I'm not really coder, so this isnt elaborate or complex, but it works well and i thought it would be cool to share with you guys.

What it Does

This minor template mod add's in some rules about what should be reported and what shouldn't and forces user's to agree to these terms before they can report a post.

Install Time - 2 mins.
1 template rewrite
2 phrases to add.

Credit also goes to my good friend MooMan65 who helped me tweak this one :)

Since i dont release alot of my mods please click install if you actually install this one :)

D'oh

thanks man ive updated it :)

i just made it cuz, i dunno about on other forums, but on mine people were reporting posts for stupid things, like slightly aggressive posts.. large signitures.. even had one guy report a post becuase it had a TYPO in it :| seriously.. i just got sick of it.

anyway like i said, i think its a neat feature and am glad to share it with y'all.

Cool, some of my members have been abusing our post report system!

One problem I encountered in the Installation instructions... the code you supply to replace the report_bad_post template with has

$vbphrase[report_warning]

But your instructions say to add the phrase report_warn

Simple fix, but just thought I'd let ya know!

Would be cool if this warning only apeared every month or every week.
Its kinda annoying when good people report and have to click agree each time. Could leed to a slow down on reports.

Cya, great mod!

Will this template change interfear with the start new thread for reported post hack ?

no.

i take it your referring to Paul M's hack (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=83074)?

if so, i have this hack installed and working on my boards which i created and tested mine on, so i can quite safely say they work well together :)

I've been getting an awful lot of stupid reported posts lately, mostly from my mods who don't like one particular member. I'll have to check this out.

This could also have an adverse effect by actualy making members NOT report posts that should be reported in case they break a rule themselves.

Your rules should be very clear and understandable if you are going to use this.

I used a similar edit myself a while back and we ended up with posts that were left by members and missed by mods due to members being too scared to report it incase they lost thier accounts.

no offense buddy but your rules should be clear anyway and your mods should be vigilant and not depending on members reporting posts to you :p

No offense taken but it is not a point of your rules being clear as tbh next to no one reads rules anyhow.

The point is its like saying to someone report anything that breaks the rules but if you break the rules when reporting then you will suffer the concequences.

Hardly incentive is it, and as for mods they can not be expected to watch every thread that is made especialy on a very busy forum. I am thankful sometimes for members who point out things that we from time to time totaly miss. I have many members on my board who are happy to advise me on the legalitys of certain threads, thus helping me decide if they should be terminated or steared into another path, learn to love your members - ooooerrrrr lol

You have to balance your moderation otherwise you end up having Mods that are seen by members as Gestapo like and this in turn scares members into not wanting to post, the result is no posts and a dead forum.

I aint just picking fault I am speaking from experience IMHO when you start to impose rules on everything members do on the board then they just go elsewhere.

I am just putting my point across to stop my fellow vb'ers from making similar mistakes and being seen by thier members as 'rules for this and rules for that'.

I personaly removed the system I had in place and now welcome my members input no matter how trivial is may seem at the time, this way I have already stopped 'Iffy' threads in thier tracks before they break the rules.

well like i said this hack probally isnt for everyone, but when members reprot posts for having TYPO's or slightly large signiture images.. i take that as too trivial..

Okay this is awesome. however I have a request.

Can you make the reported post get pmed not just emailed, that would be really cool as all my staff have been asking for it.

Thanks
