View Full Version : Admin Log In As User
Admin Log In As User 1.2
About this hack:
This hack allows a SUPER ADMIN (settings in your config file) to log in as any user. You have to go to the user's profile page and there will be a link to 'Log In As This User'. Also, there is a link the drop down menu in the ACP User Manager. If you are logged in as another user, you will get a message on top of the forum saying, 'You are currently logged in as another user. Click here to log back into your account.'
This hack is very easy to install. This hack has NO options. Just install and it's ready to be used!
Enjoy!

Any way to get this to have a link in the Admin CP like the old version did? ;)
Well I didn't make this as a port. I use a totally differant way to log in. I totally wrote this hack from scratch, but, if you want the link in the acp, I'll try to add it now.

hmmm odd, I tried it out, however it doesn't do anything for me. I see the link, but when I click it nothing happens? Basically the page reload's itself.
EDIT: It works only when I go into the ACP and use the log as user, however on the memberinfo it doesn't work.

I've noticed though ... as soon as you become that member you lose your admin privileges and need to log back into your super admin account to do anything.
Still, this is going to prove very useful

Yes, you have to log out as that user, and then you will get ACP rights with-out even logging in.

I didn't do any fancy things yet. They hack just totally logs you in as another user.
This sounds like a great option however, aren't there concerns of privacy here? Such as reading personal PM, etc.

This is awesome...time to spy on the members that are trying to make evil plans...
This sounds like a great option however, aren't there concerns of privacy here? Such as reading personal PM, etc.
That's not my problem HOW you use this hack.
Anyways, besides this hack, there are many other ways to read someone else's PMs. 1) There is a hcak out there that reading someone's PM is the main function. 2) Use phpmysql and look at the PM table.
Also, PM stands for Private Message, but Private as to you only, not a post. But not totally private, admins can always see what is in them by looking in the database. All users should know that already.

Great mod. The only thing that concerns me is the question brought up in post #24
I'd install this in a heartbeat, the only thing from stopping me would be a cookies issue...I don't want to log in as another user and mark any posts as read. If you could somehow prevent that, I might give you a big fat kiss :)

I have the same problem.... I think it has to do with vbSEO if you have it installed. The reason is when I click on the log into user on member profile, the vbSEO shows the url www.yourforumname.com/members/membersusername.html
Therefore it won't work that way, unless you can work another way out? It works great from the ACP though :)

Also too add to a few members comments here.
As far as I know, it doesn't log your IP.... I logged in as the user, checked IP and mines never showed up, however!!! if you post with that account, I believe it will show up then.
Also for things like who was online today.... it will show them online if you logged into their account.... just thought I'd let everyone know.
This hack is great, especially when my members sometimes forget pass, or when I want to use my test bot user and don't want to go back and forth logining in and out.....
Also for things like who was online today.... it will show them online if you logged into their account.... just thought I'd let everyone know. It shows them online but I'm not sure to everyone else. I know as soon as you log back to your account, it doesn't say they are still logged in.

Well, that would solve the logging in as a user problem, but it would really mess up regular browsing. I know that from a member's perspective, when I visit another forum, I'll view new posts (just a list of them)...I'll pass over all of the titles that obviously don't interest me and read the rest. When I visit next time, I don't want to see those posts that I passed over last time...they need to be marked as read. So, that's not really a good overall solution.
If you can't get around this, that's fine, I don't have to have the mod installed, it would just be really really good if I could and avoid this one problem.
Abe1 as always, what an incredible addon! Your mods are not hacks to me, they are great works of art! Good job bud!

You can add the following by hand to ANY link. These are GLOBAL commands.
To log in as a user:
?admin_log_in_as_user=$useridofuseryouwanttologina s
To log out:

Well I found a fix for vbseo people, since Abe1 doesn't really care nor has the time to find a fix himself, no offence or anything Abe1. I love the mod you made and well hopefully this will help all people who use vbSEO :D
When you use this mod, it will say
"This user has not registered and therefore does not have a profile"
Simply ignore it and click on your forum home button and you will be logged in as them.
All I did was add this in my memberinfo template, instead of the code Abe1 had in the instructions.
<!-- Start Admin Log In As User -->
</if>
<if condition="$show_admin_log_as_user_link">
<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="member.php?admin_log_in_as_user=$userinfo[userid]">$vbphrase[log_in_as_user]</a></td>
<!-- End Admin Log In As User -->
I hope that helps all vbseo people ;)

I like the concept but its open to abuse and a trusting admin.
Can the mod be changed so that when a admin is logged in as another user, the user in question username says something like "Admin Logged in as - username" and if a admin makes a post as this user it says the username as well.
This was there is no confusion on who's posts are who's and shows online who is who when logged in.

