: Approve
Post: Unapprove
Attachment: Approve
Attachment: UnapproveAll options can be turned on/off in the AdminCP. Moderation Auto-PM will not show the user where their thread is being moved to/from if they do not have permission to view the forum. You can also set a "master" exclude list of forum IDs that will never be touched by Moderation Auto-PM.
What's new in Version 2.0.1?
Added support for opening and closing threads by double-clicking on the thread icon
Fixed a bug caused by a missing phraseCredit for this release goes to ConqSoft, as he notice the missing phrase bug, and suggested the new Ajax open/close feature :)
What's new in Version 2.0?
Fully compatible with both vB 3.5.4 and vBulletin 3.6 Beta 2 or above!
Support for editing posts / titles using the ajax quick edit bits
Support for deleting posts via quick edit
Don't send a PM if you are moderating your own thread
Send a Delete PM instead of a Move PM if moved to a particular forum (ie, a recycle bin type forum)
Age Cutoff Point - if the item is over a certain age, a PM won't be sent
A couple of tiny bugfixes that no-one noticed :DHow do I install / configure it?
Please see the install.txt file contained within the zip.
How do I upgrade?
If you are upgrading from a previous version of this mod (any version), just upload the 3 PHP files, making sure to overwrite the old ones and re-import the Product XML, making sure you set "Allow Overwrite" to Yes.
If you are upgrading from PM on Thread Move, please uninstall that hack first, then install this one following the instructions in install.txt
Thanks go to redlabour for kindly providing a German translation for the phrases and to everyone who nominated this mod or voted for this mod in HotM June :)
Important: Unfortunately, my leased vBulletin licence has now expired, and I won't be renewing it until September which means I will be unable to reply to this thread, or update this mod until then. I'm hopeful that the great vBulletin.org community will step in to answer any questions in my absence though :) See you all in early September! :D

Ok, I figured out what it is. You have to have a at least one value in the block for excluded forums. Everything works once I put a valid forum ID there.

I didn't want to exclude any forums either. I tried putting in a zero, but that didn't work. Categories show up as a forum ID, so I put in one of those, which does work. So far, it doesn't seem to have affected any of the sub-forums in that category since they are all different forum IDs, and being a category, there are no posts/threads under it anyway, so it accomplished what I wanted.

For those having a problem with the exclude list, for now, just disable it by doing the following:
1: Open /includes/functions_autopm.php
2: Delete lines 48 - 54
I'll create a proper fix for it tonight.

I'd like to install this, but for very large boards, I think it needs some additional work. Anyone feel like taking this on?
1) PM sender is the moderator who actually did the action (there's no way I'm having every pm come from me).
2) Option, somehow, to not send them, especially for post deletions. And I'd love to see that option restricted by usergroups. So, for example, admins could delete posts without sending pm's, and forum mods couldn't.
3) A phrased paragraph to include, for each type of action. For example, for deletions we'd want to include an explanation of why posts are commonly deleted, who to address in case of questions, and a link to our FAQ. For moves, something different, and so on.
Also, I'd be interested in hearing whether this sends a user a PM if they have their PM's turned off, especially if they have their "receive administrative notices" turned off. And also, what it does if the user's PM box is full.
Alan @ CIT

Hi,
1) PM sender is the moderator who actually did the action (there's no way I'm having every pm come from me).
That's the default setting with this mod :) If you don't specifiy a username, it sends it from the moderators.
2) Option, somehow, to not send them, especially for post deletions. And I'd love to see that option restricted by usergroups. So, for example, admins could delete posts without sending pm's, and forum mods couldn't.
Adding a "Send PM" popup is on the todo list for a later version - don't quote me on that though :)
3) A phrased paragraph to include, for each type of action. For example, for deletions we'd want to include an explanation of why posts are commonly deleted, who to address in case of questions, and a link to our FAQ. For moves, something different, and so on.
Each action / type is an individual phrase, so you could do that now just by editing the phrases.
Also, I'd be interested in hearing whether this sends a user a PM if they have their PM's turned off, especially if they have their "receive administrative notices" turned off. And also, what it does if the user's PM box is full.
The only time it doesn't send a PM is if PM's are globally turned off in the vB options. Other than that, it forces the PM through whether they have PM's turned off, or their inbox is full.
Edit: Actually, I'm not sure on that last part about forcing the PM through. It will force the PM through, but if they've got PM's turned off, I don't believe it will as they'll never see it. I'll have to test it and see.
Thanks,
Alan.

Thanks, Alan. That helps a lot. If that pop-up did appear in a later version, you couldn't get me to click install fast enough :)
For now, I'm going to have to weigh the pros and cons, because we do a lot of small maintenance that we really don't want notices going out for.

