**Before Making An Add on **
Please consult with me before making an add on to this hack. As it is my work and such, the add ons that you are trying to make for it may be in the next release and/or premium version.

* There was a problem with a code that made it so that if you didn't have an image in an ad and then edited that ad to include an image, it overwrote noimage.gif (which is not good!). This was fixed!
* Ad ID Number now shows in an ad
* Price now shows in an ad

What does this do?
This hack gives you a classified ad system. Multiple categories can be created and users can post ads in these categories. Other users can then rate them and give them feedback accordingly.

What features does this hack provide?
Main page with statistics, categories, recent activity, etc.
Ability to arrange ads in categories
Categories can have their own images
See how many total, closed, and open ads are in each category.
Ratings and category counts are automatically rebuilt
After the timeframe of the ad is up, the ad is closed
Add new classified ads with images, description, title, and more!
Users have their own page where feedback and such shows.
Paypal button is automatically generated if the user enters a paypal email address. Clicking this button will allow the user to buy whatever the other user is selling.
Add extra fields to ads
Ability to edit and delete ads
Control everything from the amount of results showing per page in searches, to the size of thumbnails.
GIF, JPG, and PNG images are supported.
Search through ads

Step 1. Import the following product: product-sr_classifieds.xml
Step 2. Upload the files in the upload folder.
Step 3. CHMOD the sr_classifieds/uploaded folder and sr_classifieds/uploaded/thumbnails folder to 777

It should work with any version and i don't see any drawbacks. I may actually plan on creating a vb module for this.

This may be something with your site and another hack. I tried updating permissions on both my site and someone else's and got no error. However, i will look into this.

It's supposed to put an image by default, did it not?

I just checked on my site and i had a little problem with it not setting a default image. I will update the zip. To fix this on your existing ad, just upload any image or delete and redo the ad.

Zip updated, you can just reupload sr_classifieds.php if you'd like.

Also, i just fixed a problem where if your image was the default image, it deleted the default image when the ad was deleted. This isn't good because then you will have no default image! Anyways, the problem with that has been fixed as well. If the Last Update: date shows green to you, then make sure to re-install the hack by overwriting products and files!.

That's just an uneeded comma. Replace the sr_classifieds_admin.php with the one i uploaded here. I will update the zip now.

If you edited the usergroup permissions accordingly or you are the maker of the ad, it should show fine. It's showing on my site.

Wow. I was setting one permission in usergroup settings and then calling the wrong one in the file lol. Sorry about that guys.

If you already have this installed just either uninstall the product and reupload files and product or run this query:
ALTER TABLE ". TABLE_PREFIX ."usergroup DROP sr_classifieds

And then re upload just product.

Sorry, but I'm a bit lost. I just installed this, have set user permissions and turned SR Classfieds on, but all I get is the link in the nav bar that takes me to sr_classifieds.php. I don't see any of the administrative features and don't know how to create cats or new ads.

You create cats in the admincp and post new ads in the main page (once categories are added).

If you uploaded the files right, there should be a "SR Classifieds" section in the admincp, as shown in the screenshot.

I've noticed there really is an issue with the attachments. But it's a bizarre one.
In my earlier post, I stated.. "Nevermind, it's working now"
But I don't think it is. I uploaded a second ad, and added a different image but it ended up having the same image as the other ad. Does that make sense? So two ads had the same image, but I uploaded two different images.

Now if I open the image on it's own, it actually is "noimage.gif".. that's the url the site is pointing to. Why or how it swapped "noimage.gif" with the uploaded file, I have no idea.. lol

But it's bizarre. Is anyone else having this problem, or am I just losing my mind?

You can view the adid in the broswer. I will make the template modification to include it somewhere when viewing the ad. And yes, it does check the ad. Also, when you say a feedback link somewhere to have it automatically filled.. that's a good idea. Why have the link in the user profile? Why not just in the ad since that's what they will be submitting feedback for anyways. This will be looked into :p

This script is not integrated with individual forums. This makes it so that you have your own classified section on your site. I will probably make it on the premium version so that it shows the categories and counts and such on forumindex if the admin will like.

Edit: I just noticed that you edited your post with another question. That field is made like that because that field is only for numbers. Because of the integration with paypal and such, that field needs to be numbers only. Also, it's an INT field in mysql. INT fields only detect numbers.