I don't know why you say 'doesn't really care'. I actully do care and it's on the list to try to figure out what was wrong. The way I see you did this fix, looks like I have a solution. Try this though. Instead of it going to member.php change that to index.php. What do you get then?
For thoughs of you who would like to know a status update on the next release, it will so far include 1) Hack only applies for forum. The ACP does not get affected. 2) The sesstions are no longer updated.
I'm working hard to get the online not to update but there are some problems. This is what is holding me back from and update. I've been working on it for hour already.

I'm not going to look at that hack, but, right now, if you look at a thread, it will be marked read. I can't stop this from happening. If you have new posts by cookies, then the user will not realize because the last login time does not update.

No, I'm not quoting myself because I've lost it (Well, that is debateable really ;) ), I'm quoting to answer my own question. I got it to work fine.
We have 3.5.0 and it works... smoothly and seemlessly. I love it.

I love this hack.
I have added the following to my postbit and postbit_legacy files.
Look for
<if condition="$post['userid'] AND $show['member']">
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="profile.php?$session[sessionurl]do=addlist&userlist=buddy&u=$post[userid]"><phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[add_x_to_buddy_list]</phrase></a></td></tr>
</if>
Add:
<if condition="$bbuserinfo[usergroupid]==6">
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php?$session[sessionurl]u=$post[userid]&admin_log_in_as_user=$post[userid]">Admin Login as this User</a></td></tr>
</if>
This will allow you admins to use the log in feature from the pulldown menu associated with the username in the postbit templates.

1) You can become a super admin in the config.php file.
2) If you are logged in as another user, NO-ONE will see you online. You will see your self as the first name in the 'who is online' spot on your forum home but no-one else will see you there. Also, go to that users profile and you will see that they are off-line and that their last log-in was NOT when you used the account.

Look for this:
and add your userid in there. ;)
Do I add my administrator id here
$config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'] = '';
For example I still use my administrator ID so to become a super admin to I do this
$config['administrator']['superadministrators'] = '';
What rights do I gain except the ability to use this hack by making myself a Super Admin?

You will aslo be able to set what parts of the ACP your other admins can see.

If you are userid 1, you would make this:
$config['administrator']['superadministrators'] = '';
in to this:
$config['administrator']['superadministrators'] = '1';

Thank you, sir. I hate to have an account that I use all the time and yet it looks like they are never there. Excellent hack, I've been using it like crazy. :)
The question I asked about adding the name of the account to the top bar, can this be done with just the template edit or would it take more than that?

You can make the edit your self. Add: $bbuserinfo[username] where ever you want.

LOL I thought of that but didn't remember I would show up logged in as them. Your hack works too good. ;)
Umm... I just installed this and it emptied out the code from one of my other plug-ins.
What the hell? :ermm:

Are your template cached with a hack or someting like that?
Do you have more then one style?

I looged in as another "test" user from users's profile page, BUT its showing as online! I think it should not show as online as the latest version here said!

It only shows YOU that he is online.
2 things to prove to you -
1) If you go into his profile, it will say he is offline and that the last time he was online didn't change.
2) If you use another browser and logon to your forum, you will see that user is not logged in.

I disabled (AWS) but still, same problem :( any idea?

Look in the plug-in. You have to replace the if superadmin with if user 1.

Hi,
I posted this message on vBulletin.com because of a font problem that started on my boards in the signatures:
Font sizing problem with signatures
I created a signature in my profile and I wanted the first 2 lines of text to be in Arial size 2 and the rest of the text in Arial size 1. For some reason my size 1 and size 2 fonts look exactly the same size when previewed or saved then looked at. But, while I'm inside the actual editing box, the sizes look correct.
In other words, when editing I have 7 font size choices:
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
When previewed or even when I save the signature and then go look at it, size 1 and size 2 look the same size. This only occurs in the signature function. It does not occur anywhere else I can find, for example if I format the text size in a thread, it looks ok; size 1 fonts look size 1 and size 2 fonts look like size 2 and so on.
Anyone got a clue what's wrong?
Thanks,
Mark
I've now discovered through that if I disable the ADMIN LOG IN AS USER plugin, my problem goes away. If I reable the plugin, I get the problem again. I tried it a few times to be sure and it works everytime I disable it.
Any thoughts on what could be causing a font problem specifically in signatures when the ADMIN LOG IN AS USER plugin is enabled?
Thanks

I just installed the mod but the users I am spoofing are appearing in the list of people online and in bold. Using the Log Out link usually clears the name off the list. vBulletin 3.6.4
What's causing that? Thanks.

Only use are able to see your self online. No-one else sees that user online. Go to the user's profile and you will see they are logged out.
I imported the product. But step 2 says "do the template edit" I have no idea what that means I cant find it anywhere.