When moving a thread, if the thread is moved to a forum the user cannot see or access, does it still send them a PM showing where it was moved to?
Alan @ CIT
05-16-2006, 07:42 PM
It will still send them a PM telling them the thread was moved, but does not tell them where it was moved to.
The same applies if they cannot see the forum the thread was in (ie, you moved it to an admin area, and are moving it back to public), it will tell them the destination forum, but not the forum it was in (the admin one).

Alan.

Hi Acers,
Hmm.. I'm at a bit of a loss I'm afraid. All seems to be working ok here.
How are you deleting the posts? Are you selecting them with the tickbox then using the inline moderation menu to delete them? Or some other way?
Also, if you get a chance, could you check your AdminCP -> Plugins for me please, and check that you have one called:
Mod Auto-PM :: Inline :: Post :: Delete
This should be using the hook inlinemod_start. Are there any other plugins listed that use that hook?
Thanks,
Alan.

Alan, is there a way to includes all the setting under one main setting group. It would be easier than going to 4 different settings group to set this up. Maybe like a main setting group and 4 setting groups under that. ;)
And excellent job, by the way. ;)
Alan @ CIT
05-17-2006, 08:15 AM
That's how it was originally, but as I added more and more settings, it became unmanagable :)
All settings are by default set to yes, and in theory you should only have to visit each setting once, and that's only if you want to set it to No, so it shouldn't be too bad :D
Boofo
05-17-2006, 08:24 AM
Maybe having them set to No as default would be better in case someone installed this and didn't do the settings right off the bat. I know when I installed it I had like a zillion IM windows open (I use Trillian) and was working on adding forums and threads on the site all at the same time. ;)
Also, I use Andreas' auto-moderation hack for posts. Will this send notices for any posts that hack sends to moderation? I would like to have the option for that, if at all possible, unless it already does it. Then that would make this request kind a moot. ;)

Acers

its covering only soft delete as of now.. thats cos i added it to delete_complete hook
you can add to editpost_delete_start
to cover for hard deletes also but then add the can_moderate checks also as it might..(i use the word might) happen that the pm might be sent when the actual deletion errors out due to say a permission prob.. highly unlikely but well on my board i give only soft delete permissions so i didn't take the chance.
but yeah inserting above code to editpost_delete_start should cover for both the soft and hard deletes :)

Not to sound ignorant here, but how do I set it so only Admins can hard-delete posts and threads? I don't think I've ever bothered with that before, to tell you the truth, or I don't remember dealing with it, anyway.

We have an unusual setup for our board .... we have a deleted thread archive (which is just a subforum of one of our mod forums) that we toss many of our deleted threads (we mainly only delete threads that have gotten out of control) into. We tell the OP that their thread has been deleted, but it essentially only gets moved to another private forum. Is there a way to make threads that are moved to certain forums say that the thread has just been deleted, instead of moved?

Hi,
Is there a way to make threads that are moved to certain forums say that the thread has just been deleted, instead of moved?
Unfortunately, this cannot be done in it's current state.
The closest options there are at the moment, are the ability to totally exclude a forum. So if you moved the thread to your private sub-forum, a PM wouldn't be sent at all.
Or just the standard move option, where if the user cannot view the private sub-forum, it will tell them it's moved but not tell them where it's been moved to.
Many thanks,
Alan.

Any way to consolidate the four AdminCP Options into one long one? Or at least force them to be consecutive? For some reason they are scattered amongst my other options in AdminCP -> vBulletin Options, which is confusing.

They should technically be in order, but if other hacks are using the same "displayorder" as mine, then they'll get scattered. With debug mode turned on, you should be able to edit each setting group and change the display order to get them to display next to each other.

Alan.

I uninstalled the old product and installed the new one .. It's only working for moved threads for me as well. No PM's being sent for any other moderator activity.
Same here! Only pms for moved threads. This is a great idea. Is there a fix for this?

Ok, I figured out what it is. You have to have a at least one value in the block for excluded forums. Everything works once I put a valid forum ID there.

Did all of the plugins get uninstalled as well? Sounds like the uninstall code was run as the language column was deleted, but the plugins didn't get uninstalled.
Give it another try and check that the plugins are removed correctly.
Sorry to hear you are uninstalling it btw, is there anything I can do to improve the product so that you would consider installing it again?
Thanks,

I have every intent to keep using it. It is a great mod. :) I wasn't sure how to go from 1.0 to 1.02. The install instructions in the zip made no mention on how to upgrade. I figured the best way would be to just un-install the product from the admincp. Maybe the un-install code from v1.0 didn't work. I did have the 3 include files still on the server after i removed it.
I overwrote the old files with the news ones and then uploaded the 2.0 version. All seems normal now.
Thanks,
Alan @ CIT

What do you mean? In the new version the readme.txt mentions nothing about how to upgrade and above it only talkes about upgrading from version 1.0 to 1.0.1
How do I upgrade?
If you are upgrading from v1.0 or v1.0.1 of this mod, just upload the 3 PHP files, making sure to overwrite the old ones. There is no need to re-import the Product XML.

