Custom Avatar Fields

I wanted to add an avatar option that would pull an image based on another field filled in (halo 2 emblem, based on gamertag). I can get the custom userfield into the avatar page, and the avatar as an option, but i cant actually get it to upload the image.

I'm sure it's just something stupid that i'm missing. If someone could lend a hand that would be great.
