"Voice Alert" when have an unread PM

it's a funny hack :)

when you have a unread PM, a voice alerts you

open your footer template and add to the bottom

It is working with IE6 and firefox(without "mepiaplayerconnectivy" tool)

When I come to a site that notifies me by a stupid "You've got mail" voice, the first thing I do is leave without even looking at the site. So, unless you want people to lose visitors, I suggest you remove this hack... :(

Worked like a charm! I am on Linux using FieFox and worked here. Just make sure you upload the .wav file to your forum directory and change the above script to your url:
http://www.yoursite.com

I did a hack similar to this one only recently , but with random sounds - but i noticed when i used the Embed command , the newest security on Internet Exploder 6 with Microsoft's latest upgrades that i kept getting an active x popup request when i had a message which drove me mad - if someone here has the same problem , change the EMBED in the code to BGSOUND and it should fix that issue (hopefully).

But there are 2 points of view..

I agree having 2 much sound is annoying..

but here on this board.. i missed a pm because i never scrolled to the top.. just going to the threads i subscribed...!!

So here I would have gotten my pm 2 days earlier with this hack!!!

I would be looking for something intermediate:

What would be incredibly fantastic would be the following..

get the login-time of a user... if the user has not read his pm for 5 minutes since being online... -> then play the sound!!

But i admit i love the idea of a sexy woman telling me: You've got mail :knockedout:
