View Full Version : Quick Reply - to modify the appearance of the waiting text
Allan

What this does:
It's a little mod for custom vBulletin, more mainly, text which appears when to reply in quick reply (Quick Reply System).
In your ACP, check "Languages & Phrases" => "Search in Phrases" (../forum/admincp/phrase.php?do=search), choose "Phrase Text and Phrase Variable Name":
Check this variable: "posting_quick_reply_please_wait"
Replace text:
"Posting Quick Reply - Please Wait"
By:
"<center><img src="http://www.your-site.com/forum/images/misc/loading.gif" alt="" /></center>" (before, upload Attach Files "loading.gif" in your file: "../forum/images/misc")
Before:
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/6994/screen11sm.gif
After:
http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/3092/screen25sp.gif
(Of course, animated image ^^)
:banana: , it's little mod :p

These would be cool if they could be made transparent:

Or this one without the telenor stuff:

You could use a proggy like Adobe CS
Then use the magicwand, invert and cut then paste into a new image :)
Then again, you loose the animation, you would have to renimate it :(
Im working on it lol

Otherwise, nice idea to have both image and text. ;)

No, that one's not as clean as the original... the rectangle box became "dotted" and you also got rid of the 1/4 mark lines? Would love the image to stay the same, just without white background:

Hey, and here's a way to add the same "progress graphic" to the Quick Edit, Advanced, and Delete Buttons...
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=931415
I incorporated Allan's tip (giving credit where credit is due of course) here. (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=931458&postcount=6)
Works great!

Allan, in that other thread, Brad came up with a way to have different "loading" graphics for each style:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=931639&postcount=13
That would help as my skins are all so different.
Any way to enhance your hack to allow for the same?

Oh, and for April Fool's I'm thinking of changing my "loading" graphic to this:

Yes, no problem, just modify phrases to template of Brad:
- $vbphrase[post_wait_loo]
- $vbphrase[delete_wait_loo]
- $vbphrase[bigreply_wait_loo]
Change it with my modifications and work ;)

Huh? I'm confused by this response. Modify Brad's phrases? His are working fine and use different graphics for each skin.
Now I'd like to be able to use different graphics for the Quick Reply on each skin.
Wouldn't I modify the "posting_quick_reply_please_wait" phrase?
Allan
03-22-2006, 08:18 AM
No, you have to modify the phrases to Brad hack (in her hack)
this phrases:
- post_wait_loo
- delete_wait_loo
- bigreply_wait_loo

Wouldn't I modify the "posting_quick_reply_please_wait" phrase?
Open the SHOWTHREAD template, find:
<div align="center" id="qr_posting_msg" style="display:none; margin-top:6px">
<strong>$vbphrase[posting_quick_reply_please_wait]</strong>
</div>
Replace with:
<div align="center" id="qr_posting_msg" style="display:none; margin-top:6px">
<img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/loading.gif" alt="$vbphrase[posting_quick_reply_please_wait]" border="0" />
</div>
Now edit the phrase 'posting_quick_reply_please_wait' so it reads:
Posting Quick Reply - Please Wait
No, you have to modify the phrases to Brad hack (in her hack)
I'm a guy ;)
Also there is no need to futher modify my modification, as the instructions I posted do not even use the phrases to get the image. Instead mine uses a hidden div that is shown when buttons are clicked in the quick edit. What I posted above is basically the same but it piggy backs off the one already there to unhide the text.

Thanks Brad, works a treat.
I still wanted the text underneath the graphic, so I actually replaced it with this:
<div align="center" id="qr_posting_msg" style="display:none; margin-top:6px">
<img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/loading.gif" alt="$vbphrase[posting_quick_reply_please_wait]" border="0" />
<br /><strong>$vbphrase[posting_quick_reply_please_wait]</strong>

3.6.4 already has a loading/spinning graphic when doing Quick Reply... most likely inspired by this hack. :p
EDIT: Yup, looks like Floris liked this and related hacks too... here's (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=931663&postcount=14) where he said he'd add it into 3.6 by default.