I forgot to tell you guys had to add the new task, so unless you noticed the file and created it yourself, you probably didn't add it. Anyways, i added this to the readme:


Go to your admincp, then go to scheduled tasks >> Add New Scheduled Task

Set the values as follows:

Also, when you click on the add and view it, there is nothing showing the price, you have to click back to the listing to see it, Is this meant to be like that?

That may be a feature in the premium version.

this Note: The price field should not have a $ symbol. Putting a $ symbol will result in your price being 0. I need to chage the wording is all m8, specifically the $ to ? for obvious reasons im sure lol (laff out loud) ;)

Also, when you click on the add and view it, there is nothing showing the price, you have to click back to the listing to see it, Is this meant to be like that?

Would be nice to see the pice in the actual ad itself?

Try reuploading the files from the zip i uploaded about 5 minutes ago. I think that's the editing an ad problem i fixed.

The light version only allows adding a field to one category at a time. The premium version will allow for multiple categories.

I just posted an ad called "troy", at first it had a picture of the movie troy, then i changed it. I didn't get any errors at all. Give it a shot..

Also, deleting an ad is an option. However, it doesn't function with your site because of your javascript errors. The only thing you can do i guess is change this:
<div><a href=javascript:deletead(); >Delete This Ad</a></div>

To this:
<div><a href="sr_classifieds.php?do=deletead&adid=$ad[classifiedid]" >Delete This Ad</a></div>

The only thing is that like that you don't even get a message, it'll just delete it straight. However, until you clear up the existing errors on your site, you will need to do it that way.

Result would be 2 payments made from 2 members for 1 item, this would no doubt cause loads of hassle with members claiming to of paid first etc..

This script is not integrated with individual forums. This makes it so that you have your own classified section on your site. I will probably make it on the premium version so that it shows the categories and counts and such on forumindex if the admin will like.

Yeah, you're right. If one description is longer than the others it throws everything out of whack. Couldn't they be setup to take up 50% each?

I just noticed a different problem. I've been using Firefox and just tested it in IE as well and noticed the path to the nocat image is: http://www.yoursite.com/images/misc/nocatimage.gif. Firefox doesn't show the empty placeholder, so I hadn't noticed this before.

I've been looking through the templates, but I can find anywhere to change this path.

Hehe. That was a simple arithmetic problem. Incase you were wondering, what happened was this. The width of the tables were set using this equation:

$catwidth = 1/$catsperrow;

So when you have 1/1(you set one category per row), it gives you 1, instead of 100. And even when you have 2 per row, it gives you .5 instead of 100. The quation has been changed to:

$catwidth = 1/$catsperrow * 100;

And now it gives you 100 if you set 1 and 50 if you set 2. Anyways, just thought i'd share that lol. You can either redownload the zip and upload that sr_classifieds.php or take the one i'll attach for you here.

Here's another IE problem for you. When viewing the ad in Firefox the image appears fine, but in IE the space is blank. The thumbnail displays fine in the random ads as well as the cat listing, but not when viewing the ad. The problem was the same with the default image and after I uploaded a new image.

No, i found the problem :p.

What happened is that sometimes the image is actually smaller that the thumb you want, so i made it so that if the image is smaller that the thum you want, it just uses the normal image (no sense in making it bigger and loosing quality). The problem with this is that then $newheight and $newwidth weren't set. Anyways, it should be fixed by just overwriting this file.

The premium version will have more usergroup permissions to make it so that certain groups can/can't access certain things. So that will allow for what you are saying. Also, would you like to be added to the list of people to be contacted once it's out?

For instance I would like that script for my cat site, where classifieds are mostly for adoptions of from people that want to adopt cats. What I am trying to say is that you should have an open mind while developing, the script should be flexible.

The premium version will have more usergroup permissions to make it so that certain groups can/can't access certain things. So that will allow for what you are saying. Also, would you like to be added to the list of people to be contacted once it's out?

Noticed that in the Add a Field Box it indicates to insert the category number to include the field in, however, all I have is a drop down box with all the categories...how do we specify the specific categories if there are multiple?

Also, in the category manager when changing the display number and hitting save...it says that category &^^#*&$ has been saved??

Actually, if you set usergroup not registered to be able to use the system, they can view things. However, they will never be able to post new ads :p

As for the category manager thing, i will look into it, however, i assure you that (if you haven't already noticed) it doesn't effect functionability. Just a little phrase problem.