In other words, it doesn't matter if you are upgrading from version 1.0 OR version 1.0.1, the upgrade instructions are the same - just upload the 3 PHP files :)
Also, the next version won't send a PM if it's your own thread/post/etc your moderating :)
Edit: I have changed the upgrade instructions in the first post which will hopefully prevent confusion

Anyone has the same ?
Alan @ CIT
06-09-2006, 10:08 AM
Redlabour: Does this happen to you if you move one of your own threads? If so, then it's likely a problem with the phrases - check to make sure that the move phrase doesn't have "delete" text in it.
If the phrases are fine, then I suspect the users may be mistaken, or mixing up their PMs as it would happen for everyone on your forum rather than just a few users.
Let me know how you get on :)

Hi.
When I move thread from one forum to another on redirection screen ("The thread has been successfully moved / copied. You will now be returned to the thread.") php code appears above this window:
>input->clean($items_a, TYPE_ARRAY_STR); return true; } /** * Returns the parsed phrase text * * @return char */ function get_phrasetext_parsed() { return $this->vbulletin->input->clean($this->phrasetext_parsed, TYPE_STR); } } ?>
It looks like this "bug" doesn't do anything wrong but it's still must be removed. I'm afraid that is some typo somewhere or sth. I found it in class_autopm_parser.php
Could you tell me to fix that bug ?
Alan @ CIT

I've never seen this before, and am unable to reproduce it here. I can't see how it could happen if I'm honest, but I would take a guess that it's a problem with your webserver.
What webserver (Apache, IIS, etc) and version are you running? Also, what version of PHP are you running?
Also, if you could take a screenshot when it happens or set me up an account on your forum so I can see it in action it would help a lot.
Thanks,
Alan.

I know this was discussed earlier, but I don't remember seeing a definitive answer ....
Will it be possible for a PM to be sent if a reply was edited or deleted in a future update, perhaps?
Also, I would love to see an option for the PM to say that a thread has been deleted, even if it's only been moved ... I gave my board scenario earlier about having a deleted thread archive, and the PM states it's been moved, when we would like it to say deleted.
LOVE this mod. It really helps on our board because a lot of our staff are friendly with the members, and it saves the mods from having to be the "bad guy" with their friends. :) Also saves staff from looking like they're picking on certain members who can't seem to follow the posting rules. ;) Thanks so much!!

Hi all,
If you have any feature requests that you'd like to see in the next version, now is the time to tell me :)
The list so far is
* vBulletin 3.6 Support
* Support for editing posts / titles using the ajax quick edit bits
* Support for deleting posts via quick edit
* Don't send a PM if you are moderating your own thread
* Send PM on merge
* Send a Delete PM instead of a Move PM if moved to a particular forum (ie, a recycle bin type forum)
Anyone got anything they wish to add to this list?

Any news yet on when you'll have the 3.6-compatible release ready? I'd like to get it thoroughly tested on my 3.6 beta forum before 3.6 goes to gold release and I transfer over my main forum.
Alan @ CIT
06-19-2006, 05:31 PM
I've ported it over to work on 3.6 and have added half the feature list I mentioned a few posts back.
I'm hoping to have it finished and released before the end of the week :)
Thanks,
Alan.

Good news all!
Moderation Auto-PM v2.0 has been released, with many much requested features, and full vBulletin 3.6 Beta 2 support!
Whats new in Version 2.0?
Fully compatible with both vB 3.5.4 and vBulletin 3.6 Beta 2 or above!
Support for editing posts / titles using the ajax quick edit bits
Support for deleting posts via quick edit
Don't send a PM if you are moderating your own thread
Send a Delete PM instead of a Move PM if moved to a particular forum (ie, a recycle bin type forum)
Age Cutoff Point - if the item is over a certain age, a PM won't be sent
A couple of tiny bugfixes that no-one noticedTo upgrade, just re-upload the PHP files and re-import the Product XML, making sure to set "Allow Overwrite" to Yes :)
As usual, any comments, questions, suggestions or complaints are welcome :)
Thanks,
Alan.

Im currently using the prior version on vb 3.5.3 and hate to break it as I love this hack.. Is there a way to confirm that it works for 3.5.3 before I upgrade? This would be really nice man.

If the previous version worked ok on 3.5.3, then this one should.
The easiest way to test it is to install it, if it doesn't work, just un-install it and re-install the previous version - installation only takes a few seconds :)
Thanks,
Alan.

Am I missing something? If you disable AJAX on your forum then you're not able to edit posts/titles using the AJAX quick edit bits... therefore this mod wouldn't have anything to Auto-PM.

