how can we stop users from avoiding bans? what tools are out there? maybe cookie tools or something, i dunno. IP bans dont work cuz most users can just reconnect, especially on AOL, u would have to ban the whole 172. range.
what are our options?

This has worked wonders at out site. They think they can keep fighting the good fight, but eventually they just crap out and leave.

Wasn't there a hack that made selected users believe that their posts displayed normally but actually it didn't show to other users? *Scratches head* You can always set Admin-allowed registrations only. Anyway, sometimes simply ignoring an unwanted user works.

Neat idea, Make them think they are part of the community but no one can read anything they post. Site would still get the posting traffic but sputhead wouldn't realize no one was listening to him.
What about a massive pop ups when they log in?
Just endless popups...
What worked for me on some difficult individual was to mess up their account so things on the site acted really wierd... I disabled access to a bunch of areas and when they logged in the site looked really funked up...
Lately I am getting a lot of people singing up and posting a long list of items they are selling, then they leave and keep signing up under different names and different IP's.
How do you stop that?

Yes, there are a couple of hacks out there that randomly piss users off that are in a certain usergroup. random ban times, makes the site slow for them, etc.

are they using similar email domain names? May want to enable image verification in the registration process. If it is a bot, that will stop some of them.

thats a option in vbulletin already. its under banning options called "
Tachy Goes to Coventry" you just put the userid in the field and no1 can see their post.
