View Full Version : Number of coders

I think it would be very interesting to show the number of coders, advanced coders and master coders somewhere.
I know it is easy, and it will just add one query so why not? ;)

I agree, would be nice to have the entire list of coders / advanced coders / master together on the forum leaders page.

No I wasn't asking exactly for this. I was asking for sth much easier.
In the forumhome statistics members: X, Coders: Y, Advanced Coders: X, Master Coders: W
Something like that ;)

Yeah that would be quite cool. But don’t forget about poor old ‘Purple’ (like you did with queries) if you implement this :D

For some reason that image is very blurred here, but I *think* the top coders and mods per month seem to be based simply on number of hacks released, rather than number of installs, I think installs is a more accurate representation of 'top'. :)

well, there would qualify a few more, but the count is based just up on usertitles right now (was lazy) and so admins/staff members or other special users are excluded from that count

Perhaps some type of Coder List. - EX: Top 100/50/10 Block or page ?
$navbar
vb2.x | vb3.x | vb3.5x | All
List
- Master (master, adv, coder, template master, template adv, template coder)
Name | Hacks | Installs | Latest Release
- Adv (master, adv, coder, template master, template adv, template coder)
Name | Hacks | Installs | Latest Release
** The names link to profiles the latest releases links to the thread.
** Vb2.x | vb3.x | vb3.5x | All links to lists w/ those stats only. - Default : All
I guess I'm part of the 1/16th group as well. How many installs are need to go from group to group? I just made a rough count that I have over 2,300 installs on all my hacks together.

well, personally i'd like to use a higher value, but we just had 15 Master Coders, so i think the ammount was well chosen ;)

It obviously isn't any more, it's now gone down.
(assuming you did mean all 20 hacks had to have at least 50 installs)
The new designer titles means there were a lot of changes on how things are done in the code. In other words the old way was thrown out the window. ;)
Xenon
04-06-2006, 12:20 AM
Well, the system was 20 hacks and 1000 installs totally were needed.
and yes, i say was, because we deeply changed the system now into a way more complex formula :)

Ahh. I'd thought of doing a bit searching before opening a new topic regarding the "Designer" title.
Template mods and styles have their place which are separate from other categories, at least I've always thought. I'm still a bit taken back but I think it's cool. :)

So how many people have each of the designer titles?
I like my new title BTW :) I was getting a bit fed up being stuck at coder and having way more releases and installs than a lot of the advanced coders.
[EDIT] I found it, and for anyone else that wants to know, at the time of this post it is:
Coder: 386, Advanced Coder: 46, Master Coder: 11, Designer: 118, Advanced Designer: 11, Master Designer: 6

Ah, you're a man after my own heart there then. I can't draw to save my life. A really good picture involves a pic of a sheep that a 2 year old could do better. But I'm good at coding things to make it look better or move things to more logical places. Just never ask for a mock-up of something first, coz it won't happen.

Being both a professional designer and a coder here on vb.org, i can defend both sides.
When you first go to a site, no matter how good it works, you won't stay at it for more than 5 seconds unless it looks good. The design of a site shows everything from professionalism, to purpose, to how much you can trust the site.
Now, no matter how good the site looks, a user would not go back to it unless they have a reason to be there. This is where coding kicks in. Scripts and such coded by coders give users options and things to do at the site.
With that being said, you can't really compare a coder to a designer. However, i think it is safe to say that they are equal in importance.

Nicely put. I'll add a twist to what gio~logist said as well. I'll come from a designer's perspective. It's quite early in the morning (3:53am) so I hope this post will translate well. :)
vBulletin comes equipt with the necessary functions/features to run a successful forum. It takes the effort of the staff, members, content and the overall feel of the community that determines if the site/forum reaches its potential. Part of the feel, however, has to do with the design/layout.
I've had many users register and become members because of the site/forum design, which changes routinely over time. The majority of the compliments also involves the design. At least for a gaming site, changing the layout, modifying the colors and adding graphics do make a difference that sets the competition apart.
Additional modifications are there to enhance the users' experiences and functions of the site/forum. To be true, the design is also an enhancement. Neither of the two will make the site/forum successful; they're basically the icing to an already tasty cake. If the cake is bland to begin with, there's not much a modification or design can do.
Nice page now. Any way to can add to the stats installs? Like the top 3 users with the most people installing thiers hacks.