And for selecting multiple categories for fields... that will be in the premium version. This version only allows a one category per field.

Additional details is only if you add new fields. I guess i should make it so that that doesn't even show if there's no new fields.

As for changing the timeframe.... i did that on purpose. Via template manager you can edit the timeframes in which people can choose and such. Therefore, i figured some people may want to limit or change it around and not allow users to change it :p I will probably make it so that mods and such can change it though for premium.

I will be looking into this. I've been familiarizing myself with the paypal callback system. I needed to get the hang of it in order to create the system for selling my scripts. Therefore, i should be able to use mynew knowledge to incorporate paypal more for the premium version.

That's not a bug. the light version only allows one category per field. I'm not sure why i didn't edit the definition to take out the "seperate category Id's by commas". Maybe i just wanted to tease you all for the premium version :p Hehe

The script works great! I notice that the text box where we add the Classified body does not retain line breaks without HTML (so I have to use <p>). I would love a WYSIWYG system.

I also really need the abuility to post a URL in a custom field (in drop down possible to make abilityHTML an option?).

I tried adding a really long custom field (100-char) and I notice that there is a limit to how much text can be added (looks like 85-char). I am trying to post a link to other parts of my forums as a custom field and I need more like 100-char and perhaps as much as 120...

I hope the premium will allow for Admin defined classified ad limits or NO LIMITS for time a classified lasts (Group defined would be GREAT!!!!)...

I would love to see a SOLD indicator so that when a person sells their item that they can edit their ad and click a "SOLD" button to mark it SOLD plus remove the ad from the search. This way a person can finish their transaction and if it doesn't work out they can reactivate their ad without reentering it.

I would like a way for Admins or Moderators to LOCK an advertisement to prevent user changes... actually, I would like the option to only allow edits to the ad for X-hours (set in Admin CP) so that a seller can not edit their post after it is listed - only marked SOLD as described above. Admins and Mods should be able to edit or delete anything.


Otherwise, I am still trying to learn how to use this...

After getting this setup I think I'm going to have to wait for the premium version with forum integration. But I want to keep this installed so I can easily upgrade when the premium version is released. Is there an easy way to disable the link the nav bar without completely removing it?

I just know that if there is no indication of the ads on the main forum page my members will never bother to click on the link to see what's for sale. But if they're visiting the forums and notice a new post in the classifieds forum they will always have a look. Any idea of a release date yet?

I think that the fields added have enough space to support a link. Also, as for the templates, keep in mind that it's different with everyone's template :p.

I have to get a classifieds system VERY soon, so hopefully the premium version will fit the bill (I might need 3-5 of them).

The premium version will hopefully be a lot more paypal integrated and have it so that once a user buys something, it logs in in the database and then i guess i can do a check when giving feedback.

As for the release date, i am working extremely hard. It should be comming out very soon. The set price is going to be about $35.

You edit your database with phpmyadmin for example.

Find the sr classifieds table with your extra fields and go to structure mode.

Set fieldID to be the primary key.


This allows multiple fields with the same name to be displayed.

Add a new field with all the info selected, hit submit, then hit the back button, change the category to the next one you'd like it to appear in and hit submit... do the over and over until you have the field in every category.

You'll end up with, for example, 5 fields with the same name, which show up in 5 different categories.

It's the simplest way without modifying the code.

also, will there be an option (in lite and premium) to change the member contact abilities to pm instead of email? currently, the member info shows "send a message via email to..." some people may not like the fact that they can be emailed regarding transactions and prefer being contacted via the pm system instead.... maybe have this observe the vb native user options instead (usually people have email disabled in usercp, but have pm on, or the other way around)? but if that were the case, I think it's wise to actually force users to enable one or both forms of private contacting in usercp, otherwise deny their access to SR classifieds

Sorry, I wasn't clear... My issue isn't the length of the variable (set at 100-char) but an issue with how many items I can add to the pick list (I didn't count but say 30-states as opposed to 50)...

Now, when I go into the database I see that the way this is set up that the table "classifieds_fields" has the type defined as "SELECT" and options type is set as varchar(200). I think I need to change this to mediumtext....

The problem is it looks like that would requre that I change all the fields to Mediumtext which will make this pretty large (size wise)...

