Which way do you prefer on forumdisplay??
Paul M

Not bothered, but I hate the last post dates at the end in the search results, the forum should be the last column. :)
'In it's own column' for me, looks smarter :)
But lets no forget that things will be changed around with the hack DB.
Thanks,
Mat

Wow. This new way is a complete turn off. I hate it.

it's an extra column (more code) that is not needed ... on the upside, there's a lot of white-space which makes things easier on the eye

Why not make it user selectable via a custom profile field? https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

hmm, personally i don't like it myself as it leads to multipleline forumnames...

While we are at it ... I prefer the thread/post count on the right of LAST POST.

Get rid of the thread starter column :( it doesn't need its own!

Ya go ahead and put it back under thread title ;)

I agree though

Merged.
We'll see how things go over the next few days. Obviously I prefer it begin a fan of the vB2 style threadbits.

i vote under the thread title

It's fine the way it is, so voted the first option :)

It's much nicer just tucked under the thread title. When I scroll through the listing, I decide which threads to read through based on the subject or content.. not who started the topic. That column being off by itself now just gets in the way.
Good question. ;)

The thread starter coloum on the right in Dark Blue, was that moved there intentionally?

Yes.

Oppsie.. Didn't see this thread. :tired: I say place it back under the thread title. I hate it this new way. ;)

The least you can do is allow the user to change it. ._. This new look sucks majorly.
More trouble then it's worth to me. Like I said I'll wait a few days to see what people think and decide if I'll change it back or not.

I prefer it this way. It's easier when you search for a particular thread manually and you remember who posted it :)
Logikos
03-10-2006, 03:34 AM
Maybe make it as a user option is the best solution. ;)
Lea Verou
03-10-2006, 03:36 AM
I think it's too trivial to become a user option
PS: Livewire why did you change your avatar? :( The previous one was much nicer :(

I absolutely HATE it in its own column. It seems more natural to have it under the thread title.

What I dislike about this new way is that ir reminds me of stupid phpBB. It's like admitting that it has something better than vb

It doesn't bother me either way, but it does seem a bit pointless and a waste of space.

I shall see if I can get used to the new way, have to say imo atm it was better below the title, helps identify hacks easier with it their, but then Im a lazy ass and dont wanna look all that way to the right on my 25 ft projector :p

I personally prefer it under the thread title.. :)

I'm starting to dislike it - I find I keep looking at it and mistaking it for the last poster.

lol, im like a few others.. dont care either way.. but honestly it does 'look' better under the thread title..
I like how the profile that list your hacks is cleaned up, single rows are a welcome change ;)

how it got it's own column considering the poll results is beyond me :\

I prefer the old way: under the thread name :)

how it got it's own column considering the poll results is beyond me :\Read...Think...Post
Maybe it is because the poll was started after the change was made to see how people like it.
Also check other posts in this thread where Staff say that we will run this for a couple of days at least before making a decission.
PS You really should work with it a few days before voting. All changes always look strange at first, but you might start to like it after a while.

personally i don't like it because it uses to much space
the look itself isn't bad, but the space could and would be used better...
well, let's wait a bit

and the consensus says: "Under thread title" 3 to 1. XD
but ya prob should wait a few more days

I much prefer it the old way.

Whether it looks better or not doesn't really matter... the overall "appearance" is fine either way. There are two other reasons (in my opinion) why it should be changed back how it was before:
1. The thread title is most important to us scanning that page. The way this is now, that title is scrunched up into a tiny little column and it wraps around once or twice just to make room for the original poster's column. Who cares about the poster's name? The thread title should be more prominent and more readable to skim across.
2. The new arrangement confuses people glancing around quickly. We see a name and first imagine that it is the person who posted last, even though we "know" it's not. It's just confusing like this.
I really don't like it this way.

Certianly under thread title. It's one of the smartest modifications made to vBulletin display from vB2 to vB3. Putting it back looks like a drawback of a nice template tweak. With the thread starter under thread title, you catch 2 pieces of info with one quick look, while you have to move your ees between columns with the thread starter on it's own column way.
Another reason why it's confusing particularly on this board, is that the alt1 & alt2 colors are so close to each other, which makes more difficult for users to differniate columns. Try to use a style other than the default, & it will look less confusing.

Guess this was changed back :). One problem though...
My connection keeps dropping (I've dialed in about 10 times to edit about 5 templates )
Should all be fixed now. :)

lool, we have a good timing editing the same template nearly at the same time

Why not make it user selectable via a custom profile field? http://www.theadminzone.com/forums/images/smilies/bugeye.gif
I agree, that'd be a great idea, and several hacks already allow you to do this. But myself, I prefer the stock method of the thread starter being displayed below the thread title.

Shame - I dont like it being under the thread title - Especially now, as it has an underline under the thread starters name :p
