Sports Team Icons v2.3 for vbBux / vbPlaza

About This Addon:
This allows you to purchase icons of your favorite sports team and display them in your users postbit. Currently only MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NASCAR, Premier League, NCAA, MLS, & FIFA World Cup 2006 icons are available for purchase. This hack adds a new category for sports teams. In the new category are the different leagues that are currently available to purchase. By default I have enabled the "Can Change Always" portion so all of your "bandwagon" fans can come back and change their icon depending on who their favorite team is that week. :) To remove teams, they will need to go back into the store where they purchased the icon and select remove to remove the icon, it is up to you to decide if you want to allow a refund. To add extra icons to a certain sport (maybe some old school logos) just name the logo in the same manner as the current ones and upload to that leagues folder. It's that easy thanks to the great coding of CMX.

Pre-requisites:
***You must have vbBux / vbPlaza version 1.5.7 or higher installed in order for this to work!***

Installation & Upgrade Instructions:

Upload all the files in the Upload folder to your website.
Import the .xml file using the Plugin System located in your AdminCP.
Perform the required template changes below.


Required Template Changes:
Postbit & Postbit Legacy

Find:

Below it add:

You can change the category settings for this addon in AdminCP >> vbPlaza Options >> Manage Categories >> Sports Teams. You can change the item settings for this addon in AdminCP >> vbPlaza Options >> Manage Options >> Sports Team section, just pick the league you want to edit. Make sure you set your usergroup permissions for this. If you uninstall vbPlaza / vbBux for any reason you will need to re-install this addon as well.

v1.1 Changes:

Added NASCAR store item - Thanks LadyJo for the icons!
Changed the icon names - Make sure you delete the MLB, NBA, NFL, & NHL folders in the /images directory before uploading this. If you don't you will have every icon available in your store twice!
Updated the postbit/postbit legacy code - Make sure you update the code in your postbit/postbit legacy with the new code above.


v1.2 Changes:

Added Premier League store item - Thanks Gizmo5h1t3 for the help with this!
Changed the icon names (Again) - Make sure you delete the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, & NASCAR folders in the /images directory before uploading this. If you don't you will have every icon available in your store twice!
Added code to strip underscores and hyphens when displaying the team name in the store drop down and when hovering over the icon in the postbit. Now 3-Dale_Earnhardt.gif will show up like 3 - Dale Earnhardt. Follow the example of the names if you have added your own custom icons to certains sports. Only use the underscore (_) and hyphen (-) along with the letters and numbers. Do not use spaces.
Changed postbit code - Make sure you edit your postbit template with the new code. I did this so when future updates come out, you don't have to keep editing your postbits. If you don't like the sport you can simply disable it in vbPlaza Options >> Manage Options. Once there find the sport and go disable it.
Fixed problem with templates not being cached.
I cleaned up the code and a few other things that I can't think of right now!


v2.0 Changes:

Upgraded to work with vbplaza 1.5.0+
Added NCAA store item - Great work with the icons lordofgun!
Changed the postbit/postbit legacy code - I know I said no more template updates, but this one is kinda out of my control. This change should prevent any further updates to templates.

Just an FYI,

I am considering an update to this where you can place larger icons in the signature area and/or keep the ones in the post bit. It will be fairly easy and will only require slight modifications to make it work.

I use the postbit, and what I did was re locate the Teams and Gifts over to the left side under the user title. The postbit top section was getting bit fat with all the stuff on the right side.

The ones in this hack are 25 x 25. Even being that small some of them are hard to recognize...That's why I didn't go 15 x 15 like the ribbons and gifts.

If I do the ones in the signature I will probably make them approx 45 x 45 give or take a few pixels.

I thought about that but wanted to see if it caused any problems. In my testing on 3 different browsers everything was fine. But I don't have linux installed right now so I couldn't test on any other OS.

Maybe I will change everything to the team name. i.e. - Giants instead of New York Giants. I think most people will know that if you are buying something from the NFL that the Giants are from New York and not from San Francisco like the MLB team.

Look for it in a future update, hopefully with some new sports.

No, you don't have to remove anything. Just upload the files, import the product .xml file and then make the necessary change to your postbit/postbit legacy template.

All of the purchases from v1.0 won't show up with v1.1 but if you left the can change always and have version 1.2.1 of eStore installed, they can go back in the store and repurchase the team they want and it won't charge them anything and will restore the icon to their postbit.

With the college one, I might suggest sectioning them out.. Having a drop down menu with that many options could get messy

Anything anybody wants to add to this sports wise I am definitely open to it. If people don't like it they can simply disable the option. Or I can simply start making each sport a seperate addon to this one. Maybe even add some hooks to make things easier. This hack is still young and has alot of possibilities.

The only problem I have is collecting and editing the icons as needed. If you have a sport, email me the icons (pm me when you have them and I will send you my email address). If you have a different icon pack that you like and want to share (for example the NFL), make them 25 x 25 and post them in a thread and I will link to them in the release post with a brief description. I say this because some people like the team icons on yahoo sports. If somebody takes them and makes them smaller and posts them, I will do whats mentioned above.

hey cam, anyway in a future version we could have the ability to purchase more than one team per catergory. Like say both the Mariners and the Diamondbacks... or two hockey teams. My members would like to have it where they can have more than one, not where it replaces the one they already have..

This shouldn't be a problem as the sports and ribbons use completely independant tables and columns from estore. If they are disappearing then something really weird is happening.

Nope - could this problem be on my end? I ask because I didn't see anyone else mentioning it.

I'm not using any page compression at all. And the stats program that showed this was "Microstats - load times, server loads, queries, uncached templates " which also showed a problem in the vbaracde (which turned out to be valid).

I also have the uncached templates issue.

It's not hellcat's plugin. It's just microstats, which does nothing but show you page load, server load, and uncached templates.

I'm also not using any template compression or anything similar.

Found and fixed in the next version. Thanks! I am trying to get the premier league in the next release and that is currently what's holding it up.

Everything should continue to work without any problems until it is released though so don't stress anything.

It looks like you don't have version 1.2.0 of estore installed. I believe it's that version or version 1.2.1 that has the flood check installed. Make sure you are using the latest version and let me know if that clears it up.

I would be very willing to do this, but the problem will be finding that many icons. If anybody can find all the div 1 schools with transparent backgrounds, I can batch resize everything easily.

It's also alot of renaming, but v1.2 is going to have new icon names and a new way to display them. I hope people don't get too mad about it, their users will have to go repurchase the icon to get the actual icon back. This should be the last change to them though and will actually show the city and team name while staying compliant (I hope).

you should just code it as ncaa icons.....or College icons with a couple of gifs

then let everyone add their own

I mean once you add the gif it shows up in the store....and you will never satisfy everyone as far as which icons to add

Now updating in the future will be much easier for all of us. After v1.2 there shouldn't be anymore postbit edits (I hope) or deleting of the league images.

Mine is showing the images as linking to (example) cincinati reds but the file name is cincinati_reds... so they are broken. when I renames it to cincinnati reds with a space it worked

I am not following on your first example.

I renamed the mlb image...that's what I get for working on this at 2:30 AM. ;) At least I spelled it right with the Bengals.

Well.. The images are broken for me.. So I check the location.. It is like nfl/cincinnati%20bengals.jpg....

However, the file is named nfl/cincinnati_bengals.jpg

I renamed the image to cincinnati bengals.jpg and THEN it works fine.. Any idea why or is this just a mess up on your part? Maybe its my system but that is what I am gettin

The problem with spaces is your linux users (or almost any user that isn't on windows) will have problems. Make sure the icons are set to "Can Change Always" in AdminCP >> eStore Options >> Manage Options. Go into each sport and make sure they are set to can change always. It is set to this by default, so if you haven't changed the settings then you should be ok to move on to the next step.

Then instruct your users to back and repurchase their icon for free to fix it. If you renamed files to include spaces, change it back or you may run into problems in the future.

If it would be easier I can add code to completely erase the teams that have been purchased. But then your users would have to purchase them again.

I didn't add it to this because as long as you have it set to can change always, then they can go change it for free if they have purchased it once....even if the names don't match up and only have a red x showing...just go back to the store and purchase your team agian. :)

It's in the users table. Each sport has it's own column...estore_mlb, estore_nba, estore_nfl, ... you get the picture.

I did this intentionally. As pointed out earlier in the thread have a file named Chicago Bulls.gif isn't web compliant. So I renamed it to Chicago_Bulls.gif. Then I added code to find _ and replace it with a space. When you see this type of thing, that is what I was referring to when I say you will need to go back into the store and repurchase your icon. If you left it set to "Can Change Always" then it shouldn't charge your users to go back and make these changes. Otherwise you will need to go through your database and add an _ to all names where there is a space for the teams and the nascar names would need even more work.

Going back and purchasing them again will be the easiest way to fix it. Try it and let me know how it works out for you.

Yes.. The reason is they must have the money in hand that it WOULD cost.. It wont charge them again.. But you must have that amount at least.. I just came to report it.. :)

Sorry guys....I am getting close, but I had to give up at 2:30 last night so I could get some sleep...I had to wake up at 7:00 this morning.

The good news is, it's almost done. One big hold up was I had to install vbplaza 1.5 on my site before I started upgrading the sports icons. I don't want to release it until I have tested it on my own site.

OK guys...I just released the new update. I wasn't able to test every different scenario on the install/upgrade, so hopefully it works fine for all of you.