EDIT: Changing it to MEDIUMTEXT fixed my problem

Just installed on test site, working perfectly except one thing...

My uploaded images are not readable. Getting CHMODDED to 600. Thumbs are fine. Those are CHMODDED at 644 and show up.

Images are there on server, in both places, just not viewable in full item listing.

If I manually CHMOD the files to 644 or 777, they show up in ad listing.

/uploaded and /uploaded/thumbnails directories are CHMOD to 777. Double checked that.

Any idea what's triggering this?

It sounds like a problem with your ftp/CHMOD.

Have 4 other browser based image upload scripts running in various non-VB programs, all similar to yours, plus the VB attachment features running in a file system on my main and on my test. Same server, same domain/folders. Those work.

Ill keep checking on my end, Im just letting you know that all things here point toward a script issue.

That's probably because of that authorization issue you're having.

However, that doesnt make any sense why one file type would not be defined while others are and work within the same exact file, and why only one folder on entire server has file creation issues, the one that stores the images created from this upload script.

The images in the thumbnail folder are created by the upload script as well. I really don't know why it isn't working for you. It's worked for everyone else. Perhaps i can take a look at your ftp if you'd like.

I am using GD as my Image Processing library... is there a chance you are using ImageMagick?

Maybe it's the template cache hack. Try disabling it and see.

That's because i made the cellspacing 0. You can change that in the template if you'd like. I just thought it looks better that way.

yeah, I noticed that already... it seems that you have to enter HTML tags to make it happen.... meaning, non WYSISYG... I'm also assuming it does not respect any vb code like you would when making a regular forum post


also, will there by any means for the seller to "close" a sell early? like if an item was sold.... or perhaps the buyer bought something, and the ad is automatically closed... like how you would when you click "buy it now" on ebay.... then the sale information is automatically stored in the database and would automatically show up in a "feedback not left for users" list when you want to leave a feedback.... also related to it, if that was done, how about locking down on what type of feedbacks can be left? I mean, if the buyer clicked "buy" in an ad, and wants to leave a feedback relating to that ad, it should only be a "buyer" type feedback, and vice versa if it was the seller.... this way, feedback abuse can be reduced compared to itrader... how about a feedback main page for users so they can see/manage them? Will there be a way for users to reply to feedbacks? How about "ask seller a question" type stuff?

Can you help me figure out which template? Cellspacing is used in many of your script and it seems to be used as a variable (cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" ) most of the time...

When viewing someone's profile in SR Classifieds, if you are an admin, there is a delete option.

Nope, she respects vB as well as HTML (I need to verify if eveybody can do HTML as I have a hack in my site that allows me and only me to do html...) The problem is that once they post in HTML the script converts it to vB code and when you go back to edit it again you now have vB code---> Actually a good thing IMHO

I believe that the loss of white space could also be happening in sr_classifieds.php itslef as that is where this whole HTML -> vB modification happens...

I need to get a fresh copy of what I have so far over on my development server as I am getting too anxious with my code hacks trying to get this resolved!

I installed v1.0.2 on a development install of vb3.5.0 and I'm getting this error that was posted on page one when I attempt to change a usergroup's permission...

Hey guys,

In case anyone else has the full sized images not showing up CHMOD 600 issue ...

In functions_sr_classifieds_upload.php there is a line saying:

if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'], $uploadfile)) {

change that to

if (copy($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'], $uploadfile)) {

And files will upload with proper CHMODDING, and show up in the listings.

Apparently this is a result of the version of PHP and the variables set in your PHP.ini. Makes sense because none of the scripts similar to this i've run use the move_file command, all used the copy. Hence my WTF hair pulling yesterday. I didnt even want to begin messing with my server wide or site wide settings, but this worked, so Im good.

Hopefully anyone else experiencing this down the road can use this.

Yea, the <br> is not in the original template...

Try looking for this:

$vbphrase[posts]: $post[posts]

I posted this earlier in the thread but I guess it wasn't updated... remember to add the <br> before the code you are adding or it will be on the same line.

I just noticed that this does not seem to have any limits on file or image size yet and that the image display is just a reduced version of the image uploaded to the server... It is pretty important that the users can not upload huge images so I would suggest a maximum file (memory or height/width) size check be incorporated in the CP at some point...

I believe it's because of the vb version. Try editing sr_classifieds.php and search for:
