I've searched around for the last 30 mins and can't find anything like this, which has suprised me.

The scenario is that I want to allow traders to advertise on my site. To do this, I want to build up a Yahoo! style directory of links, which users can add into the site.

To do this they would have to subscribe to the relevant trader subscription & then when they are have done so, they are moved to the trader group (automatically). Only the trader group (& admins of course) can add links into the directory, along with a description & button if they wish.

I wouldn't have thought it would be too hard to do, just wondering if anyone has done such a hack and wishes to share it?

Here's what you do:

1) Create new usergroup entitled "Trader" or whatever you want.
2) Auto-send publication or whatever you wish to them via ACP if its email. If its via snailmail, then turn on usergroup validation for it, and when reviewing join requests, make members give you the relevant info to send it to them.
3) Install vBa Links Directory (http://www.vbadvanced.com/products.php?do=productinfo&p=2). I has usergroup support, so you can only allow admins and "traders" to post links if you wish.

Thanks for that - sadly, it doesn't appear to be a 3.5xx compatible addon. Otherwise it looks nearly perfect for what I want!

Might explain why I didn't find it on here, its $34!

MGSteve, it is 3.5.x compatable. Its worth the money IMHO. Still, if its too expensive for you, this hack (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=91107&highlight=links+download) might suffice.