I'm confused about how I would change the PM to say the thread was deleted instead of moved, when it's being moved to one specific forum (a deleted thread archive) .... can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm guessing it needs to be done in Phrases, but I'm seeing where I can change it for only one forum.

To have it send a Deleted PM rather than a Moved PM when a thread is moved to a particular forum, go to AdminCP -> Options -> Moderation AutoPM - General Options, and enter the Forum ID in the Recycle Bin option.

Is it possible to create "PMs" as threads in a moderator forum, instead of sending them to a user? If not, is this a functionality you would consider implementing? This would make a really nice way for moderators to keep track of what's going on, and what users are causing trouble.

Just wanted to add that I closed a thread using AJAX (double-clicked the thread status icon) and no notification was sent either.
It doesn't support that feature, as I forgot all about it :D
The non-sending on title change is due to a missing phrase. I assigned the phrase to the wrong product on my development board :o
I'll fix it now, and see about adding support for the double-clicking of thread icons to send a PM at the same time :)
Thanks,

Hi all,
Moderation Auto-PM 2.0.1 has been released :)
What's Changed:
* Added support for opening and closing threads by double-clicking on the thread icon
* Fixed a bug caused by a missing phrase
Credit for this release goes to ConqSoft, as he notice the missing phrase bug, and suggested the new Ajax open/close feature :)
As usual, any problems, comments, questions or suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks,

When the PM is sent, and the option "email me when a new PM arrives" is ON, the email says "Moderator A sent you a PM" and when you read the PM the author is Moderator B.
Ill explain:
I have set so all PMs are sent thru a general sender. But emails show the real moderator.
Another thing I would like is, avoid sending those emails when an "Moderation Auto-PM" PM is send.
So far so good!
Great Update Alan @ CIT. I'm impressed.
Send a Delete PM instead of a Move PM if moved to a particular forum (ie, a recycle bin type forum)
And can I mention the reason here? coz when moving a thread you can't add a reason.

1. "Threads" and "Postings" now named for User GUI "Themen" & "Beitr?ge".

It would be great if you could respond to my previous post regarding posting moderation notices as threads, instead of just PMs. Or, to give moderators a shared PM account perhaps?

One question
What happens if a user doesn't have PM enabled?
Issues
The e-mail notification shows the moderator's name rather than generic user.
If your recycle bin forum is hidden it doesn't send them the deleted topic message (or is this because I have one click move, if so can I add it to that?)
just got bad luck or something, this one just doesnt work for me.
vb 3.5.4, I uploaded the files and import product. No PM is sent out with post delete/move, thread move/close/delete .... at all. havent try all the functions yet, but none that I tested is working right now. Do you have any idea Alan

i haven't tried yet because i'm at work, but would there be any expected problems if the PM's were set up to be sent by a user that had their PM abilities turned off? i was thinking about setting up a BOT account to which users would not be able to reply to the auto-PM's.
Did you turn on all the option in the AdminCP -> vBulletin Options?
Yes. I turn off at first, and only leave the options I want, it didnt work. Then I turn back on all the options, it still doesnt work.
And are you certain your not testing it on your own thread/post/attachment? If you are the author, it won't send a PM :)
I have two accounts, login in two browsers (on the same computer), and test on eachother's post/thread. it doesnt seem to work. Dont know if after installation, I need to setup anything else? any permission need to turn on (not by default)?

I can confirm that this is happening on my system as well, running the latest version of the hack on vB 3.6 Release Candidate 1. I've just set up the test scenario and tested it myself:
BUG DETAILS:
1) Create a non-moderator / normal user account.
2) Sign in as this normal user, navigate to a forum that moderates posts/threads, and make a series of three or four posts in that thread.
3) Log out, and log back in, this time as a moderator.
4) Approve / delete the various posts.
5) Log out, log back in as the normal user. What you'll discover is that the standard vB pop-up dialogue box for a new PM appears (if you have it configured to do so), informing you that you have a new PM; and you'll notice that the 'unread' PM count in the userinfo area reads '1' -- even though, if you go to the PM interface, you'll see that you have quite a few from the Moderation-PM system. Read the first PM, and the count of unread PMs will drop to '0', even though you've remaining unread PMs in your box.

This mod is great, and my members gave it a warm reception. Some had been complaining that unknown moderators changed and deleted their posts, and they weren't told why or by whom - something this mod is perfect to remedy! Everyone is more happy now.
One great addition to this mod would be a moderation report generator. Who has moderated what thread, when and why. This could be accomplished by making a shared PM account for moderators - or even having a forum that contains threads of the different PMs that are sent out.
Thanks alot for this, it works like a charm! :)

A suggestion that my users are asking for;
If several posts within a thread by a single user are moderated via inline moderation, combine the PM. For example:
"Dear {X},
Your following posts within the thread {Y} have been {Z}.
Post #199This is an automatic message, please do not reply"
