As a coder I don't like to write a hack that already exists. First, it is rude to the original hack author, and second it is a waste of my time. However, I find it increasingly difficult to find out if a hack I want to create already exists.

I'm not saying I have a solution, but I'm openning the problem up to the community. Members have the same problem finding hacks I'm sure, meaning they may never find the hack they are looking for.

Better tagging, hack specific search tools? Thoughts everyone?

Would personally like to see a list of hack titles on a page somewhere, linked to the thread ..... Literally just a list, perhaps catagoriesed by type.

With the new tag, database system I should imagine this is easy enough to do....

Just seems to me a plain list can sometimes be easier to have a quick browse through than looking through forums, using search, or using the database if your not sure on what your looking for

I have searched, created a hack, and then found it already existed from a tester. So I would have to agree.

Hehe. One day after I released a template mod a similar (but plugin version) was released. :)

I think there are situations that having similar hacks can be beneficial. More likely the codes are not identical and the features may vary. It gives people options.

As for a better way to search, I'm for it. I'm not sure how viable it is to redo the search engine or standardizing mod titles. A page directory is a good suggestion, however.
