Shams Style

Hello,
This is my first skin to design for vBulletin. The skin's name is Shams Style, Shams is an arabic word which means "Sun" in english.
As this is my first skin for vbulletin, I would like to thank 2Evolve as I used one of his skins that were released here in the forum in order to know how things are done.

Version 2 Now Released
Skin veriosn 2 is now available with the following corrections:
1- Buttons are redesigned to suit the skin overall look
2- Icons redesigned
3- A bug was fixed in the XML file (Not really a bug but it's a color fixing).

thptquynhluu1 thanks for your point, I just needed to make the buttons have a different recognizable look than the rest of the skin, but I'm still thinking of releasing another version with orange colored buttons instead of the gold ones plus some other enhancments for the icons and buttons as I didn't work much on these. Actually I was dieing to release my first skin to see if my designs are acceptable or not before I release more advanced skins ;)

I just have one question... I use vBadvanced CMPS..what do i have to change in the navbar so it will show the link for forum on the index and vise versa...

The button isnt a prob ;)

A good question :)
For myself I use vBadvanced modules as side columns and the forum in the middle column, so there will be no problem if you use vBadvance this way (for an example: www.webmastersforums.net ).
But if you need to use vbAdvanced as your frontpage with the forum in another page, I can provide you a designed button for that but you will have to change the navbar links and sequnce through your admincp=>Style&Templates=>Edit Templates
If that suits you, please let me know so I can supply you with a designed Forum button.

No problem about that, I can provide you with a different template XML file to do this job for you in a simple way, but in that case we will have to replace one of the current navbar buttons with the new "Forum"button, so which button do you want the "forum"button to replace?

Thanks CBE for your post and your question. To change this color please follow the next steps:
1- Go to your admincp
2- Expand the tab named "Styles & Templates"
3- Choose "Style Manager"
4- Press the "Go"button next to FH_Shams
5- Scroll down the page till you find "First Alternating Color"
6- You will find the first option in this box named "Background" with a number in the box beside it, change this number to the number of the color you want to change it to.
7- Click "Save CSS" and that's it ;)

Maybe not the right place but can you tell me how i get rid of the part with te forum name and welcome message... The surfers should use the buttons for that and it looks better..

Thank you Dirk for your post. This part is the nav bar and you can find it in a template called navbar after you choose to edit the template. But I think that you should keep that part as it shows the link for private messages and without it things won't look alright.

I forgot I should turn that off in vBadvanced. Another thing i need is the style to be a bit wider but everything I try keeps messing it all up. Any change you can help me with that and make it 100 pix wider ?

Thank you for your post, trying to change the width of this skin will not work as it is a fixed width skin. But I will probably release another fluid version of the skin soon.

I want to use this in a forum area that has users that only access this area, but I still want global users to be able to link back using global links?

Warlock40 thanks for your post, adding extra links is done normally by adding HTML code to the navbar template under FH_Shams style. It will be a bit complicated if you are not familiar with coding.

desiforums, glad that you like the skin . There are two well known kinds of vbulletin skins, fixed width skins and fluid width skins. The fixed width skins, can't go more wide because graphics are designed to show in a fixed width and if the width is changed, things will not look ok and this is the case in Shams style ;)

IM new to VB styles, and I think I got REAL lucky with finding shams.

I do have a few questions, and I hope there not rookie "duhs".

How do I make the font on my parent topic headers BOLD?

I have an arcade, and a (soon to be) chat on my page? How would I get matching buttons for them?

I dont believe the skin gives you any props. If you would like to have a "design by" link , I would have no issue with that.

No your questions are not rookie questions and you can ask about whatever you want to know.
As for changing the font, please follow the following steps:
1- Login to your forum admin cp
2- Expand the Styles & Templates tab that can be found on the left menu
3- Click on Style Manager
4- A page will appear with all the styles you have in your forum
5- Click on the "Go" button beside the Shams Style
6- A New page will show up, scroll down this page till you find "Tabel Header"
7- You will find an option name "Font Size" , change this font size according to your needs.
and that's it. BTW this can be done to any other style.

As for the buttons, I will design them and post them here tommorow ;)
