Google adsense question

I need help installing adsense banner ads to my site. Here is the navigation I am following to add the code:

left-nav: styles & templates -> style manager
main-window: edit templates (from the drop down)

scroll down to Navigation / Breadcrumb Templates .. double-click
-> double-click navbar ...

scroll right to the bottom of this template and paste ad

Here's the weird thing. I can't see the ads, neither can any of my members, but when my wife is logged in she can actually see it clearly. That makes me think that the problem isn't at Google's end but at my end. How can I set it up so that everyone sees my google ads?

To make things even more complicated, my preference would have been to do a "skyscraper" ad instead of a header banner, but I don't know in which template I need to paste the code. It took me forever to figure out where to paste the header code.

Could people have been using ad blocker programs? I had a problem where I couldn't see the ads until I realized that I had adblock installed on firefox
