Would the staff please restore any deleted modifications that weren't by request? Some of them contain discussion that is helpful to users. A yes or no answer will do.
Thanks

Are the actual THREADS deleted?
All I noticed so far was that the attachments got deleted....
This is getting weirder and weirder....

Just in advance, I'd like to keep this as ontopic as possible... (I just want a staff response), so if you guys can keep replies out of this I would appreciate it.
To answer your question, I beleive they said no. Just moved to the "Recycle Bin".

Just to clarify, SirAdrian, since your title and first post is misleading. And Hellcat's question implies misunderstanding.
JumpD removed (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=973808) the attachments that contained his modifications. Less than half a day later, moderators deleted his hack threads because of "vb.org policy. (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=974928#post974928)" These support threads had thousands of posts of helpful information.
I just hope this gets resolved soon. It certainly hurts the community as a whole, and that makes me sad.
More info here. (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=975168#post975168)
I would like more information about this "policy" and how it can go about being changed. Lock the threads, maybe? Put 'em in a "hacks no longer available, but here's the thread anyway" forum? Anything is better than immediate and wholesale deletion (even if it is soft, and they can be reinstated.)

ThanksNo.
Or at least, not yet. Let's wait and see what this discussion between coders and staff throws up shall we? I think any changes that are made should now be left until after that has taken place..
Hopefully we can get something arranged sooner rather than later.

If there is no modification attached to a hack thread anymore, it is not considered a release, and is removed (nothing get's permantly deleted). This has always been the policy, and until know not led to any (major) discussion. I don't see why we should treat JumpD's hack's any different then others. If at any time an author wants to release his modifications again, he can always request the thread to be restored, this has happened enough in the past.
In most situations when an author announces that he is removing his hacks, and he deletes the files, the thread would be removed whenever a Staff member notice it. In this case we waited until the next day to give him a short period to rethink.

Do you think that an achieved forum with no posting privledages would be a good idea to created? Then vBorg could host these abandon hacks, only moving abandon hack threads or giving the author the permission to move it to that forum if he/she wishes. Like the old 3.0 beta forums. As the author you were able to move the thread to the full release forum when it was out of beta stage.
At least this way the information is still visiable to users who still wish to read the content it has. Just an idea. :)

We are currently discussing ways to allow such threads to exist but not be posted in, and readily available for others :)

Problem solved!
Are we cool again now? :)

From my own personal view everyone needs to calm down, take a step back and think about whats going on - Thats staff and members alike...
I've kept out of the discussions actively, mostly because I know most of what I come out with will either be used as fuel for the fire, or change the target of agression to myself...
However I think most people now have had their rants over and done with, and perhaps are ready to think reasonably through things instead of rising to the "bait" that has been left...
The conduct from both staff and members has been questionable in regards to this matter over the last few days - Emotions are high, people are making rash decisions and falling out rapidly with everyone...
Lets hope we can get some good out of this :)

Thank you Chris M, I trust some good will come of this and the threads will re-appear.
It's off-putting to have bookmarked 40-50 posts that had valuable info in them, posts that I could reference to maintain the modifications on my board and continue to learn from, only to come back and see none of the bookmarks work.
I understand the "policy" but this is a case where the "policy" needs to be reviewed.
lmao, tralala you wanted to be the fellow member users could relate to when talking about the "coder rebellion" haha :P
No, I don't want to "be" anything.
I spent many hours reading those threads. I bookmarked helpful posts and responded to many users trying to share the knowledge I'd gained in them. And there was more knowledge in there for me to absorb. I was an active participant and they were resource I appreciated and relied upon.
Those hack threads contained the support that made me feel comfortable installing many of the hacks on my forum, and my forum's identity and atmosphere is now defined, in large part, by them.
And now none of my bookmarks work. Just because the attachment was removed, does that mean all that valuable information should be removed too? This was done without the author's permission, in fact the author granted his permission for continued use in existing installations.
The policy of thread deletion is under review, I understand. I will wait and see what they decide. Deleting these massive threads is imbecilic. Locking or archiving I can understand. But to delete them harms the community and robs it of a valuable resource.
