what queries are and what they are used for?

I have seen several threads here, one that really comes to mind, about how the member has way too many things installed and it is causing his queries to go really high.

How do I know what my queries count is? Where do I find this information?
I tried doing some research, but didn't really find any answers..

You can turn on debug mode to view your queries or install the Microstats hack. Most sites I know use the Microstats hack.

Queries are what pulls the information for your site from the db. Like Who's Online and how many members you have and everything else, even your forums listing. That's just the simple way to put it, I guess. ;)

You can see the queries I have on my site at the bottom of every page. ;)