It did upgrade just fine on my board. I had version sports icons v1.2 installed and the upgrade went flawlessly. Once you have upgraded, delete the old sports icons for estore in the manage products section of the admincp.

So none of your prior purchases exist anymore? It must have been because it was disabled. I will double check the code just in case.

It then upgrades accordingly depending on the version you have installed.

It looks like it worked ok on your site. If your icons are still showing up then all is well. You can check your database to verify if it worked. Check your user table, and look and see if the columns were changed from estore_mlb, estore_nba, etc.. to mlb_icon, nba_icon, etc...

I uninstalled this and then reinstalled it on the new VBux setup and the Items are not available in IE for me plus if I load Firefox, only the NCAA logos are available. All are stocked and have the proper permissions for buying.

Uninstalling won't erase that code because when you uninstall it looks for the code in estoreitems. I wrote the xml file to either install fresh, meaning you never had the old one installed, or to upgrade an existing installation.

If you uninstalled first then all of your data is gone anyways, just uninstall and reinstall and it should fix everything for you. Your members icons will be gone, but the "Can Change Always" flags will still be set so they can go back and repurchase without having to pay again.

***EDIT***I updated the install file, I didn't post it as a version change because the changes I made won't help anyone who has tried to install this already. In your case rinkrat, uninstall and reinstall and it should work. Going forward, even if people uninstall the sports after upgrading vbbux to 1.5, this should now install properly.

There are some vbplaza files as well as images. Make sure you don't upload the "Upload" folder itself though, just the contents inside of it which should be an images & vbplaza folder, they need to go to your forum root.

its designed to only have one of each league... But the good news is that you can set it so you can switch for free...

I have been crazy busy at work and have been out of town more than at home. It will continue to be like this until at least the end of May. Over the next 4 weeks, I will be home for one of them is all, so time to work on this is virtually non-existant.

I can work on adding them to the memberinfo area, but again, it probably won't happen for awhile. I can look into a possible option of letting you select if you want more than one team for each sport. I am not saying it will happen as I actually have no interest in making it this way, but I will at least look into it and possibly add it to a future update. (just don't hold your breath for it to happen ;) )

As far as adding more sports, if you get me the icons, it is easy to add them now. I would love to add MLS but haven't had time to look for icons. If you have some, let me know and I will get them in there. Just read the first couple pages of this thread for the icon requirements.

You can add them yourself by following the code examples already in place. Or you can email them to me and I will add them. It's not to difficult to add them myself as I will be adding MLS soccer soon.

I get the same problem as FFF, since upgrading to the latest EBux/Estore, the sports team category/items don't show in the Vbux category/item area.
Reinstalling/removing/installing has no effect
Reuploaded all the files, overwrote the existing ones, no change.

it has something to do with the fact in the new vbplaza install the db table names have changed and now the db table names in the sports icon addon do not match up anymore. is there anyone who can fix this problem or at least give permission for someone else to fix it I would gladly give it a go if permission were granted but do not want to step on any toes here.

I have installed the sports icons addon but nothing is showing up in my admin area for them.Any ideas what would cause this and if you need and details just let me know.

Hi guys...sorry for the lack of supporting this lately. Summer time is an extremely busy time of year for me. I am out of town on business for weeks at a time and when I return, my family takes priority over anything else.

That being said, I am starting to see things slow down with work, I need to install 3.6 on my site. When that is done I will be able to see what I need to do to update the sports addon. Give me a week or so, I will work my fastest to try and get this updated.

I updated and released a version that works with vbPlaza 1.5.7 and higher the other day. Install the xml file in the zip I releaesd and all should work (It worked on my board). There is no need to edit the xml file, just download and install.

When you re-install the product xml file, are you selecting "Allow Overwrite"?

It's not supposed to show up in the dropdown menu or in the settings. Go to the store and check your categories, you should now have a sports category. I have tested this and it works fine on my site.

Check your site and see if it shows up there. If not pm me the url to your site and I will go take a peek and try to figure out whats going on.

When I am in the vbplaza main, and click Sports Team Icons

Then it takes me to MLB, MLS, NFL and so on. If I click on any of those I get the following error

i was interested in having something like this for my web site, however, i do not want to install vbbux nor vbplaza (i even searched and found out they were not being offered on here anymore). could someone please recommend a 'sports icon' hack i could install that doesn't require other hacks to be installed for it to work?

also, one where the icons work on a dark as well as a light background?

I have this installed in my vbulletin v3.7.2 system along with vbPlaza v1.6.0. I have all the images and files uploaded and have turned on the category and items in the ACP. I even purchased an item in the vbPlaza.

The problem is that it is not showing up in the postbit? I looked and saw that the postbit additions were there.
