I'm new and having trouble with file permissions.
I know 777 is bad and have been told to use 755 on all executable public html

correct? I am just trying to make sure the site it safe. Is there a manual anywhere on this?

One last thing...
Changing just the version number....not the copyright
I have looked in style manager edit templates in the footer but it only says the "copyight vbulletin-do not remove" but doesn't show me the number so I can change it.
Is there somewhere else I need to be? Sorry for the newbie questions (how embarrassing:cheeky:

Thanks all
Lucky

Why would you want to chnage the version number? As long as you have the copyright line there, you don't have to show the version number line.

I want it to say version 3

not version 3.5.4

I wouldn't do that, but then that is just me. Any script kiddie seeing that might want to try and exploit and of the old vulnerabilities in the old version just to see if they can do it. ;)

Then how can I get the version number off like you do here at the bottom?

They have the version number on here. ;)

You can comment out that line for the version number and just do text to replace it, I suppose. ;)

Yup.

Remove the version number from the "powered_by_vbulletin" phrase in "Language & Phrases" and Meta tags in your "headerinclude".
