View Full Version : Currently Active Users' Avatar

I take NO credit for this as it is just a modification of amykhar's wonderful plugin "Show an Avatar on Who's Online Above the Username (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=94671)".
I had to modify amykhar's mod for a board I admin. In my forum, small headshots of the user are used as avatars and everyone knows each other by face (it is a local sorority type group). If you hover over the avatar, the name will show up and link you to that member's profile.
Thus, instead of the user's name under Forumhome > What's Going On > Currently Active Users, you see the member's avatar.

Nice hack. Definitely not for large boards though.

Nice hack, although I agree that this won't be such a good idea for users with particuarly active forums.

Installed, looks great! (Small forum here.)
EDIT: Quick question; how do we get rid of the comma that separates each avatar? It would look better without the comma.

Quickie suggestion/request: I'd love to see the same thing, but for "Today's Birthday's" just underneath. In that case, ideally I'd be able to retain the user name:
Avatar - Name (Age)

does anyone know where the birthday template or bit is located? i can try to see if i can make it work if i can only find where it calls that information.

I thought it was in FORUMHOME?

nope. it calls a variable like $birthdaybits or something like that. but i'm not sure where that is.

to remove commas
Just be sure to replace the comma with a space and not delete it.

Could this be amended so it shows the users avatar only when the mouse is moved over the person's name on the current online users list?

That would make it useful for very active forums. But then again it would call for another thing from the DB.

that would be way cool. however, that type of coding is way beyond me. :knockedout:

Is it possible to put the users name after their avatar?
