Hi guys, a long time ago when I had a custom made script created I had this feature, but I'm thinking we could go a step further. :) There's a lot that can be done, I'll provide some ideas, you tell me your feedback, or just make the thing haha. :)
First we'll put something in the user agreement that says something about how users who submit their accounts for deletion may not have their account removed immediately. It would go on to explain the rest.
What would actually happen is we'd give the user the option to remove their account. The user selects remove account, they're asked are you sure, you say yes your account can no longer by viewed, it's as if the user doesn't exist, but it actually still does exist. :)
+ One nice additional feature that can be added at this point is the option to warn about any recurring paypal subscriptions, let them know they must cancel the actual charge through paypal, etc.
User is informed that their account has been marked for deletion but will remain in the system for *6 months (*option for admin to specify time length).
User is informed that their account will no longer by visible but it will remain in the system for up to 6 months. At the end of the 6 month period their account will be completely removed from the system.
The user is also informed that if they login during that 6 month period they may re-animate their suspended account. However perhaps make sure that their usergroup is reset to the normal member level incase of paid memberships like on one of my vbulletin sites.
An additional feature may be if someone tries to register with a suspended email address, perhaps tell the visitor that there is a suspended account and would they like their password sent to the email on file, or something like that.
There are a lot of different things that can be done here, but i think the main part should be created. Any takers? :) I'll help test on one of my vb sites.
