I'm not a coder or graphic designer, just your average Joe so take my opinion for what it is...BUT the only problem I saw was that your background made the site slightly hard to read. Need more contrast IMHO...other than that everything looks good.

The background does make it a bit harder to read, however, if it suites your style and the style of the band, then I think you did a well enough job.
I would, however, at least let guests read threads, unless you specifically have the forums private for a reason. Any forum I visit that doesn't let me at least read through the posts doesn't get much more attention from me.

it's quite slow to load, and I agree that text on the background is pretyt much impossible to read.
Personally, I'd be creating boxes round the text and using either your alt1 or alt2 color as backgorunds for them to make the text readable. I'd also lighten the font in the tcat as it's a bit close to the tcat background. Making it the same as the font in thead would work a lot better.
Apart from earlier comments about letting guests read threads, I'd give it a 6/10. If you make a couple more changes to enhance readability, then I'd give it probably a 8/10.

the background image has to go, you can't read the red text in the banner on the right..
whats the site about ? I suggest the welcome message mod, that you can post what the site is for..
you need to let guest see something, otherwise you might as well forget about any search engines paying attention to your site..
and speaking of that, I'd look into some SEO work,, check out vbwebmasters.com.com they have good articles on how to tweak your site for SEO..
other then that I can't say much cuz I didn't see how the post look, or see any content.
I can only suggest to let guest see something that will have articles about your keywords and key topic.. I'm running a site for some bands too, its the first link in my sig, but I want search engines to have all my site info,, then when a user searches for " the band name" they hopefully get my site ;)

suggestion taken about letting guests read threads-i've changed it so they can :) i have no real reason to keep it private.
about not being able to read the text-i take it you mean the text at the bottom of the forum, outside of the actual threads and replies? honestly its not really an issue-i figure as long as people can read the relevent things-threads and repliesa nd who's online and forum titles, ect-the other stuff isn't really important to me.
to the person who asked what the site's about-it says so in my first post, it's about the band Dirty Pretty Things :)
thanks for the feedback all :)

Just a little point, as you can't read the copyright text on your Gin and Milk style it could possible raise an issue with your licence, so I'd recommend fixing at least that bit. Also your header image isn't linked and the link is display above it. It's easy enough to fix by just moving the link code round the image code.
Apart from that, looks good. I also like your other style
